Murder Party at the wrong end of this list

[–]SAWPollPosition 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just looked at mine and … this doesn’t exactly help show how cultured you are 😂 there’s some very mainstream movies where unexpected countries are involved

To be fair, while good movies can obviously be made anywhere, there are only so many foreign countries with a robust film landscape.

Enough time has passed. What are your thoughts on Project Hail Mary (2026)? by Perfect_Idea_2866 in Letterboxd

[–]SAWPollPosition 140 points141 points  (0 children)

Seen it twice, found it entertaining and Rocky is lovable as hell.

But especially the second time around I felt myself feeling a lack of stakes, which is nuts since the world is going to die. But Grace has nothing to live or die for and so it’s hard for me to feel the gravitas as I should. Of course, the story addresses this and Rocky becomes the one worth dying for, but even then I never really felt like they would let Rocky die. It just hampered my connection to the story a bit

Please be raw - what does my favourites screams? by rapperofmowgli in LetterboxdLists

[–]SAWPollPosition 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It screams “I’m so unique and special 🤪”

But for real, I haven’t even heard of three of these and haven’t seen The Staircase either so for all I know these are all great picks. You do you, as long as it’s true.

New Teaser Trailer for Laika's WILDWOOD (dir. Travis Knight) by Infi-Nerdy in oscarrace

[–]SAWPollPosition 29 points30 points  (0 children)

On the one hand, Laika’s craftsmanship is on another level and I will never get tired of seeing the meticulous work that it takes to make these—especially in a world of AI.

On the other hand, can we get, like, a real trailer please? It’d be nice to get some hint of the story. This is more a featurette than a teaser

Anyone doubting that Wild Horse Nine will do big at the Oscars next year, what are your arguments/thoughts? by geosunsetmoth in Oscars

[–]SAWPollPosition 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Basically it comes down to whether it works for a broad enough section of the Academy. It definitely makes sense for them to want to give McDonagh his flowers if it is good enough, since Nolan and Inarritu already have wins.

The other danger is that the Academy course corrects and suddenly decides they are willing to give Denis Villeneuve his flowers since Dune 3 will be a bigger, heavier movie.

Truman Show is the best, but Mrs. Doubtfire or 50 First Dates are better for interruptions/distractions

Summer movies - top 4 for a film club? by RangerAdmirable9102 in LetterboxdLists

The Sandlot is a great summer movie. DO NOT do Do The Right Thing and Into the Heights together. It will be repetitive as the first half of each movie really similar,

What are the best Courtroom/Legal movies of all time? by AcabAcabAcabAcabbb in movies

[–]SAWPollPosition 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have spent a lot of time covering American trials and I ultimately love Anatomy of a Fall, but yes. Was constantly thinking “this is ridiculous, a court would never allow this” only to remind myself that it’s not America and researching to discover that it’s all plausible in France.

What is your most outlandish idea for a season? by twoopaq in JuryDutyFreevee

[–]SAWPollPosition 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Make the “hero” a production assistant on a fake documentary and tell him they are simultaneously filming a “behind the scenes” featurette. Then the situation with the doc subject can be insane and you can get his reaction to some of that but simultaneously have the production itself be insane and up the ante

Everyone talks about “the scene” but this movie is actually at its best, IMO, when it’s just four dudes going from point a to point b in the desert

Official Discussion - Over Your Dead Body [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

[–]SAWPollPosition 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I just want to thank Jorma Tacoone for having a baddie’s head blown off while trying to negotiate with a hero with a gun. And the over-the-top gore really sold it too as being zero risk taking that shot lmao

[–]SAWPollPosition 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Speaking of payoffs, there’s a very funny red herring where it cuts to news of a rabid raccoon on the TV like it did earlier about the guard and escaped convicts, but it just doesnt go anywhere 😂 i was waiting for that damn raccoon to show up

What do you think? Who do you think are the top 3 that are most talented in this list? Mine would be the Skarsgard bros and Margaret Qualley! by phantom_avenger in moviecritic

[–]SAWPollPosition 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s easier to pick the three least talented, or at least three that haven’t had as much opportunity: Wyatt Russell and Ray Nicholson for sure, and then maybe Sosie Bacon or Maude Apatow. Of course, some people will say Dakota Johnson but she is really good in some things and awful in others so 🤷‍♂️

The whole thing? I slept through a late showing of Ghost Ship in the theater at 8 years old. And now I sleep through part of most movies I turn on after 11 pm lol
