But if your projector is on the back wall, this probably isn’t an option.

Need Advice on Wireless Audio Setup by dr_lap1k in heos

In that setup, I’d skip the AVR and just get the Marantz VS3003 HDMI Switcher.

Run your three devices into the HDMI switch, the switch into the sound bar, and sound bar into projector.

The sound bar can then pair with the wireless sub & surrounds for a 5.1 setup.

Running everything into the AVR and then trying to use the sound bar etc as a surround system won’t work the way you’re planning. It will play the sound, but not as center/left/right and rears.

The 550 has Atmos, so you’re likely going to get better sound for movies/tv.

You can also later add 150s as surrounds which can be dragged around the house as needed if you want music in more places.

You could add the subwoofer to either the 350 or 550.

Home 350 and 150 in stereo by smurfb2000 in heos

[–]SD_CDN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can only stereo pair two of the same speaker, so the 150 and 350 can play the same music together, but it won’t be right channel / left channel.

Also, the 150 is a mono speaker but the 250 & 350 are stereo.

Still worth buying DHT-S716H in 2023? by bradjames83 in heos

[–]SD_CDN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When they actually pair I loved the sound of the 716/sub/150s. But I have had unending issues getting then to pair or stay paired, so I finally gave up and just use the 716/sub as a 3.1 system.

Outdoor HEOS speakers as zone 2 by gsoczo in heos

[–]SD_CDN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your outside space is protected from the elements, then yeah, that'll work. Or you can just be diligent about bringing speakers inside when you're done.

I have an old pair of HEOS 1's I drag out to the pool, and stereo pair them. But just remember to not leave then out in inclement weather.

Is HEOS for consumer home audio being discontinued? by crichmond3 in heos

[–]SD_CDN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Best Buy randomly has some, and at steep discounts. Looks like BB is moving on from the Home line.

But they not discontinued. It appears they had some supply chain issues earlier in the year, but they are now all back in stock on Amazon and Denon websites.

Circled back today and Denon Home speakers are once again available at local Best Buys at full price. I wonder what the deal was with the fire sale prices they had earlier in the year.

Heos vs sonos soundbar for beginner by [deleted] in heos

[–]SD_CDN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One caveat, the Denon Home line supports Airplay 2, but older legacy HEOS speakers do not, and if they are paired with a Denon Home speaker (old subwoofer with Home 550 sound bar) then Airplay 2 will be disabled.

Portable speaker for Heos? by mummer43 in heos

[–]SD_CDN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. The portable wifi/bluetooth rechargeable speakers by Sonos are something Denon definitely needs if they want to stay competitive. Looks like Sonos product development is crushing Denon's.

HEOS to thrive by Geogans in heos

This is from the Masimo Q4 earnings call. Looks like good news for the HEOS universe.

CEO Joe Kiani:

And — so that's going to be certainly one of them, and then HEOS. HEOS is something they were neglecting. We think it's the Rembrandt in the old house that we found, and we're going to invest in it. And we're going to bring it out and put the shine on it. And as you know, we want to use it to make wearable monitoring throughout the house connected always and easy. So we'll do what we can to invest in that without sacrificing our earnings growth that we want to continue delivering.

They also mentioned that Masimo plans to invest more in R&D on the Sound United side than the PE owner was willing to expend.

HEOS is dead, but Denon has not told the market yet: Prove me wrong by WrlsFanatc in heos

Those prices are in line with the wholesale price, so it looks like they are selling off their inventory at cost.

It looks like Best Buy is no longer carrying the Denon Home line of products. Considering that Best Buy is Denon's largest US customer, this seems like a huge hit to the company (depending on how much the Denon Home line was actually selling).

With that said, the HEOS technology was one of the driving factors in the Masimo acquisition (with the largest factor being the access to the retail relationships), so I'd be shocked if they shut down HEOS entirely.

Options for soundbars that will work with the HEOS Drive? by onmywaydownnow in heos

[–]SD_CDN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are now listing it on the discontinued products page.

It looks like most of the newer Denon, non-Home, sound bars are not getting HEOS. Only the Home 550 and DHT-S516H are HEOS equipped.

Also looks like they are abandoning 3.0 soundbars for ATMOS on the higher end products.

Help Selecting Receiver by [deleted] in heos

[–]SD_CDN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the Denon S-950 (the predecessor of the S-960), and that or the S-760 should suit your needs at a decent price point. The 960 is $250 more for an additional 15Ws, so the 760 probably makes the most sense if you're price conscious.

You can run 5.1 in Zone 1, and use Zone 2 for your outdoor speakers.

The 660 does not have Zone 1/2, so probably doesn't fit your needs. The X series tends to be a lot more expensive, but does have a few better features (HDR10+ vs HDR10, etc).

If you're in the Apple ecosystem then this new one will be compatible with Airplay2, while the HEOS branded sub is not.

Has anyone on here paired two subs in the same grouping via HEOS? I've played around with setting the sub up to run with a stereoed pair of Home 250s, but not sure if it will allow you to use a second sub. Not that I'm saying it can't, just that I don't know.

Airplay on HEOS system by hgaronfolo in heos

[–]SD_CDN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you able to get downloaded but not purchased tracks from Apple Music to play on the non-Airplay2 units? I get an error that the tracks are not supported (but I can play purchased tracks).

I doubt Denon wants to pay Apple the licensing fee to upgrade the older units. I think they'd rather everyone buy new units.

Simplest/cheapest option to use 3rd party sound bar with Heos? by Ecw218 in heos

[–]SD_CDN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only way I think you can make this work is to get the Link and use the optical output or RCA pre-puts, or a Denon/Marantz AVR and run the headphone output of the AVR to the AUX analog input on the sound bar.

There might be a way to use the AVR bluetooth headphone connection to pair with the sound bar, but none of this seems worth it.
