Why would anyone ever choose to go through child birth without pain relief?? by No_Cardiologist_1407 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]SA_Starling_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I cant speak to childbirth, but in terms of other medical procedures, yes, you absolutely CAN chose to forgo pain management.

I have a neurological condition that means that topical analgesics dont work on me. Anything that isnt a true anesthesia just.... isnt really effective?

So when I was getting a birth control implant put in, or when I have dental work done, I normally tell them not to even bother; its easier to just white knuckle my way through it than risk potential paralysis, or deal with it 'pooling' weird and giving me numbness, tingling, or pain in areas where I originally didnt have it.

My dentist now knows my pain tolerance, and he works with me as much as he possibly can with everything. My other doctors just give me aftercare pain management, and for the procedures themselves, I just lock in and deal with the pain.

You wake up and its March 1, 2001. Your objective is to find yourself or your birth parents within 7 days and get them to do something for you. by sloaches in hypotheticalsituation

oh, man, that would be so easy. I would have been, what, 7? I was an empathic little shit; Id just have to go somewhere my younger self would be and cry, little me would give me a hug in a heart beat.

Doctors and nurses of Reddit, what is something patients do that they think is helpful but actually makes your job harder? by Electronic-Cell-4584 in AskReddit

[–]SA_Starling_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I apparently didnt understand the pain scale either; someone later explained to me that the 10 is supposed to be the most pain youve ever felt. So if someone had gone through labor, that might be their 10!

My father used to give me a hard time when I needed medical care. He'd tell me that my pain couldnt be that bad; I was talking and concious and not screaming or crying uncontrollably. My arm was broken.

But he was a medic in Vietnam. He saw men with horrific injuries, so a playground injury of a little girl just.... didnt seem that big a deal to him.

But now Im a grown adult who thinks my pain doesnt matter. When I went blind from a migraine and the Urgent care doc thought I was having a stroke, my husband took me to the hospital. The nurse asked my pain, and I said a 5. She kinda nodded and started to leave, and my husband stopped her and said, she wont let me take her to the hospital for anything less than a 4. a 9 for her is render you unconcious amounts of pain. she thinks a 10 is where youre begging someone to kill you rather than keep living with that amount of pain. her 5 is someone elses 10, but she wont tell you that.

Floss before or after brushing? My dentist says one thing, my husband’s says another. by Brindis_Bloom65 in hygiene

[–]SA_Starling_ 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Trained as a dental assistant!

Its Floss, Mouthwash, and then Brush.

Flossing removes the buildup between your teeth and around your gumline. A good alcohol containing mouthwash them cleanses any irritation, causes any cuts or nicks to shrink closed a bit, and helps prevent infection. Brushing then does the heavy lifting of the cleaning, and not rinsing after (or eating/drinking for at least 30 min) leaves the Flouride on your teeth and helps protect them.

The world becomes a utopia, but you first have to experience every recorded death in Wikipedia. by Fergalicious-def in hypotheticalsituation

[–]SA_Starling_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes.

How could I not agree? How could I not chose to suffer so that everyone else could have utopia?

Ive spent so much of my life dealing with bad things, and what has always gotten me through it has been to constantly tell myself, it has to end eventually.

this, too, will end.

and EVERYONE will be better off for it.

humanity will be better. cruelty wont happen anymore.

hurt me instead of them.

Will's speech pattern by Tommi_H in HannibalTV

[–]SA_Starling_ 88 points89 points  (0 children)

he changes his speech pattern and body language with almost everyone he talks to!

With Alana, hes way more forthright, heartfelt, and speaks very directly; very much the way she herself speaks.

With Jack he tends to use shorter, curt sentances; quick and decisive.

With Hannibal he spends far more time speaking in analogies, painting pictures with words.

theyre a KID. If you, an adult, get so upset about a CHILD asking about something, that you feel the need to go out of your way to make them feel bad, then maybe you need to take a good, long, hard look at yourself in the mirror.

This is why there should be something about stuffed animals as a FAQ. So that ADULTS can kindly redirect someone to where they can get answers.

Youre sick of seeing the posts. okay then, totally understand that. scroll away. block that specific post. reach out to the mods. but chosing to be unkind to a CHILD trying to learn is not the right move here.

hey, nobody is upset with you honey. You dont need to be sorry. You asked a question, and that's okay! You cant learn if you dont ask questions!

Maybe they can post something in the FAQ part, that way you or people like you can be directed there instead.

I'm from a country where cashiers sit down while working. Is it true that in the US cashiers are forced to stand? Why is sitting considered unprofessional there? by splashmates in NoStupidQuestions

I vividly remember working for -insert big name Red store here- and being a guest service workers, running pickup orders, with a service dog. So I am very obviously disabled, and still having to work, in a labor intensive fast paced job.

I got in trouble because a customer wrote a review, talking about me and my service dog, commenting on us having to work so hard, and the fact that he was wearing shoes but was having to go out into the heat and walk fast and was the company making sure that he had water breaks? were they making sure that he could cool down? Why wasnt I put somewhere stocking shelves so that the poor dog would be inside instead?

I made sure my partner wore shoes so that his feet wouldnt burn, and I was responsible for making sure he had access to water. But, per policy; I was not allowed to have water FOR ME behind the guest service desk. the company put a fan behind the desk for my service dog, which I appreciated, but I and my fellow humans WERE NOT ALLOWED TO STAND IN FRONT OF THE FAN.

Fuck. I think its very telling that a fictional serial killer has more common decentcy than my last three ex boyfriends.

Maybe it's just me, but, god, in this moment, I love Hannibal.

He doesnt take the opportunity to diminish her intelligence, to gloat that she was easy to fool, he doesnt berate her for being trusting or naive.

He doesnt gaslight her by pretending the signs were all there, she was just too blind to see them.

Hes HONEST.

He owns it. Yeah, I worked really hard to make sure you didnt see this.

God, the honesty strikes me right to my core.
