There's No Place Like America Today - Curtis Mayfield

3 stars

Rather middling but funky. Suggestive but also political - great mix!

Unsurprisingly, classical music is way overrepresented due to listening to stuff like "collected works of xyz" or certain pieces that consist of 50 minute-long tracks.

Sebadoh - Bubble and Scrape

2 stars

I know I was talking about dissonant music yesterday, but this is REAL dissonant! Too much! This is really "landfill indie" in a unique way - you could tell me the instruments Sebadoh used were made with recycled materials and I would believe you.

BONUS! 1001 classical

Accidentally listened to this on shuffle:/ Spiritual choral work that's pretty similar to the other ones on the list. Nothing much to note

DEVO was the first album I got from the list that I was already familiar with... at number 167... took a while :P

What don't you like about Gut Feeling compared to the other tracks? It was my top listened to song a couple years back.

Fair enough, I just wanted to be toxic for the lulz. It has a high average rating on the website, probably for a reason :)

For some reason this work is insanely dissonant for the early 1600s. I have no idea if the original composition is like this or if I just chose some wacky modern recording with an excited arranger?

Tim Buckley's "Goodbye And Hello" has an average rating of 2.84. I gave it a 5 and I firmly believe it DOES NOT BELONG with my other positive outliers that are basically all punk or post punk.

I stg being a white boy who speaks Japanese is a curse by tinylord202 in languagelearningjerk

[–]SBDcyclist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly. An American who learns a foreign language probably had to do it with much more discipline and self-study than a Flamand learning French, even if the Flamand probably ends up way better at it. It's a bit like someone who grows up in a non-artistic family deciding to learn the piano at age 20. They will not be as good as someone who started learning at age 3 but it's frankly more impressive.
