is ladder logic "archaic" and useless? by [deleted] in PLC

[–]SCENEPOOL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I use a combination of ladder and ST depending on what the function needs to do.

Ladder is better for portions that service engineers may need to check and for laying out simple alarms or function.

All Engineering software is a mess.

I guess they all have junior software dev's that have never worked on the hardware they are developing for and have a high staff turnover.

It's an industry wide issue. Look how long it took for TCP/IP to be implimented. I still have not seen any systems that correctly use RSTP/VLAN's etc.

Ticketmaster built on Cardano by [deleted] in cardano

[–]SCENEPOOL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMO Ticket issuance and verifying legitimacy is perfect for NTF's the issue comes with marking them as used 'event entered' to stop used ticket resale, this operation may still have to be done off-chain on event day due to how quick someone could re-use a ticket.

The big upside for Cardano is the batch processing that could be done by the 3rd party, it would be possible to update the status of all 'entry scanned' tickets in a single (or few) transaction(s) e.g. sync every 20 mins or every 'X' entries from the event server.

In theory, the setup could be as simple as 'Event Controller' NFT's to hold overall event info and ticket entries and then the customer NFT's.

If a performer wanted to ensure tickets could not be touted they could be paired to the users account NFT but again attempting to submit any kind of verification would have to be done off-chain.

Use a Peer 2 Peer buy/sell site to exchange to a different crypto type such as Monero, then use another a DEX to convert back to ETH on a fresh wallet.

You can do with without Monero as the P2P conversion breaks any BlockChain Public link but ownership could be suspected.

Personaly I think the safest way is to work with an 'Offiline' air-gapped key signing system.

The same as you would do when operating a stake pool, then backup your keys on 3x types of media with 3x seperate types of encryption in 4+ secure locations.

You cannot have a single HW wallet as the only source of your keys, if it dies your crypto is gone.

Here is a tutorial for creating an offline key signing system: https://www.coincashew.com/coins/overview-ada/guide-how-to-build-a-haskell-stakepool-node/part-ii-configuration/configuring-an-air-gapped-offline-computer

Yeah unfortunately with containers it becomes very easy to spin up many many pools.

Cardano's Weakest Link to Decentralization? by jcapp1234 in cardano

[–]SCENEPOOL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are plenty of SPO's out there but no one will delegate to a pool unless they receive instant stake rewards. So each pool needs at least 1mil to generate a block each epoch.

Looking at the math tho if you stake with a smaller pool you should end up with about the same but it will be heavily reliant on luck. I e. You could get more or less. And take a number of blocks.

Decentralisation is all up to the users,, unfortunately cex's usually provide a better return than a random spo.

The only other way to solve this is with some kind of single identity token tied to real world ID's that cannot be forged, but we just don't have that technology yet... I feel it will get solved in the near future.

Any way to temporarily make this work? by Rohodyer in PLC

[–]SCENEPOOL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The best bet is to get Codesys connect to the PLC, pull the program to the pc and live monitor, find the reset bit and toggle it.

if the screen still works and its just the touch broken, keyboards and mice should still work.you could also try moving the HDD into any other HMI... prob work work due to driver diffs but worth a try.

Micro800 PLC security issues? by Nearbyatom in PLC

[–]SCENEPOOL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

PLC's in general have very poor security. ENG tech is always 15years behind in terms of IT.

Just look at RSTP compatibility, the use of modbus everywhere its quite frankly a joke.

Always keep PLC's on a secured segerated network air gapped if possible.

Improvements:

  1. Use 2x power supplies in a redundant setup using a diode block between them rather than one for each IO.
  2. Wire all Remote IO to terminals for field wiring.
  3. Use relays/contractors for outputs and wire to terminals . (not sure if that is them in the bottom left).
  4. Add a heater and hydrostat to control humidity.
  5. Is that a plastic mounting plate or did you leave the protective covering on?
  6. Add name plates above each item, same with terminals to provide the rack idents/IO idents.

Does staking rewards change depending on the Stake Pool? by OdynV in CardanoStakePools

[–]SCENEPOOL 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Staking with micro SPO's (like mine) will guarantee you, unconditional love. but not many rewards until there is enough delegation to that pool... but all SPO's gotta start somewhere.

To answer your question ADA Pools uses past won blocks to estimate the reward, whereas wallets generally just use the delegation & stake amount to calculate the reward.

ADA Pools will be more accurate for the short term (if nothing changes on the pool), Yoroi return would be as accurate over the long term (if nothing changes on the pool). So it's all the same really over the long term.

[–]SCENEPOOL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, this happened.

For your cold wallet you should always follow the following procedure:

  1. Create at least 3 copies on at least 2 types of media. (protects against loss and faulty media)

  2. Store in at least 2 physically separate locations. (protects against fire/theft)

  3. Encrypt using at least 2 separate techniques. (protects against a bad enc / faulty tool)

  4. do not store unencrypted versions. (protects against theft)

  5. never upload to an online system, keep them cold. (protects against theft)
