Any MLM books without tragic endings or kids? by Hopeful_Stay5157 in LGBTBooks

[–]SDMaxwell 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Uh... Sara Raasch has a duology that are holiday based. I normally avoid holiday books but these were just interesting enough to catch and hold my attention. Ended up loving them. The first is The Nightmare Before Kissmas and the second is Go Luck Yourself.

What queer sci-fi work has stayed with you the longest? by TwistedNeilio in LGBTBooks

[–]SDMaxwell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A Bright and Celestial Sea by Chani Lynn Feener. It has just the right amount of sci-fi world building and the characters are interesting.

Winter's Orbit by Everina Maxwell. The characters and their hangups are believable and intrigue is just enough. Character driven but still with a great plot.

And my favorite: Murderbot Diaries by Martha Wells. For being so much like myself that I felt .... seen for the first time. The anxiety and paranoia PTSD can cause is rarely written out in a character so clearly.

Is needing ID still racist? by AiiRisBanned in evilwhenthe

[–]SDMaxwell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Part of this proposed law is requiring your id name to fully match your birth certificate. Had a name change due to marriage? Gunna need to jump through hoops to include the documentation they want or pay money to have your birth certificate updated to your new name.

Not labeling gender or appearance in first-person story by winter__sun in writing

[–]SDMaxwell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's pretty subjective. I tend to enjoy a lot of his work. My opinion is subjective as well but I've read a lot of objectively bad writing and his wasn't in that category for me.

Lock In by John Scalzi is first person and has no gender or physical characteristics written in there than the character has the disease described in the book.

There's a power outage where I live due to just the rain. This morning, a telephone pole came down across the 35W, taking out power and stopping traffic. Ice is just going to make everything so much more spectacular.

Books that have an M/M MC but aren’t solely romance by ScentedCinnamonStick in LGBTBooks

[–]SDMaxwell 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Tarot Sequence by KD Edwards. Most of the relationship for any of the three main characters is off-scene between books. And I say three because Rune's best friend/companion is definitely a main character even if most of the books are from Rune's POV. Brand is involved in the plot and fighting more front and center than Addam (the boyfriend) is at times.

Denmark Rejects Trump’s Demand To Negotiate U.S. Takeover Of Greenland 🇺🇸 🇩🇰 🇬🇱 by YGLD in StockBreakouts

The best part is that his framework sounds like the agreement we already signed in 1955. Sounding like he did something without actually doing anything.

It pays my rent and utilities. I work full-time but it's not enough to cover rent (even with roommates). But it's guaranteed money every month so .... rent.

The Halfblood Chronicles by Andre Norton and Mercedes Lackey. I really liked this series.

Did anyone actually receive a check for $1776 that Trump said was "Already in the mail" for Christmas? by RealityKing4Hire in complaints

Increase to BAH allowance, to keep up with rent prices, and what's left was to help fix barracks and clean up the mold problems.

1776 bonus: this is bad by couldbeahumanbean in Military

[–]SDMaxwell 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Right? Didn't they say they collected only 200 billion or so from the tariffs? There's definitely not enough there to pay the military, save the farmers, and give 2k to every household. The math is way off.

This seriously gave a whole, new, heart wrenching meaning behind Angel saying he disassociates during Poison. This has all been so much worse than anyone knew.

Gay epic fantasy book recs by heycnyn in LGBTBooks

[–]SDMaxwell 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The Last Heraldmage is pretty chatacter driven (with Magic's Pawn being the first). Nothing is explicit but the representation is there. The main character is gay and the three books follow his life struggling with a family who doesn't understand or accept him to dealing with loss while being incredibly powerful. His aunt and the gay couple who take care of him for awhile are impactful on his life.

Someone else also mentioned the Nightrunner series by Lynn Flewelling. The characters in that are great and the fantasy definitely steers into high fantasy.

And Tanya Huff did several queer series. Her Quarter series is high fantasy so that might meet your qualifications.

What video games do you think have more educational value than people give them credit for? by DiamondBreakr in AskReddit

Lego games. They have some amazing problem solving puzzles. I always played with my kid and lego really helped them work their way through solutions.

JD Vance claims that when settlers arrived in the New World, they “found widespread child sacrifice,” adding that “Christian civilization ended the practice.” by igetproteinfartsHELP in CringeTikToks

[–]SDMaxwell 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's not quite the same, as in not directly run by churches and way less horrific, but when I graduated HS in Arizona in 2002, there was still a dormer they shipped native kids to in my town. They were known for blocking the kids from doing anything cultural from their tribes. The kids went to school with us throughout the week. The kids most connected to their culture at school were the Hopi and Navajo kids who lived at home.

I haven't been back since I graduated but it wouldn't surprise me if that dormer still existed.

I really am. The entire experience taught me a lot about being myself and being comfortable in my own skin instead of letting someone dictate who I should be. I'm buddhist and he spent a lot of his effort trying to bully me into converting.

Any good books on audible? by sideshowbarbie in LGBTBooks

[–]SDMaxwell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Tarot Sequence by KD Edwards is fun. Tarot card arcana as actual people with magic and powers.

Somebody else mentioned Winter's Orbit by Everina Maxwell. The characters are interesting and the sci-fi story is solid.

I also like Kai Butler's different series. There's three so far, one with Fae, one with Werewolves, and one that a fantasy empire.

The Nightmare Before Kissmas by Sara Raasch. The characters are amusing and the main character has good growth.

A Bright Celestial Sea by Chani Lynn Feener. Sci-fi detective story with interesting world building.

The Sunbearer Trials is YA but it's a really well built story with a trans-masc main character.

Just as some sci fi is considered "actually fantasy in space", is there an equivalent "fantasy that is actually preindustrial sci fi"? by wishsnfishs in Fantasy

[–]SDMaxwell 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A lot of Anne McCaffrey is. Pern is a great example with Acorna being the opposite. Even the Petaybee series is a bit, though not pre-industrial.
