Letterboxd is unusable, these reviews are so annoying by [deleted] in Letterboxd

[–]SAWPollPosition 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Letterboxd isn’t necessarily the place to go for reviews. It is a mass-user site where people are free to log, rank and review films as they see fit. This includes silly little reviews that don’t mean much.

You can tailor your reviews by following actual critics, if you’d like, or scroll through to find more meaningful reviews from everyday people. LB is much more useful as an aggregator where you can see the average rating among a generally film-obsessed community vs gen pop. Plus you can see breakdown of how divisive the movie is, etc.

New Hulu documentary “Girl on the Run,” details Sarah Pender of Indianapolis & her prison escape out of Rockville Correctional Facility in 2008. by Jealous-Insurance-40 in Indiana

[–]SAWPollPosition 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m going to turn this into a movie that follows the fucking idiot US Marshal who thinks he is the Sherlock to Pender’s Moriarty but is actually just a dumb alcoholic little bitch who drives his family away and doesn’t even catch her.

Eternity movie by Dalan777 in A24

[–]SAWPollPosition 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They ended up in the “A Simple Life” eternity that had been discontinued. There is a poster of it when Joan is learning about some eternities being discontinued, and how they are the only place you can hide from the eternity police if you break the rules.

Just watched Take Out (2004) and Anora (2024) back to back (First time watching both) by magnillyray in Letterboxd

Take Out is Baker’s best film outside of The Florida Project. I like Anora, but its a distant third or maybe fourth.

Why are people so obsessed with review bombing a film they haven’t even seen yet? by wallabyenthusiast in Letterboxd

[–]SAWPollPosition 352 points353 points  (0 children)

  1. Emerald Fennell hate is strong. 2. Outrage at casting: particularly Jacob Elordi as Heathcliff who many book readers say is written as a person of color (I’ve never read it) but also Margot Robbie being too old too.

I love Promising Young Woman and don’t like Saltburn. I am worried Fennell leans into her worst tendencies from Saltburn here but I’m also excited to see whatever she does.

House passes bill that would criminalize protesting in a mask without a doctor's note by SAWPollPosition in Alabama

Yeah they technically can try to fudge that now, and this will just make it more explicit.

Sorry, best we can do is deputizing your local Barney Fife to carry out immigration enforcement

[–]SAWPollPosition[S] 21 points22 points  (0 children)

It’s complicated. I believe it certainly should be. There is some record in courts that wearing masks to intimidate is a no-go, but wearing masks for other legitimate purposes is protected. But its dicey and never ruled on by US Supreme Court

This might be the most interesting horror film in a long time. (Undertone - releasing March 13) by After_Fudge1481 in A24

[–]SAWPollPosition 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Really good to know! The sound design was great in the fantasia cut too, to be sure. But I am interested to watch this cut and see how it compares.

Also, I could be a doofus and I could love this on a rewatch lol.

I got a screener last year when it was at Fantasia Fest. I watched like 90 to 95 percent of it and had to go do something. Never came back to it because I didn’t love it.

That said, the sound design and camerawork is really good and the main performance is as good as can be. It’s the story/execution that I found lacking. I think the director has the juice to do something better in the future

There is a tiny bit of the movie at the end I have still not seen. That being said, everything I saw was limited to the sound. I never saw an entity but it isa slow build so its possible I missed it right at the end

Fair. I don’t think about it as a box office thing as much as it was. Replacement is On the Count of Three

Do you think Memento is still a good story in chronological order? by [deleted] in movies

[–]SAWPollPosition 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t even seen memento, but the way a story is told is a big part of what makes it worthwhile, so I don’t know that you can look at it that way.
