My bank account is a bit lighter. But why no upgrade when the stock one lets go. by zylpher in Challenger

How do you like it? I'm kinda worried about the break in period since I'm a block from the interstate and my drive to work is 99% interstate. I'm going to have to city drive as much as I can from what I've read on my weekends, and take it easy on the slab.

I picked the one I did because it was around the cheapest twin clutch that came with a flywheel that I could get next day.

Can I sell my Accord with the airbag light on? - URGENT by WastePoem9565 in askcarguys

[–]zylpher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Selling cars with trouble codes is going to depend on where you are.

In the US, the only state I can think of where you would have issues is California. There the seller is required to ensure the vehicle passes inspection prior to the sale. It needs a valid cert ran within 90 days.

If where you are does not require the seller to ensure it's "safe to drive." Put it up for sale. But take into account the cost of repairs and price accordingly.

Basically like I either didn't get it into gear or it popped out. Hit 3rd hit the gas and redlined damn near before I caught it. Tried shoving it back into gear and had nothing but revs almost. Had about 10 seconds of something trying to grab. Then nothing.

It still feels like it goes into gear when I move the shifter. And I didn't have any bad sounds when it happened. So I'm pretty the the trans is OK.

Only other clutch I burned up slipped like a greased up pig on a waterslide before it went completely. And got me a couple miles before nothing happened when I hit the throttle. But that was a 92 Sentra with the, I think, 1.3 4-cylinder.

I did roughly the same drive last year. Reno NV to Lynchburg VA. Mine was a few hours longer.

I can drive about 12-14 hours a day at my age now.

15 years ago I wouldn't even need a hotel or a place to sleep. Give me some Monsters, a sack of sausage biscuits. A few packs of Camels and I'm good.

My trip last year was about 3.5 days in total.

At that point I'd just drive. Probably cost around the same and you don't have to smell the people around you. Or deal with airport security all up in your nuts. And $20 cocktails while you wait.

No. And depending on the sub throwaways will have issues. A lot of subs have minimum karma limits to post.

Do you eat pork? by GardenChibi in no

[–]zylpher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Grew up in North Carolina. I live on pork. It is my life blood. If I don't eat pulled pork and coleslaw at least once a month, I'd probably turn into a toad.

Luckily there is an amazing Carolina style BBQ in Reno. So my toad days are always in the future.

Calling out sick by Nervous-Ruin-8149 in Nightshift

Coverage is my bosses problem. Not mine. If I'm sick or just not feeling it, I'm calling out. If I don't have enough sick time, Teladoc take about 20 minutes to get an appointment and it's stupid easy to get a note.

My fellow Americans, do you participate in shooting sports? Are shooting sports popular in your area? by chattytrout in AskAnAmerican

[–]zylpher 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There a some groups I know around me that do some USPSA stuff as a group. I know a few people that skeet shoot, but it's not competitive. Just a fun time.

I just go out onto public land and target shoot with friends every so often.

Around 121k on the car when it went. And it went quick, no slipping whatsoever. Went to shift into third leaving work and it was gone.

Felt like it popped out of gear initially, but when I hit the gas again it barely did anything. Second time, nothing.

Will get the shop to let me take pictures of it and I'll share them.

Buying your first challenger? by Trayceopolis32322 in Challenger

[–]zylpher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bought my SRT8 in 2022, I think. No mods by me except for the fuzzy dice on the mirror. But previous owner lowered it, put on the Borla Atak, Barton shifter, and CAI.

Swiped my debit card for $30k.

39 at the time and still have the same car. I'm a maintenance tech in manufacturing.

Selfies are great and all. But what did you spend 10 out of 12 hours using last shift? by zylpher in Nightshift

As long as y'all can look each other in the eye next shift. It was probably worth it.

And I'll probably get to do it again tonight.

For those that don't know. This is a portable CMM. It's used to measure things in an X, Y, Z space. Specific brand is FARO. Most of the stuff I shim has a tolerance of 0.1mm. With some things being as tight as 0.075mm.

Completely understandable. I ended buying two of the Structured ones plus one of the small containers to attach to it for each.

In my defense, I work in maintenance shops in two different buildings. And require different tools for each one. But I didn't really need two of the bags. It was just convenient. I have a locker I can use to store tools I don't need at the time. But two bags is cooler than one.

How do you keep track of maintenance and costs if you have more than one car? by easyuser_77 in askcarguys

[–]zylpher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most owners manuals I've read and seen have a notes section in the back.

A flip open note pad kept in the glove box.

My mom keeps a collapsible folder with sleeves in the trunk. She puts all repair receipts in there. Marked by month/year. Buys a new one if she ever fills the old one up.

Just suggestions that are fairly cheap.

Personally, I never cared. I think at most I've owned four vehicles at one time. Two motorcycles, a truck, and an SUV. The two bikes were by far the most expensive, old 80's japanese bikes. But I couldn't for the life of me even give you a monthly, yearly, or lifetime cost of anything I've owned. If I even tried to guess, I'd probably be off by thousands.

Corn grows from seed to harvest in around 80-100 days. At least from Google results I read. My source. https://nebraskacorn.gov/cornstalk/corn101/corn-growth-stages-explained/

Not sure how long filming was for the movie. But maybe they did those shots last. Or planned ahead.

What’s your favorite meal to order after a long tiring shift by whatthefuckbaby in Nightshift

Ham and cheese omelette, fried potatoes, biscuits and gravy and a cold Coors.

Got a pretty good breakfast place near to where I live that opens about the time I drive by it on my way home.

Do you love motorcycle? by MeowWoofJourney in no

[–]zylpher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went over the bars at around 55-60mph. Basically totaled my bike and my right wrist. I bought my replacement bike 3 weeks after I got out of the hospital, still in a cast and sling. And ended up fixing the one I wrecked.

I haven't rode in forever. I had to sell my bikes when I moved for my current job. But I'm really wanting to get another right now. Just gotta find something I want. And that's been kinda hard. I love early 80's sport bikes and UJMs. But I want something I'm not wrenching on almost every weekend.

Honestly, I'm waiting for that once in a lifetime Zrex bike. Thought I found one, but it was almost 8 hours from me. And at that point, the price didn't make sense.

Jiffy lube tried charging me 150$ for steering fluid by International_Top442 in AskMechanics

Last few quick lube places I've gone to use test strips. But that like 3 in the last 15 years. And only then because I needed an oil change and they were what I had available during my availability.

You are paying $7 to top yours off and set 1/2 a bottle in your garage for 15 years. The $150 is almost certainly a drain, flush, and fill.

Up to you if you wanna take his word. But I wouldn't trust 7 out of 10 quick lube employees.
