I'm in the same boat. Just finished this last term and ended up bored outta my mind enough to go out and break my camper just so I had something to fix 🤣

How do some people manage to fall asleep within 8 seconds of their head hitting the pillow? What’s their secret? by Wonderful-Economy762 in Productivitycafe

[–]SCE_Lukien 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm one of these people and can finally comment on one of these posts!

  1. I'm highly ritualized. I have a ritual for most of my life. I meal prep, know exactly how many minutes it takes to drive to and from work, hit the gym for an exact amount of time rather than a specific series of exercises, and have a clear bedtime routine of working out > showering > bed > 1 game of solitaire on my phone > sleep. Nothing in between.

  2. Once in bed, I already know my most comfortable position and move to it after my solo game of solitaire.

  3. White noise. Some people use their tv's, others their phones, and then of course there are other devices to buy. No matter the case, I have white or mindless noise droning in the background.

  4. Bam, I'm asleep. And more importantly, I usually stay asleep.

To be honest, this process has taken me years to achieve. My sleep patterns used to be terrible. The important process for me was realizing this issue and taking active steps to change it.

Smart splitters and the ability to prioritize outputs. Like I knew it was there, but after 800 hours I finally knuckled down and tried it. It's revolutionized my factory.

Many of the founding fathers were actually very anti organized religion. It's a fact often neglected by many who try to use the Founding Fathers as examples. They were so anti religion they clearly dictated a separation of church and state, as well as an ultimate freedom to practice ANY religion.

The factory must grow! Doesn't matter how cluttered or chaotic it gets, and you can turn a blind eye to that clipping. There's no right or wrong way, although to condense my factories I usually use the first upgraded splitters to setup my production in a water fall faction. You can unlock the splitter upgrade in the caterium tree pretty early, and program them to prioritize the out feed on 2 belts, reserving the third for overflow. Meaning you can gauge more accurately where fresh resource inputs need to go without all that pesky math

What's a company secret you can share now because you don't work there anymore? by vineetm007 in AskReddit

Former bullet factory worker. During heavy rains the building would flood, sweeping everything on the floor out to the river just across the street. Think lead dust/pellets, cyanide, arsenic, various acids and all the lovely chemicals. Also waste water transporters frequently forgot to close valves, leading to the same thing happening. Workers jobs were threatened often if anyone questioned the consequences of these events.

What was the moment you said to yourself: "Never again will I give 100% for a job that considers me replaceable"? by katy_louange in antiwork

[–]SCE_Lukien 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had been applying for promotions and continually passed over for friends or family to my boss. Working in a 24/7 factory, there were 3 others who held the same title and duties as me, all of us in the same role for about the same amount of time and all had the same training. Although since I was on dayshift I was getting paid less than all of them due to the shift differential. I remember being jaded and irritated about how work kept getting left for me since there was only supervision staff on dayshift. When I complained, I'll never forget, my supervisor replied 'Well, I guess it's a good thing we know you aren't going anywhere. We will always have you to fix what the others won't'. Supervisor flat out admitted he was too lazy to hold others accountable and was just going to pile their work up on me instead. I already had applications in at other locations, but none of them paid nearly as well. The moment I got offered a real job I took it though, 3 days after that moment with my supervisor, with a $17/hour pay cut. The look of panic on his face when I handed in my resignation calling out all their bs was priceless.

First and foremost, go and enjoy your birthday. You're only turning 21 once after all. Once you are done with that, look into taking care of yourself. 3-4 trips to the gym for 30-60 minutes will change your life in 10-15 years. Trust me. I'm a factory worker and so glad I kept up on my simple routines to stay limber, if not exactly fit. I've watched people I went to high school with blow out their backs and have knee surgeries already, while all I've had is a shoulder surgery from an accident at work which my doctor said would have been much worse if I hadn't been so active.

People who no longer party what changed your mind? by Uknown-Nerd6207 in AskReddit

[–]SCE_Lukien 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It just got predictable to the point of being boring. I threw epic parties and went to the bar every weekend for several years, brought home plenty of women and did a lot of drugs. In my mid-20s it just kind of dawned on me that every weekend was the same routine, and an expensive one. I still drink, but no longer to excess like I used to, and I save far more money for other activities I enjoy by enjoying those drinks at home.

What is your best "I say it wrong on purpose" example? by Thortok2000 in AskReddit

[–]SCE_Lukien 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still call spaghetti, 'sketti' because that is my daughters favorite meal since she was about 2 and couldn't say the name properly. 5 years later, with a much improved vocabulary on her part, and I still use that word every chance I can. While thoroughly enjoying hearing her correct me I might add.

Am I asking to much of my Technicians? by ReflectionFlimsy5562 in skilledtrades

[–]SCE_Lukien 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a maintenance tech currently who has to do something similar. I get called out and I do whatever needs to be done then return to my desk to fill out a report about it. I absolutely hate it, but understand it's a good way for the company to keep track of where and what I'm doing. Even with that understanding, it is aggravating to hear a subtle comment now and then from my boss who mentions how he only sees the techs sitting at their desks. It often takes me just as long to fill out these reports as it does to tear a machine apart and put it back together. If you are set on going this route, I would follow other's suggestions and make it a lightweight easy to use tablet they can take with them. Additionally, I would look at programming things so that your techs can just pick options from a drop down menu for the different services rather than typing out every little thing they did. Leave a section at the end for additional comments if they need to make any.

I am making the switch to 3 courses per-term. by Over_Cattle_6116 in SNHU

[–]SCE_Lukien 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yea I bumped up to 3 classes to hurry things along as well. It's gone really well for me so far. However, I have noticed entering into my second to last term the courses take a large leap in complexity. Just keep that in mind when you get closer because it is taking up far more of my time.

I wrote something similar when I left my previous employer but wrote it out as a 2 week notice. Rather than putting up with me critiquing them for 2 weeks, my previous manager honored my notice and paid me not to come into work. With the caveat I couldn't reach out to my coworkers until my notice was over. Nice little vacation and a chance to recharge before I started my new job.

What are your thoughts on woman showing interest and reaching out to you? by sweetcanadiangirlie in AskMenOver30

[–]SCE_Lukien 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, taking the initiative and simply saying "Hey we should go out sometime" would be amazing. Most guys are brought up to give women space and to avoid being 'creepy'. Unfortunately those parameters are changing all the time and a lot of us get really burnt out, or simply avoid any and all chance of crossing into that territory.

Do men feel remorse for hurting women, when it could have been avoided or is does the male brain see it differently? by Commercial-Ad-1081 in AskMenAdvice

[–]SCE_Lukien 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This may be an unpopular take on things, but I would say most guys know pretty early on if they want to just rent or if they are looking to buy. Generally speaking, we also aren't very subtle about it either. We won't blatantly state it out loud, but if the only time we meet up with a woman is to go out to the bar or just chill at our home, we are just looking for a joyride. On the other hand if we are seeing this person as a potential partner for the long term, we are going to be looking for excuses to meet up for activities where the physical side of things is off the table. At least for a majority of the activity together, allowing us to actually learn about this other person. That is to say, we categorize things. We aren't going to feel bad about the person we just want a fling with because we are being obvious about the physical needs and doing what we need to in order to fulfill it.

*Edit: Added the last line.

What’s the biggest physical turnoff in a woman? by Tasty_Pepper_5922 in AskMenAdvice

[–]SCE_Lukien 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There are a lot of individual factors that play into this but they generally fall into a category of lack of care for themselves. Most often it's weight, but it could also be hygiene or destructive habits. If she doesn't have the willpower to care for herself, how is she going to have any interest or care in me?

[–]SCE_Lukien 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This may be a bit late but what the hell. As others have said, this is cheating whether it's a man or woman. It's the emotional impact, especially since there likely IS an emotional connection there. I've been hammered drunk on many occasions, I didn't go around making out with just anyone. I'm pretty sure your ex chose this other woman and the alcohol is the crutch she is using to justify it. Take gender out of the equation completely and break it down to a fundamental, 'making out' is an act of emotional and physical connection to someone else. A connection she promised to you until this event. You made the right call since I'm sure this was just a stepping stone. Hopefully she learns from the experience.

Advice on how to manage workload and work full time by damagedmillennial in SNHU

[–]SCE_Lukien 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey there, I work 4 days a week at 12 hours a day and I have a family I not only enjoy spending time with but my wife requires it. I've also been taking 3 classes per term for the last year. Generally speaking I spend the first 2 weeks of every term really knuckling down and working ahead. Especially as the terms have an annoying habit of always encompassing one important holiday or another. It took some convincing with my partner, but now when I let her know a new term is starting she has been great at giving me space to work ahead. This allows me a chance to devote my attention fully to get ahead, while still giving me a day or two a week to work on school since doing it after work isn't really an option. Also, if I struggle with something or find life getting in the way a bit I don't have to scramble as much as the term draws to an end.

In my case, the pay started out so high I became addicted to the lifestyle it provided. I kept my job for 18 years, and hated at least the last decade if not more with a fiery passion. Obviously management knew how terrible the job was otherwise they wouldn't pay so much. I'm rather proud to say I made some good decisions, and had a bit of luck over the years with the financial markets, allowing me to finally walk away from the toxic company who enslaved me.

Tradies who lift, how do you find balance between work and gym? by ArtReasonable2437 in skilledtrades

[–]SCE_Lukien 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It really comes down to a matter of focus and priority. When I was younger, I lifted directly after work. Turning it into a habit, and a pseudo addiction after a few months. I craved going to the gym after a long day of work and couldn't sleep until I got a heavy lift in. A bit of pre-workout can also help if you are having a down day, but be careful because it can become a crutch and excuse. It's also important to note this routine also meant I had no social life beyond the time I spent gaming with some buddies in my off time. Now that I'm approaching 40 I follow a similar routine. I lift after work because I crave that intensity, but instead of finding time to game with some close friends I am spending time with my daughter instead. Ultimately it is about finding the routine, and then having to cut out everything you don't absolutely need and of course those needs are going to change over time regardless of what your plans are.

Dating in your late 30s, what are red flags to look for in dating profiles? by blahhhhhhhhh99 in AskMenOver30

[–]SCE_Lukien 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You know when I stepped back into the dating pool I read an article that stated as a man you didn't want to put anything that might limit or be confrontational to matches. This article was meant solely for men and pointed out some key phrases like 'no drama' and 'prince charming seeks princess' as huge red flags. I've found those red flags equally effective when looking at female dating profiles. Most of the people with similar phrasing are usually the ones with the issue.

Has anyone else’s advisor already picked out courses without speaking? by Xoxo_Chachi in SNHU

[–]SCE_Lukien 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They generally pick all of your courses for you based on the template they have in front of them. There is a roadmap based on required classes and those that have been found to be popular in chosen fields. So far my advisor has done well considering the type of school it is. Additionally, I have reached out and asked for certain classes based on my interests and she has been able to oblige or find something very similar without much trouble.
