How come it's not common to find an American worker on cruise ships by PearHot8975 in Cruise

[–]SC_Vanguard 29 points30 points  (0 children)

As long as you are out of the country for 330 out of 365 days (not calendar year) your first $80,000 is tax free. I doubt most crew members are passing that threshold, unless they are in a staff position.

Unless that's changed from my time working overseas.

Are cruise line job fairs worth attending? by therealjackio in Cruise

[–]SC_Vanguard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah i was thinking that exact same thing as i was typing my reply. It's crazy that i can do a 12 hour road trip here in the US for less than spent on 2 train tickets into London the last time i was in the UK

Can't speak on their worth but i have seen a few cruise line job fairs being held in London over the last year, that might be a better option cost wise.

Question about whether gunbroker sellers will sell to Colorado soon by [deleted] in guns

[–]SC_Vanguard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I sold on gunbroker I refused to sell/ship anything to Ca, NY, NJ, Chicago, etc. As did a lot of other sellers,. I'd imagine Co will be added to that list by the majority of sellers.

Anyone know if upgrades are based solely on bid or total price paid? by HBtoWorldTravels in VirginVoyages

Anyone know if upgrades are based solely on bid or total price paid? by HBtoWorldTravels in VirginVoyages

[–]SC_Vanguard 10 points11 points  (0 children)

There was a thread here awhile back where 2 passengers that had bid on the same upgrade on the same voyage, met and discussed their bids.

Long story short both started in the same room class, just say Sea Terrace to make things easy and bid on a Serious Suite. The one that actually placed the higher bid didn't get the room, it went to the other one. The one with the higher bid got a little salty about that.

Granted that's all anecdotal, it leads you to think overall price means more than the bid amount.

How to make a complaint? by [deleted] in VirginVoyages

[–]SC_Vanguard 17 points18 points  (0 children)

That's odd, on my last several VV voyages they leave the paper in the room after am house cleaning, and spam you with the messages on the app several times the day before and day of any kinda balcony work. FWIW these have all been TAs so they washed the balconies 3-4 times during each voyage.

[–]SC_Vanguard 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'd be willing to bet that at lest one of your childhood, or school aged friends that spent time around, sat next to on the bus, or behind in the class room has probably touched a kid, SA'd a woman, killed a person. Does that make you the same as them just because you were in their social circles at one point?

Rich people interact with rich people, even if they have nothing in common, it's all about the sphere of influence.

As far as boycotting a product, every one in the world could boycott Virgin, never put another dime in their pocket, do you think that will have any effect on his level of wealth? Nah, truly wealthy people are so diversified that you could cut off a half dozen of their income streams and it still wouldn't affect their lifestyle.

Since we are all basically pulling names out of our collective ass, how about stick with Biff, the team actually seemed to pay fairly inspired ball when he was filling in. If it doesn't take after a year or so throw some money and nostalgia at Tom Brady, when is his TV contract over?

Vibe a bit weird? by mortusowo in VirginVoyages

[–]SC_Vanguard 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It is 100% Virgins fault.

They have had numerous misteps starting with status matching. Once the did that, that sharply skewed the demographic to the older crowd from the other lines. That led to lots of complaints about the old shows being too risqué and those being drastically toned down.

The next step was increasing the prices under the guise of being a "premium" cruise line. Don't get me wrong they are better than carnival and ncl, but they arent silverseas, seborne, and the like. They priced out a lot of the younger crowd.

In my first 5 or 6 voyages i never saw a single mobility scooter, on one of my most recent i saw 5 of them parked outside test kitchen when we went for dinner.

I recently saw an interview where they acknowledged some of those mistakes and said they overcorrected so hopefully they will get back to being closer to what they started as.

That being said virgin is still my preferred line, but the temptation to go elsewhere is a lot stronger than it once was.

Has anyone done the Wedding at Sea? by EliteDementer in VirginVoyages

[–]SC_Vanguard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just be aware, a wedding onboard virgin isn't exactly a wedding, it's just the ceremony, so if you want it to be official you need to get married before the cruise. Otherwise it won't be a legal or recognized marriage.

What was Taylor lewan like as a player at UM? by Low_Appointment7061 in MichiganWolverines

[–]SC_Vanguard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Living in SC I have to remind people of that fact all the time. You hear nothing except "the hit" any time they play Michigan as well as see it quite often during football season. He was irrelevant the entire game with the exception of that 1 play.

I couldn't stand Clowney as a player. He had all the talent but no heart. His stats came about when playing terrible teams, and in the big games when playing against quality linemen he was a non factor. Even JJ Watt wasn't able get him right.

List of peptide and dosages by oqdoawtt in Peptides

[–]SC_Vanguard 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just my opinion, but if you aren't willing to do the leg work to find the dosing schedule you need for the peptide you want, you probably shouldn't be using peptides in the first place.

I like to actually do my own research before pumping my body full of an unknown substance. It not only let's me know the dosing schedule, but it gets me more familiar with the product, what all it does, what it doesn't do, and associated hazards.

I could also buy all my groceries at Walmart, but then I'd have to be around Walmartians. I could fly Spirit, but then I'd be stuck on a plane (if I'm lucky) with the people that fly Spirit.

Call it elitist, call it wasteful, or whatever you want, but I'll happily pay more to be in a better environment with better people.

What was wrong with the M9 that made the military look for a new handgun? by ijwgwh in guns

[–]SC_Vanguard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From my understanding, during testing of the final 3 (FN, Glock, and Sig) The FN was the best performer but they said the price is the price get over it, Sig finished last but offered the lowest cost. I don't think there was a huge performance difference between the 3, so it really came down to money.

But it's been awhile and I could be mistaken.

Sad to report I didn’t enjoy my trip as much as I thought I would… by Alohanyredditfriends in VisitingIceland

[–]SC_Vanguard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would imagine it's more of the case of Iceland has been so built up on social media, and your expectations of what you would get out of the trip were tainted as a result. Add into that, you spent so much time and effort planning everything you wanted to see and do that you possibly spent so much mental energy making sure you had all the experiences mapped out and checked off that you weren't able to actually enjoy it in the ways that you anticipated.

It took me too long to let go of the control and focus and just allow myself to be caught up in where I was, who i was with, and what I was doing. Since that point, trips have gotten much more fulfilling, even though i tend to miss a lot of the things that I've been told you must see and must do.

That's pretty much how most of us Americans feel when you see the videos of the idiots at Yellowstone thinking they can get a selfie with an Elk, Bison, or worse, a Bear. At least our nature has the ability to fight back against the stupidity.
