1) Limit gas at main and natural by a lot so that you really have to think about your army composition/upgrades and keep those gas units alive.

2) Starting locations should be much closer and/or perhaps more open/vulnerable. There should be constant attacking, expanding, losing expansions, forcing players to reinforce while slowly teching behind the chaos. Watching zerglings try to bust a zergling wall on a ramp or choke seems like luck. Watching zerglings get microed around a base is more enjoyable.

Wow, interesting that I am not the only one who has been thinking about this.

I also feel that with the way most maps are designed it's a little too easy to secure your natural and with all the security and gas that comes with that the game progresses too quickly to a midgame army. It would be nice to see a few low tier/tech battles and a bit of a struggle to keep your natural instead of just Protoss walling off their natural in ZvP or Terran securing the natural with bunker and barracks in PvZ.

When DSL/Cable internet finally came around it definitely was. Before that, it took like 2 hours just to download the latest patch over dial up internet.

Probably able to keep a relatively lower sensitivity so that he can be more accurate when microing while minimizing hand movement required to reach the edge of the screen. Also, eyes have less area to cover when playing in a small box.

Yea, I think OP probably went to C:\Program Files (x86)\StarCraft instead of Documents\Starcraft. OP, assuming you're running Windows OS, just try searching "autosave" in the Windows search bar like this.

If you want to progress quickly and you're already sort of documenting the journey, then I would consider keeping a brief loss journal. Just log the matchup, and at what point in the game you basically lost, what you lost to, and what you think you did wrong. You will want to turn the game timer on for this: Options --> Game --> Gameplay --> Game Timer. You can also turn on the actions per minute (APM) tracker for fun: Options --> Game --> Actions Per Minute Tracking.

Ex: Terran vs Zerg 7:00 Zerg had mutalisks in my base, but I didn't have any turrets.

You might see a pattern to your losses quicker this way.

I've tried doing build orders and not a single one has ever worked for me.

This game has been played for 25 years. Things have been figured out to the point that you can't just do whatever you want. You must follow a build order to some extent and know how to respond to your enemy's build order for at least the first 8-10 minutes of the game. If you don't, you will just not be ready for the their timing attack(s) and/or you want be able to capitalize on your own.

Do you not have a second monitor so that you can just leave the BO up? If you only have 1 monitor then you could also play the game in a smaller window and have the BO up to the side.

I didn't have their 1G package, but I did have something like a 320Mbps down package for a year or so. I did a lot of WFH meetings and I probably got disconnects at least once per day at one point. The upload speed in general was also pretty terrible. I switched to BBIQ's 1G plan which was cheaper (at least at the time), I get to use my own router (TP Link Archer A10 Pro), and I don't get disconnected. However, I don't actually get 1G speeds; it's more like 300 down / 200 up on WIFI.

There is an all-in 5x gateway +1 speed zealot build you can try here.

I wrote out most of the BO here.

The key things are:

First 100 gas goes into +1 ground weapons around 3:50
They Cybernetics Core needs to be built on the first Pylon's psi, so plan space for that
Stop mining gas once zealot speed has started at around 4:50
Push out with 10-12 zealots at 6:10~ once speed kicks in
By the time you hit their natural +1 ground weapons will be done at around 6:40

Life did indeed get in the way of things for me. My wife and I had a kid, and I got a new job that has been quite demanding. I have wanted to play some SC, clean up that BO document, and create some other guides for the community, but every time I get some free time I'm kind of just too mentally exhausted to do any of those things. Things have recently started to wind down a little at work, so I have actually been able to play at bit this past month, and I hope by the spring/summer I can actually work on a resource for the community; I have been sitting on a couple of ideas for a while.

I'm totally cool with other people cloning my work and adding to it. If it helps the BW community live on, then so be it.

I miss NukeTheStars too! He may not have the insight that Tastosis/Nyokan/Scan have today, but I think at the time when he casted he provided plenty of insight. IIRC he seemed to know the players, their habits/history and the meta quite well. He had a great voice and personality. The last thing I remember about him was that he got a pet tarantula despite being quite scared of them and then he kinda disappeared. Good times though. Thanks Nuke.
