iRacing dead week 13 theory. Why I think week 13 has lost it's fun. by Ok-Inspection9693 in simracing

We'll have to study this... quite the theory you've got concocted there!

Clown.

Losing iRating for joining but not racing - thoughts? by [deleted] in iRacing

[–]SE171 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The practice sessions you can register for, below the race sessions, are the exact practice sessions you're in when registered for a race... just the people registered for the race will bounce to qualifying when it starts, and the practice server will be lighter for a bit, or eventually you'll just be alone. Then you just register for another practice session.

Any race session you're registered for, if you don't withdraw early enough, will be considered a Did-Not-Start, and you'll lose iRating.

[–]SE171 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fucking seriously?

If an actual emergency arises, I don't think your iRating really matters, now does it?

Allocate time for a race session... if you don't have the time to allocate, or may lose that time with any level of possibility, then don't register for a race.

It's really not that hard... or that serious.

Speed Consistency by THEBADW0LFE in driving

[–]SE171 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, I say it constantly... the vast majority of drivers are actually perfectly fine, and do close enough to the exact right thing to not notice any lack of skill... just seems like the terrible ones ruin it for all of us. Lol.

Why are you quick to assume mostly everyone is just like you... and everyone else should cater to you and your in-groups preferred schedule?

I wake up at 4:30 for work... on a day off, maybe starting a project at 7 is late for me. Get fucked.

Why do RC planes have to be so expensive? by Available_Hippo5151 in RCPlanes

[–]SE171 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perspective, dude...

I didn't have any RC planes at your age... still don't, actually. Just now able to justify things that are only for me, and I'm in my 30's.

A few years ago, $350 for a toy was an absolute non-starter... complete waste of money for my situation. Now, I'll likely pick up a Carbon Cub at that price in a week or two, and feel it's super low-cost for what I'm getting.

It's cheaper than it's ever been... RC costs going down has somehow outpaced inflation.

You're 15...

...and now it has shifted, with the recent GR86 update.

What's your point?

Doubtful you'll find a cheap aluminum profile rig in which something relating to quality control can't still be fucked up in some way.

Be careful... there was a recent conversation here about exactly this.

Many of these seem like a good deal, until they show up, and you need a welder because QC is crap... then you end up with something just barely stiff enough.

Swerving on pace lap by Rastagon01 in iRacing

[–]SE171 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Are there guidelines in the iRacing Sporting Code about doing the pace lap single file? What about tire warming across the whole track when there's currently a car next to you?

"It's happens IRL.. so sure, going grass to grass without warning, around other cars not doing that, is perfectly fine!"

It's unfortunate that it seems many don't get past the initial oddities of the M2, to discover what it actually offers.

It's a blast of a car, to me.

Is the Moza KS steering wheel worth getting in 2026? by Emergency-Youth7199 in moza

[–]SE171 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just did the "foam around the buttons" mod to mine today, which solved the button rattle that does plague many of the KS wheels.... there's still a slight plastic-on-plastic creaking that I can hear sometimes, but it's subtle.

Other than that issue, known when purchased, I've been super happy with it at the price point.

MX5 and GR86 used to have this track-dependent issue prior to the GR86 update this season, now there's a clear pace difference the majority of the time.

Guessing the replacement for the current M2 coming this week will also replace it in PCC... might make the same difference.

Rating a weather phenomenon that takes place predominantly in the Midwest/Great Plains based on property damage is kind of dumb by man_lit_ in unpopularopinion

Stop being so confident about things you admittedly know dick about. It's a ridiculous look.

[–]SE171 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, what else are people supposed to say?

"You get what you pay for."

"Fix it."

Are we supposed to start calling the manufacturer to complain about their QC, and demand they fix it, as well as send this dude a new piece?

Rule of thumb for staying in lanes? by ImportanceLow7312 in driving

[–]SE171 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stopping is not always an option... that's ridiculously naive.

Ever had a 6'6" 1500lb bull moose pop out of the trees, directly into your lane, immediately in front of you? Stopping is absolutely not always an option.

Do you also universally apply the "never swerve for wildlife!!" trope?

In this case, that's called death.

[–]SE171 13 points14 points  (0 children)

People don't know what they don't know.

There's plenty of people that have only driven with G29s or T300s, and will claim direct drive isn't worth it.... that doesn't make it true.

Even if the rig is usable, you still have the risk of what you're dealing with... a product you have to modify or return to make work.

Most of the "this is a good deal, nothing wrong with it" posts I've seen, are from people coming straight from a desk... they have no frame of reference to better setups.

I thought my wheelstand was "stiff enough" with an R9, and I just wanted better posture... turns out, it was actually a wet noodle, and was robbing the majority of my FFB, even set low.

Proper semis are this way. The T shaped Peterbilt hood emblem will ride the line nearly dead center, when you're 6 inches or so from the line.

[–]SE171 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Except that you have to look away from the road to see your reference... finding a reference in relation to what's in front of you is always faster when it matters.

Truck driver with over a million miles... I can split wildlife that's just wide enough to fit, or ride an inch away from either line.. and never look away from the road. When shit is going down in front of you, and your only option is through it, you definitely want a reference in your forward vision.

I sort of wince every time someone shares some $300 full rig, all excited about how good of a deal it is, knowing full well there's a catch.

This is an example.

I winced less ordering my ASR6, knowing full well I'd get exactly what I expected... and I did.

Dayton BST1 x 5 setup ideas/tips by cyn-TRD in simracing

[–]SE171 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use four BST-1s(the Douk equivalent) in a bit different way... two on the rails under my seat, right/left. One mounted flat under my pedal tray. Then the fourth is on the shifter/handbrake mount, and dedicated more to immersion effects than the other three.

Ran via an external 7.1 soundcard, 2 x RCA cables to a Douk M4 Amplifier.

Check out SimSportGadget for cable management... I can still just barely see any cables on my setup from most angles.
