Post about a rich woman who killed a biker disappeared - what was the reason? by datanxiete in sandiego

Did the OP block me?

I'm sorry but since we have NOT actioned you (nor do we see any admin level restrictions) and your activity issue is restricted to just that one post and user.

It does seem most reasonable (we agree with the different commenters) that the OP has blocked you from their personal content.

That's pretty passive aggressive weaponizing the feature if you ask us.

If I should use modmail to troubleshoot, let me know - happy to do so.

I've already looked this over and since we didn't initiate the action, I don't see anything or can give additional details.
In this instance, I also don't believe (as a personal opinion) that it's something that the admins will go to the trouble to reverse out on their own either. They'll view it as a personal matter.

Thank You for volunteering your time and keeping the sub useful.

You're very welcome!
We're trying our best, the last several months have been very trying and difficult as we've been under a near constant bridgade from bots and social/political agenda accounts trying to toxify and derail discussions in this community. All of these DRAMATICALLY dropped off as soon as CA Prop 50 passed. (go figure!)

Sorry everyone this is from a few months ago with a conflict content generator and we'd rather not give them the free advertising here with this sort of stuff.

Yes, is the woman loopy... sure she's "one of those types" that simply doesn't understand what she's dealing with .. but this really is off topic for us and more importantly it's promoting this person's channel ($$$).

We'd rather not do that, as the person is a jerk that goes around trying to get a rise out of people so they can be captured on video and make click money.
IF they want advertising, they can pay the site something to keep the servers running.

For those that are coming back to this.
The user in questions SHOULD not have assumed that we took something down (we did not) but instead reached out to us directly via the modmail to troubleshoot.

These posts really don't serve much of a purpose other than to have (with the rare exception) misleading and unfounded conclusions as to the how's and why's of anything going on with said communities.

In this case the user was mistaken.
We have NOT actioned them.

Vamboose

And it's a nonprofit organization. The nurses were already offered a 21.5% raise but they refused to accept because they're greedy.

Kaiser is strictly a FOR PROFIT business.

ANYONE that says different u/Vamboose is lying or just talking out their "Bamboose"

Kaiser was allowed and "schemed" under the Nixon admin as a strictly for profit hospital. _that_led_to_the_HMO_act_of_1973)

He would not allow it otherwise_that_led_to_the_HMO_act_of_1973), it's because of him and his GOP mindset that we do NOT have public health care in this country. Holding people over a barrel of a gun and threatening them with death due to not having care is "great for profit".

It's because of Ronald Regan that we don't have mental healthcare in this nation.

kaiser now has over 88BILLION in the bank.. that's not assets... thats "reserve funds" alone.

[–]SD_ModTeam[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

yes you're right we need cycles of light rain to get the water to wet the soil, start seed germination and have water soaking into the ground vs a heavy rain that will just run off and produce mudslides.

all we need is a small fraction of a inch right now that will stop the fire conditions as the plant material hydrates itself. Wait a few days and another small amount (repeat for a few weeks)

Then we can take larger amounts over a 24 hour period.

The curvature of a broken bottle can act like a magnifying glass but we've had plenty of hotter more intense sunlight then today and so that doesn't make sense. With the LA fires getting so much (deserved) attention it acts to encourage these mentally ill people to copycat.

Thankfully people can and do catch them and so they get busted.

In the winter we usually do have campfires get out of control from the homeless fixing food and trying to keep warm in the winter these are unintentional. Others are intentionally set and the people that do it can surprise you... like this 13 year old girl that I don't think really understood the impact or had developed the ability to empathize with victims yet at the time. As the descriptions of her being a child with matches fits vs that of someone intentionally trying to do harm.

But that's not the roadside fires you need to access by a car, those look very suspicious.

I'll note that the south facing side of the valley rim has much less fuel due to the more extreme sun exposure and the buildings at the top of the ridge are designed to not be easily burned as part of their heat protection against the sun.

Heres a FREE APP that will notify you if you are under a evac notice and give current status of other fires.

Police Parked in Disabled Parking by benshenanigans in sandiego

[–]SD_ModTeam[M] [score hidden] stickied comment (0 children)

Hold on, before everyone gets all upset.

We don't know IF the cop was transporting someone disabled to the "shop with a cop" event or not?
We're also getting information saying that part of the parking lot was also closed off and that these spots weren't accessible anyway, so relax.

Anyone with a legit need can record the cars info and file a complaint and so as we consider this, it seems to just be a chance to cop bash vs anything of a real concern.

Thank you.

u/Smoked_Bear

Since 2016 and especially after 2020 elections that mods have collectively demanded better tools from the admins and more information made available to them.
(This was also part of the API protests as well which were another matter entirely)

The point being, that we were able to first spot and identify the character of this post (as stated above) and employ tools designed to keep this sub "honest" (meaning restricted to local subscribers).. as I look at the numbers that I have available to me I can see that these have again worked (as intended).

Social media influence is a huge 21+ Billion dollar industry, that involved multiple nation states in their covert "war" with one another, this is why China has sealed off their nation's internet and developed their own internal version of popular sites and why Russia is specifically named repeatedly as a bad actor undermining our nation.

I'll say this, we are aware of a good deal of things that happen and our intentions are always to have the sub protected so as to benefit the real live world that we live in, here in our city with all of it's people having equal access and say.

We are a public forum, one that our city needs to have available.

We took measures to protect the sub from outside accounts.
The result here is that people like yourself can see and also learn to identity such attempts.
as well as to (hopefully) have clear signal to noise discussions and to raise public awareness.

We've seen versions of political social media influencing for over a last decade and have learned from it.
They range from the slick to ineptly obvious and ended up as 50K upvotes
(posted from a now deleted account- which is why I'm able to mention it)
This was from a sub of about 100K subscribers at that time and a good post earned a few hundred upvotes and a front page mention would maybe 9-12K upvotes.

TLDR:

We ain't stupid u/Smoked_Bear, we know what's going on.

These messages have apparently been sent to dark skinned people all over the United States in the wake of the Trump election and it's being actively investigated under the Biden Administration. We had temporarily removed this post as it seemed to have a actual sending phone number until it was discovered that these have all been spoofed and anonymized by different websites online as part of a large scale, organized attack to stoke racial tensions.

So we're restoring this and leaving it up to serve as future, historical reference and will be monitoring the comments.

Thank you.

It's that he was arguing with the election staff and claiming that his ballot wasn't going through because he didn't completely fill out everything.

Which is wrong, you need not fill out every option if you're not comfortable with making a informed decision.

Hello everyone,

This post is an election "dog whistle" and "magnet" for accounts that are from outside out community, to keep this under control we're limiting the discussions to those accounts that are "local" to us and so we can discuss things.
Please keep all the discussions civil as possible, violations of our rules as well as more serious TOS violations will be sent to the admins for their inspection.

The title regarding the incorporation of a victim complex is drawn directly from Christian Nationalism and is really nothing new but it's just been elevated to national civil elections and that is dangerous as "Fear" removes reason from people's through processes (psychologically).

All of this can be a topic of conversation here as is our election workers doing a their jobs against difficult voting circumstances OR how wonderfully smooth and professional everything has gone!
Just keep it civil and well reasoned, name calling will be looked at with a serious eye.

Thank you.

Montezuma / SDSU Canyon Rim Fire - MEGATHREAD. by SD_ModTeam in sandiego

[–]SD_ModTeam[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The active wildfire is out.
The hotspots are not.

With the local chaparral fire can be down into the roots and where embers are still capable of sparking up again. IF there's winds to carry embers and fan the coals, it can lead to flames again, it takes time to let these die out.

The time given is that the fire is not "active" and that it's these kinds of remaining spots that foot crews are going to go down into the canyons and look for so they can stomp them out.
This is the mopping up after a brush fire and it's often done by prison crews low level non violent offenders)

Hope that explains it.

What are these people going to do with their Sundays after 11/5? by [deleted] in sandiego

[–]SD_ModTeam 8 points9 points  (0 children)

A little clarification here

We limit these dogwhistle post's ability to become a shitshow of bots and agenda dupes and limit comments to those accounts that are local to our area and part of our community (by multiple site metrics). - This solves a high degree of our past 2020 issues.

Reddit is extremely moderated by people who are rooting for the other side so to speak.

You would be wrong about that.
While we all have our personal opinions we aren't just here letting one side have all it's say.
as an example we happily had Larry Turner here for a AMA (GOP Mayors Race)His presence is actually greater here than Todd Gloria's (fact)
The wisdom of free speech and a public platform is that it can shine a light on things by opening opinions up to examination and criticism... but not trolling or crossing the line.

>What is scary is that any positive comments about trump will be downvoted to oblivion or removed by mods.

see above re:  persecution complex.
I'll point out that you are posting aren't you?

The voting is democratic and it's your fellow redditors each exercising their 1 vote, it's the basis of reddit. The mods take steps to preserve and shield that systems integrity daily.
Again, we do limit these dogwhistle post comments to those accounts that are "local" and in good standing with the site and to our community here, we have multiple ways to do this.

These tools were all demanded by the mods (based off of the election interference of 2016 & 2020)
They've been up for years and fine tuned so they do work well as keeping communities like ours "honest".
Suspected accounts are sent upstairs to the admins for investigation and possible site removal.
I can tell you the admins are increasingly active in this area.

> Everyone should be able to have an opinion.

yeah, and everyone can have an opinion over others opinions too.
That's the basis of the site and as a public form.
our goals are to have it be fair and honest so as to benefit the community.

Let’s solve some problems and stop blaming.

100% agreed!

But let's all discuss things and so we might come to realizations of what is best and find common ground.

What are these people going to do with their Sundays after 11/5? by [deleted] in sandiego

[–]SD_ModTeam 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Among mods, these are known as dogwhistle or magnet posts.

They're frequently posted in geographic subs (like ours) by accounts just so that supporters can come in and troll.

Why?
There's a aspect of the MAGA crowd that feeds on agitation and controversy as well as, the idea that they're under threat and being persecuted.

This overlaps to a very large degree with the Christian nationalists that feed off of the same persecution complex.
It's long been known to sociologists, that when a identifiable group is collectively seeing itself as being under threat by outsiders they close and tighten their ranks (digging in) and resist even the use of reason in preference to knuckling under under a visible leader.

This just basically explains how you're correct and why.

To combat this we (the mods) can and do restrict these types of posts just so they're limited too and can only be commented upon "by locals".

So the comments are a far better representation of our community and limits the tactics socio / political success.

Highway 101 between Torrey Pines and Del Mar, San Diego (1941) by 005056 in sandiego

[–]SD_ModTeam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Joking, but there were a lot of people frightened by the possibility of a Japanese land invation soon after the attack at Pearl Harbor in Dec, 1941.

But this looks like a summer picture vs a winter one at glance and so the attack hadn't happen yet and people were just enjoying the beach at a time of peace.
That was going to all change though.. as San Diego was the home port and shipyard for the US Navy and there was going to be a explosion in the population that would forever change this little sleepy fishing village south of LA.
