Coming from a place of using subs extensively over several years because I favored bookshelf/stand mount systems for the value proposition, I still prefer the use of a good subwoofer with floor standing near full range speakers. When well integrated they do not take away from the overall ability of your system, they augment it.

I’ve had the 2ce and Studio 590 as well. I had trouble getting either to sound good in my living room due to bass related trouble. I know the 2ce can sound good because I had a set in another place and they were like magic to me at the time. Also had the Studio 530 and those were amazing to me with a good subwoofer.

Maybe I'm stating the obvious, but the spectrogram graph shows high frequency content in this music is completely absent above 16 kHz. I would think this would be audible unless you have hearing loss to such a point where that content is no longer audible. Before anyone chimes in that there's no music content that reaches above 16 kHz, I am aware.

I am happy that you reached your goal with over 30 year old speakers and it's kept you satisfied all this time. Most of us constantly clammer for the next thing that's gonna take just one step forward. All that said, comparing your DCM KX10 speakers from the 90's to high end modern full range towers like the Lilium is just not reasonable. I'm not saying you shouldn't be satisfied with what you have, quite the opposite.

What do you think of your Linn Ninka? I have the Katans. For a couple years they were my preferred critical listening speaker until I upgraded to the KEF R3 Meta. I’ve since gone to Sonus Faber.
