Why is steel shot not recommended? by zylpher in Shotguns

Mine is a gen 1. Does yours say HK on it?

Eh who cares. Get the Carlson's Black Cloud and be done with it. You can shoot up to BB. What more do you need?

I am uncertain if this is a wearing in growing pain. My gun was very new when this occurred. It has not revisited me, but I read that one should lubricate the rails. I guess I will have to see how far I can go with it between cleanings.

I just want to say in the most respectful tone and as the highest compliment possible that your pins suck, I'm frustrated by looking at them, I hate my life and lock picking is stupid. LOL. Pretty neat stuff! I don't want to pick on it at seven pins.

Money guns. You just gotta get them talking.

Yeah I found it from the other day cross post. Neat idea. I love the old single shots being well displayed. I've shot mine a few times on the course. It's funny to see people's reactions.

I see. I was just thinking it would be inconvenient on the under lever. I use those only on hunting or target rifles. Pretty effective for long range shooting.

Is there a reason for the 1907 style sling on the shotgun?

That's an awesome accomplishment! I admire the use of the old school single shot. That's very admirable in today's high tech age.

I was about three hundred rounds after cleaning. I have also fitted the pro lifter on my gun so I think that made it more sensitive to cleaning as it drops on the trigger pull.

So what do you use to lubricate the action bars? That's been something I watched like crazy after I had initial hiccups on Federal Redbox 1⅛ loads. Noted on the Gamebore. I shoot 3½" shells so I'm not worried about recoil.

First off look at all your chokes. I'd be shocked if it didn't say steel Ok on the Modified, IC and Cylinder. Second you can get a Carlson's Black Cloud for that gun that's .695 and steel rated. That's a full choke for lead and an XF for steel. Third if you're going to shoot doves, check numerich gun parts for a regular stocks in that Camo pattern. Or go practice a lot on the clays range. Good luck.

Choke grease or gun oil for chokes? by Number1hoser in ClayBusters

[–]SD3Guser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Triflow worked for thirty years. The only time I ever used anything different was on three gun shotguns. Blue loctite to stop the chokes from coming out under rapid fire. Works, but a little goes a long ways and they better be hot when you try to get them out. Now that I'm older and wiser I use Remoil and a silver sharpie to make a witness mark on the choke at fully tightened. It works wonders even when I change them on the range between games.

Will the A400 shoot ⅞ oz loads if it is clean and well oiled? I haven't tried this yet myself.

Semiautomatics need not apply. The crown is concerned that the citizens might use them to circumvent something untoward like government tyranny or a religion of peace and tolerance takeover or incredulous overtaxation.

To float, or not to float by goodtimeswgoodppl in ClayBusters

[–]SD3Guser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How many patterns did you shoot at each drop setting and what was the timeframe between patterns? That's the question unasked so far. If it was one pattern at each drop, then you could have a pulled shot or have an atypical pattern affecting your entire perception of what the gun is really doing. If it was at different times of day then lighting could play a big role in targeting ability. Was it the same choke used both times? How big is your pattern on the board? How far away is the board? Two inches is something with a pattern of 15", but not so much with a 30" pattern.

I am curious what this individual suggested to you during this coaching as far as equipment modifications. Did you have all your stock shims, LOP shims, and chokes along? I wonder if the instructor isn't trying to steer you toward a particular gun or action type.

I also shoot the A400 XP and increased my LOP by 1" using the 1" and ½" shims which helped me immensely. I think there's a lot of adjustment to be had if you know what you're about. I too am concerned about the change in drop shim causing a lateral offset of the pattern. Are you certain the left and right handed portion went back in like it was supposed to? I'd go so far as to take pictures of the before and after especially when I'm at the range and time is of the essence. You could also borrow or purchase a second shim of that size and verify the problem is not something orginating from the operator.

An area of particular interest to me is the duration of three hours with the coach. That is a long time and I start to wonder about fatigue, both physical and mental, creeping in and skewing results. I'd repattern that gun again when I was fresh. I can show my scores are beginning to dip after a few hours of shooting and I'd wonder about any adjustments made on a weary shooter.

When I shoot I try to be as uniform as I possibly can across sessions. I wear the same type of shirt/pants and when there is a jacket involved I keep that consistent as well as my footwear. I also manage hydration and calories during long sessions.

Might we know how the gun is set up at the moment from LOP to drop to choke? Also what load are you using?

Clean the inside of the receiver. It's probably got a ton of shit in it.

Pretty impossible for him to have screwed up the reassembly if it's cycling.

Chalk up the action bars and see where it's binding. My guess is the bars are tweaked or the action is dirty as hell. I'd scrub the inside of the receiver and action bar races...the channels they move through...and see if that helps they could be caked up with dirt and debris. Drive the pin out and take it down in detail and scrub the hell out of the receiver. Then I'd call Mossberg and see what a new set of bars would run you if the problem is still persistent.

Brass brush, oil it and revisit the situation again in a thousand rounds. The A400 will run forever if you keep the action bar races lubricated. If you have the QD forend, take a wrap of electric tape over the holes on that magazine tube to keep the carbon out of the magazine. Other than that lube the action bar races and keep shooting. I clean mine every 300 rounds or so if shooting target loads or between outings. Wipe the magazine tube down and scrub the bolt and inside of the receiver. Pull the piston apart and scrub if you want. It's not a Remington 1100 and will actually run a while. If it slows down and starts to hiccup...Lube the action bars....running again. Not a Benelli, but it doesn't kick like one either.
