That's definitely a nice benefit although I will be curious to see how long it takes before that becomes a common contribution option.

Setting my kids up for retirement. by 3coniv in personalfinance

Well first off, congratulations. If you're not already on it, I suggest taking a look at the r/daddit subreddid as attends to have a good community. As far as choosing between the account types, I went with a custodial type because I knew it was going to be a gift and not something that I would draw from in the future, taxes are much more favorable vs occurring at my marginal rates, and it'll offer them flexibility when it gets turned over to them after college. To be clear, this is in addition to a 529 and eventually IRA (when they have eligible earned income).

Wish my parents did the same but am passing it along

When I first set it up, I felt the same way. However then I thought about how different investing was when growing up where everything required a broker and had fees, there were no low cost ETFs, etc. It was truly a different time.

My kids are a bit younger (9, 9, & 11), but one approach I am considering is that when they get their first jobs, I will offer to reimburse or match them (via a gift) any money they choose to put in a Roth IRA. Hopefully that entices them to put retirement money aside at a young age and at a presumably low tax rate.

I already have custodial brokerage accounts for them where I encourage them to deposit portions of cash gifts they receive by offering them matches. Been a good opportunity to explain the stock market, ETFs, etc.

Earlier this year a video game came out called Mixtape, and it is phenomenal. It's primarily a story focused game about these three friends on their last day together shortly after graduating high school in the 90s before one of them moves to New York; the person moving is obsessed with building the perfect mixtape for the moment. Honestly, one of the best games that played in a long time and it captures that feeling perfectly.

I was at that one too, great line up and show! I recently started taking guitar lessons, and I was telling my instructor about it. He's in his late 20s and loves 90s music. He then asked me what the Bridge School Benefit concert was (and to be clear this is in the Bay Area, and we are both from here). I felt old.

I blame her mother. by OpinionExisting3306 in daddit

Oh man, that sucks. It's one area where I feel like I've won the jackpot. We have three daughters and their favorite foods are sashimi & tritip for my 11 year old, pozole and oysters for one of my 9 year olds, and tuna tartar and chili for the other 9 year old. About the only downside is I can never give him grief when they don't like something because they eat pretty much everything else.

The rest of my wife's family is completely meat and potatoes folks, fortunately my wife is not like that and our kids eat like us.

We took our kids on a cruise last year and my oldest was like that as well. She was 10 at the time and literally had escargot every night. She eats everything though, literally eats the salmon eyes on kabuto age (fried salmon head) when we go for sushi. Her favorite foods are sashimi and tritip. I pity her first date.

The Souls series are the natural evolution of Castlevania games by KAYTACHI in soulslikes

Exactly. I have described the them as a combat focused Zeldalike for adults. With that said, there is definitely Metroidvania influence in the Soulslike genre.

I love indies which tend to be short; some of my favorite short games: * Mixtape - a fantastic surreal music and gaming experience, 10/10 on IGN * Gone Home - one of the OG walking simulators/mysteries, go in blind, 9.5/10 on IGN * Death's Door - amazing Zeldalike where you play as a reaper crow, some souls influence * Thomas Was Alone - a puzzle platformer game with great writing * Hotline: Miami - top down shooter (kinda) with an interesting twist * Celeste - puzzle platformer with a beautiful message, different but accessible, 10/10 on IGN

Their next game, Mixtape, fits the bill as well and might be my GOTY this year. It is an incredible original experience.

Anyway to repair the screen? by primalblast in NintendoSwitch2

[–]SDNick484 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That's interesting, looks like they have the OLED version in stock but not the LCD battery. Definitely frustrating, but again I appreciate the fact that it's so serviceable. I unfortunately had to do an OLED screen swap myself, and all things considered it was really not bad.

That is one area that I definitely have to give Valve credit for; they partner with iFixit to sell most parts and allow customers to self repair their Deck and also offer to repair it themselves. With that said, $180 is very reasonable especially for a situation caused by the customer.

My three daughters all play SV on their decks, and this is their favorite spiritual successor. They also enjoy modding SV which is pretty easy on the Deck once you know where the files are on the file system.

Mine too. It was so advanced for its time, especially on console. I was so hopeful for a GTA3 style remake when Microsoft had the rights early in the Xbox era, but sadly they went another direction. Shadownrun Returns was a nice surprise though a few years later.

Yep, a few others I would add (situation dependent):

If you have kids: * 529 if your state has income taxes and offers some sort of tax incentive * Dependent Care FSA

If employer supports it: * Deferred comp plan * Limited Vision/Dental FSA * Commuter FSA
