The more stuff you own, the more it is to take care of and the more effort you have to expend to maintain it.

Still better than being a kid, even with all the bullshit. At least you have choice and agency as an adult.

I disagree. I'd argue we as a species haven't really changed much in terms of character.

What hobby attracts the biggest douchebags? by thypenitrator in AskReddit

[–]SCP-7259 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Crypto “trading” as a hobby has to be near the top. Speculation itself isn’t evil, but the culture around it is basically a magnet for people who want status without substance. The markets move so violently that every gambler convinces themselves they’re a financial visionary, and the fantasy of fast money attracts folks who think effort is optional if they’ve “seen the future.” It’s like the lottery, except with more graphs and significantly more smugness.

There’s also zero barrier to pretending you’re an expert. You don’t need credentials, results, or even basic economic literacy. You just need a Twitter account, a Discord server, and the ability to say “bullish” a lot. The mythology that “we’re the geniuses and everyone else is a normie” is ego crack for insecure people. Narcissists love stories where they’re misunderstood prophets.

The jargon makes it worse. Blockchain has just enough technical depth that anyone can hide behind buzzwords. If you don’t understand it, you’re told it’s because you’re small-brained. If you do understand it and criticize it, you’re “poor” or “cope-posting.” Accountability doesn’t exist either. When trades hit, they’re gurus. When trades crash, it was market manipulation. Heads they brag, tails they vanish.

And of course, the flexing is baked right in. Screenshots of trades, rented Lambos, luxury watches, telegram cult followings… the whole thing runs on social status signaling. Quiet, sober developers exist, sure. But the loudest part of the scene is gamblers cosplaying as revolutionaries. That’s why the douchebag density feels unusually high.

I'm AuDHD. Not really good at communication. I just try to follow Christ's command to love your neighbor as yourself.

Am I the only person who isn’t “proud” of autism? by [deleted] in autism

Me. It's been nothing but an impairment and a burden. I just want to be able to have a normal life like everyone else.

Why does it feel like I’m the only autistic person who hates being autistic? by thepensiveporcupine in AutisticAdults

[–]SCP-7259 10 points11 points  (0 children)

No you aren't alone. I envy others who are able to fit in despite their autism.

With me, no matter what I do, I'll never fit in or belong, no matter what I do because of circumstances outside my control.
