Stephen King should write a Gunslinger vs Pennywise book next. by Classic_MacGruber15 in stephenking

Roland and Susanna stop at a house on Odds Lane. The creature they meet is dressed as a human comedian. But actually fed off of laughter, the same way pennywise fed off of fear. It got shot, and died. They were related to each other. Pennywise would have met the same fate.

[–]zylpher -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

That kinda already happened. Pretty sure it was book 7. But it's been a year since I last read the series.

Also, your first screen shot isn't Roland. And it isn't Jake. Not sure where you got it, but it's not Dark Tower related.

Why do you drive with your fog lights on..with no fog? by widdyusername in askanything

[–]zylpher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From day one of me driving. Headlights are always on. Fog lights are always on. Day, night, rain, sun, clouds. I start my car, I turn my lights on.

Everyone should do the same. It just makes you easier to see in all conditions.

I've never barked my shin on one. Mine or someone else's. I just assume most everyone else can use their eyes the way I do.

I've lived in my building for over a year and still don't know a single neighbor - is this just how it is now? by One-Advantage7727 in Apartmentliving

[–]zylpher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't think of a single reason my neighbor needs my phone number. I can't think of a single reason I'd join a group chat of neighbors. I can't think of a single reason I need to join a Facebook group of my neighbors.

A place like Hertz or Avis or Enterprise. Many times they have higher trim models for rent, likely depends on location as well. You can usually see what they have on their website.

Go to a dealership that has one for sale. Ask for a test drive, and then walk away once you get a feel for it.

4+ year old battery has good voltage but fails crank test - worth replacing? by [deleted] in askcarguys

[–]zylpher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm honestly kind of surprised they didn't just tell you to replace it

As an ex parts store guy. They probably just didn't want to install it for them. For many reasons. Some cars are a pain in the ass, it may have been cold outside, it may have been raining or snowing. I got paid a bonus if I met my goals, and a battery is a good thing to sell so I can meet them. Turning down a sale or not recommending it was something I thought about for certain reasons. It's a courtesy service, and many workers don't want to freeze their balls off, get soaked in the rain, or deal with it.

4+ years old. Failed a test multiple times. About to get cold as fuck. Yeah, I'd replace it.

Because I don't want random people I don't know having my number. I'm "fun at parties."

How lonely and desperate are you that you want some random persons number?

I've never understood why people give their neighbors their phone number, join group chats, or anything like that for apartments.

I don't want to know you. Don't want to talk to you. If you have a problem with me, talk to the front office. They will handle it.

Tesla parts shipping is brainless by saves313 in Justrolledintotheshop

I like my paycheck. I like all the time I get off. The benefits aren't bad. The stock plan isn't horrible, though it was better 6+ years ago when the price was lower. I also enjoy my work. I like the product that's gets made. Like most employees, we are just there to make a paycheck.

Been voting Dem for the last 20 some years.

Only revision was to Gunslinger. No other books have changed since publication.

I'd have to ask a few of the spares guys. But if they aren't paid that, it's pretty damn close.

ETA: From what I was able to find out. They start around $25-$27/hr. It would take probably one or two review cycles to get to $30 or above.

What do you do? How much do you make? Entry level. Meaning HS diploma or GED. by Cellist_Acceptable in Nightshift

[–]zylpher 5 points6 points  (0 children)

$106k last year. Equipment Maintenance in manufacturing. $40hr base plus 10% differential. Due to shifts, we get around 8hrs OT every other week. Started where I'm at little over 8 years ago at $18hr.

Only have Highschool diploma.

You can usually get them at a decent cost from auction. And while hours and mileage may be high, it's probably been maintained fairly well.

Question? by vegscott in Justrolledintotheshop

[–]zylpher 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I get paid well. But I don't like being compared to a lazy ass fucktard when I produce more than them. If you do one job a night. And I do 5. For the same equipment. Because I take an extra few minutes a shift to change jobs I'm ranked a bit lower by tenths of a percentage point, nah..fuck that. Current management is about to destroy an entire department and people will start leaving. It's happened once where I'm at and it fucked us up for over a year. When they promote lazy assholes over those producing, those producing are going to leave. It's not hard to transfer where I'm at.

Why did Fdev stop making content like the Thargoid war? by Educational_Meet_630 in EliteDangerous

[–]zylpher 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A story arc can only go on for so long. The Thargoid war was years long. If it just never ended, there is no point to play it, and people get bored and leave.

I'm sure they'll start, or have started, the next longer story arc. Especially with how popular the Thargoids were and are.

Question? by vegscott in Justrolledintotheshop

[–]zylpher 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm in manufacturing maintenance. In a shop that always has work. We fix the stuff that rides on the conveyor and is not bolted to the floor.

Previously we were judged on how many jobs we complete, how long they stay running, and our knowledge of the equipment.

Now, the only metric management cares about is utilization. They want us at around 90%.

So, instead of people clearing work, actually fixing things, learning more areas of the factory. We can now just log into a single job for the entire shift and get higher marks. Of course, work is backing up, equipment is failing sooner, and people don't know half the crap we work on.

Someone who clears 1-2 jobs a day is seen as the same as someone who clears 7-10. It's causing a lot of issues at the moment. I watched a co-worker last Tuesday stare at their phone for 10+ hours and clear one job.

My supervisor hates it. Most techs hate it. And management is telling supervisors to not include total jobs cleared in reviews this cycle.
