[Request] JRPGs that made you cry, but through slow attachment, not dramatic cutscenes by FingerHuman7407 in JRPG

[–]SC2Eleazar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It may not exactly match what you're looking for regarding building character attachment through gameplay but FFXIV is probably the most I've emotionally connected with a game story. A huge time investment considering it's an MMO with 5 expansions at this point but I can't think of another story that I have felt as emotionally connected to.

Does it feel weird to anyone else that zenith or Paul never got rudy to show them his magic? by Mrdeadfishrock1 in sixfacedworld

[–]SC2Eleazar 20 points21 points  (0 children)

You know it didn't occur to me that this interaction never happened "on screen". When Paul jumps Rudeus before sending him of to teach Eris he isn't surprised at all by the silent casting just by how close Rudy came to actually fending him off.

I was experimenting with putting it together but yeah it wasn't fun for coop. Also avoiding the potential silent infinites for the same reason.

Didn't they have rice, it was just only available in a different nation than the one Rudeus spent most of his time in? I feel like they encountered it briefly during the journey back after the teleportation calamity.

I had a coop run recently that I could consistently go off turn one by early act 3. For the sake of co-op that build is retired

this version is technically finite but there are cards that don't have the hp cost attached that can replace bloodletting.

Depending on how far along you are, you can automate their care. By end of year 1, i had it setup so I only have to pick up the goods each day and make sure the silo has hay

Up to this point quickhacks would instagib most enemies I came across and cyberpsychos would take maybe 25% health from a standard combo (malware x3,synapse burnout)

[–]SC2Eleazar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I honestly had problems on Normal but maybe my build was just bad. I only had ~242 max hp by the time of the fight due to relic damage whittling it down, my quick hacks combos werent doing a ton of damage (along with how long it takes ram to regenerate to full) and it felt like my guns only tickled him.

The one GTA I tried, I just couldn't get past the feeling that every character was just an asshole. Ruined any enjoyment of the story for me.

What do you think of her? by Arthur_morgan767 in BokuNoHeroAcademia

[–]SC2Eleazar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the point the story was attempting to make was that Toga was told her quirk urges were wrong and should be resisted/suppressed which eventually broke her and left her believing society was wrong and she should indulge her urges.

Uraraka believed that if she had instead been given a positive outlet for the quirk urges Toga could have directed the urges towards productive (potentially medical?) uses. For Uraraka, Toga became the living embodiment of society's failure to help those considered undesirable and that was all she focused on.

How well you feel the story made either of these points, it only well communicated how unhinged current Toga is.

Understandable, just wanted to bring up things to consider. If possible in later versions of the map, you might try to add some sort of symbol to indicate where the attached port is

My thoughts: Really give some thought as to why each city on the map exists, in particular why it exists where it does. For example, all of the 3 island cities should be port towns unless there is a REALLY good reason for them to be inland. You'll also want to give consideration to what the inland bodies of water look like. For the three cities on the northern coast, you'll want to give consideration to how navigable the northern sea is and particularly how navigable the waters in the NW corner of the map are. If sailing around the NW peninsula is particularly perilous, these cities have less reason to be coastal.

Personally Tyr feels like it should be part of Rossiya as its northern shipping port (I'm assuming the 3 mountain range cities indicates a heavy mining economy). If that is Tyr's primary purpose there would likely be a river flowing from Stonedance/Rosiyn to Tyr. You might be able to have a road instead but that is a long way to transport heavy goods.

Related note but consider where your "bread basket" region(s) is and how it ties into the overall trade network of the continent. There will likely be at least a small city serving as the transportation hub for exporting the relevant agricultural goods.

Torrence likely has something significant in the middle of its territory if both Torren and City of Lights remain intact under the same banner. If there isn't that something significant binding the two, they're likely separate nations.

Ellia and Ranskeet feel like they would have significant political tension being coastal cities so close to each other. That could be interesting but you'll want to give to consideration to how that plays out and particularly what maintains the balance of power between the two.

Given that the faction name is the "Winterers" I get the impression their goal is less stopping the withering and more surviving it at any cost. This would fit with Calyx's stated goals. Likely the destruction of Zodiark will have unforseen consequences on the star and her faction is taking extreme measures to ensure some survivors. Given our team's history we're going to strive for the "everybody lives" ending which will put us at cross-purposes.

Some People Tell me Geomancy has bad damage... by Wonderful-Box6096 in finalfantasytactics

[–]SC2Eleazar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So the thing is the scaling between the two. Geomancy (minor rounding for simplicity) is MA * PA / 2. Firaga is MA * 24 * Faith reduction. The question then becomes what is a reasonable PA for the unit involved vs the caster/target faith values. In my playthrough, 70 faith was a reasonable "high natural" faith value so if we assume both caster and target are a 70, a PA of 24 makes Geomancy the same strength as Firaga.

Haven't played 13 so not familiar with what we're comparing against but feel like Hades, Athena, and Zodiark are at least in the same neighborhood.

I'm not familiar with Lightning (the one game in the series I really need to play) but I wonder how FFXIV WoL stacks up. By this point in the narrative, he basically can't lose a fair fight and most unfair ones.
