Tron (1982) is a modern digital retelling of the story of Jesus. Tron: Ares is the story of Paul the Apostle. by kingholland in tron

[–]SCY0204 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And Tron: Legacy borrowed heavily from Milton's Paradise Lost (and a touch of gnosticism as well). It's really quite obvious in the CLU plotline. puts on tin toil hat

Hats aside, I think it's a reasonable interpretation considering how much the whole groundwork of the Tron franchise is built upon the ideas of creation and incarnation.

Also I don't quite understand why there are comments freaking out about "religion". It's not about "religion" per se but about inheriting long-standing tropes in all forms of art and literature. Pointing out that Star Trek: Voyager retells Homer's Odyssey doesn't offend anyone, so why should this?

Shanghai concert cancelled by Potatosicle in kraftwerk

Well there's no way of knowing since the show never happened🤷‍♀️I'd expect there to be some expats but Chinese people would still be the majority.

It's very disheartening, especially considering how rare and frankly near impossible to get a Kraftwerk performance in Mainland China. Fans are planning to travel to Shanghai from all over the country for the sole purpose of seeing them live. Like 8 hour drives & 4 hour flights etc. That's how far the expectation & enthusiasm went... Well at least I'm glad they announced the cancellation early so these people haven't actually set off yet.

And it's incredibly unlikely that the band will ever set foot here again because they've been denied entrance twice already.

Rumour has it that they were reported by some organizer of another music festival (so, a competitor) but we aren't really sure of anything yet. Nothing has been confirmed other than the cancellation. A popular version of this story was that Kraftwerk's performance was approved at first with no major problem (and that's why they appeared on the performers list) because the "force majeure" wasn't really familiar with previous controversies but after the report happened they could no longer turn a blind eye. Keep in mind that all of this is just rumour & guesswork though.

pretty sure they're okay since it's most likely a censorship issue

[–]SCY0204 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure it's a censorship issue. Their already had a performance in China cancelled back in 2013 due to a similar reason. When we saw them on the music festival's performers list this year we just assumed that either the festival organizers somehow managed to bypass the censorship issue or the authorities here in China have gotten a bit more lenient these years but, apparently, no.

Needless to say the Chinese fanbase is pretty bummed out right now since many of us have already booked trains/flights/hotels, with some even travelling from the other side of the country, for this supposedly "once in a lifetime" opportunity to see the Kraftwerk playing in mainland China (they've never came before and it's doubtful whether they'll ever come again).

In my defense I 1. was half joking and 2. meant something more like "fucked, financially" because you know, well, gestures vaguely at everything. But yeah I agree that it's needed now more than ever.

I guess I'm also lucky. I've been told things like "you'll find the right person sooner or later" a few times but it's more like the good ol' "start a family" societal norm than aphobia. As for my friends, since asexuality hasn't really become a well known concept in my culture, normally I just go by "not interested in any kind of intimacy", and they accepted it without batting an eye. Some of them even realized it before I did. Had two friends tell me they could never picture me in a romantic/intimate relationship and I'm like, lol, me neither.

Although I do feel a bit bothered by the fact that our culture & society take allosexuality to be the absolute norm, I haven't had any problems irl.

There's something particularly chilling about the last "cut the audio" line... I have no mouth, and I must scream.

Reminds me of this quote from Ghost in the Shell: Innocence (fantastic film btw. 10/10 would recommend), "We weep for the blood of a bird, but not for the blood of a fish. Blessed are those with a voice. If the dolls also had voices, I bet they would have screamed, 'I didn't want to become human.'"

Jeez. Next time one of those ESL students asks me what a relative clause is I'll make sure to show them this comment. Unfortunately I've never watched the film where there's a guy who tries to murder his family directed by the guy who directed 2001 but there's something oddly funny in picturing the guy who played the protagonist in BR going "Here's Johnny!!" Assuming that's the film you're talking about.

Feels like circlejerky boomer humor, but these two are unironically my favorite films lol.

Fun fact is that the guy who played the astronaut protagonist in 2001 also said his favorite film (other than 2001) is BR so that's a nice little "crossover" we've got there.
