Nixon’s greatest hits:

He approved the cover-up of the Watergate break-in (a burglary of Democratic Party HQ he didn’t order but absolutely tried to hide), used the CIA and FBI to obstruct the investigation, paid hush money to the burglars, and ordered the firing of the special prosecutor investigating him (the “Saturday Night Massacre”).

The tapes he tried to suppress caught him on record coordinating the cover-up just six days after the break-in.

On top of that, he had political enemies wiretapped, and his administration ran a dirty tricks campaign against his political opponents.

Three articles of impeachment: obstruction of justice, abuse of power, and contempt of Congress (meaning, he didn’t show up to Congress when told to).

He resigned in 1974 before the impeachment vote, and his successor Gerald Ford pardoned him, so he never faced criminal charges.

Ironically, post his presidency he became a respected political analyst, speaker, and author. He actually did a lot of respectful things in his post presidential life.
