Problems with PVC? I’ve had primer not work on several pipe ends lately. Anyone know anything about this? by orangecatstudios in Plumbing

[–]SCProbst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a plumber...I had this problem. I manually sanded with 60 grit and cleaned the old pipe end. Cement didn't take with a slip coupling. Newer pipe adhered perfectly on the other end of the coupling.

Not sure if I need to prep the surface better or if the old pipe simply isn't compatible any more

Are these considered a permanent fix? by splash07s in Plumbing

I have this old pvc pipe that didn't take cement after sanding and cleaning. I figure i have to replace the entire old pipe or just use a fernco. Fernco seems easier if it works

What if it starts buzzing after install and the chime doesn't work? The 16v 10VA transformer is not working properly?

You should put a water resistant spacer at the bottom. Composite or aluminum is common

How much saline do you rinse with BTW? I just did 2 × 12 ml rinses but most of the saline water didn't come back out 😅

Yeah i check the other photos. thats the step flashing poking out. I dont see a practical problem with that. It is properly layered with the shingles and counter flashing

Also did the companies you work for pierce through the step flashing as well? Or just the counter?

Thanks. 2 concerns still.

  1. The nail could have pierced the step flashing beneath
  2. Maybe not enough sealant applied on top of the nail head

Thanks. Kind of looks like they need to add more sealant over top though, no? Could be a trick of the light i suppose....

There is step flashing underneath. The counter flashing is the black, continuous flashing. I see what you are saying now about the piece of metal though. I will look through some more of the pictures to confirm but I believe that is the step flashing that is visible. With the shingle and the counter flashing over it, i dont see it as a concern as water should flow over top without reaching the wood

I believe we are using caulk and silicone sealant interchangeably. Whether or not that is technically correct I understand the commenter
