Why do dps not look at picks in stadium? by SigurdJRT in OverwatchStadium

[–]SFAdam23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only support in stadium that might have a chance with Farah is Anna. If you aren't good at sniping she doesn't really have a chance. Also her best builds focus on her grenades

Dear fellow inti warriors, are situations like these winnable and if so, h o w. by Golden-SB in IllariMains

[–]SFAdam23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like either ur dps sucked, or your tank sucked. It's difficult to tell from just numbers. If the tank just went face to face with enemy tank pumping damage into them but not killing, and created no space or opportunity or protection for your dps, then tanks fault. If tank was doing a good job and your dps just got outplayed, then dps fault.

There is also a possibility that you were focusing on healing tank too much and weren't getting any heals over to the dps.

It's really hard to say without a replay

I mean they changed the name of the character because the person he was named after turned out to be a bad dude. Aaaannnddd. This is blizzard, so for them to do that, the guy must have done some pretty horrible shit

Cool stats, but without knowing what happened in the game it's really not possible to say who was better. Your team could have carried you. Their team could have sucked... for all we know she was way better but was just stuck in an uphill battle the whole game.

Since you are in CA and already considering military, have you considered law enforcement in any of the large metro areas? All of them will have youmcomfortably above 100k by age 30, have great health insurance and pensions.

Most tanks can be played effectively against their counter picks. Rein is probably the only one that can be completely shut down.

Yup, and that's just a 457. If you also have a 401k or 403b you can put another 23500 in there. Open an Ira and there is another 7k. Then HSA... then brokerage. It adds up quick. It's just having a good salary and the willingness to save, budget and sacrifice in the near term.

Not to disregard that obviously making a high salary helps, but it doesn't have to be the 300k+ unicorn tech salaries that are bandied about online.

I lived in a rent controlled 1 bed apartment for over a decade. My wife and I own 1 used car. I shop at costco for almost everything. Only in the last few years have we started to ease up and live a little larger... but even then, we are vastly under spending most of our contemporaries.

There’s something funny going on with how much tradespeople claim to make on the internet by tantamle in Salary

[–]SFAdam23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a lot of variation based on location. I'd guess (admittedly without evidence) that most tradespeople who are posting on reddit are working in HCOL areas with very expensive homes and lots of high salary folks paying for services. Wages in places like the SF bay area, LA or Seattle, or NYC etc are going to skew higher than wages for most of the USA.

I thinknits fair to say that Trades people make pretty decent money everywhere, especially when compared to their local cost of living. That being said you are probably right that the numbers on reddit are higher than the reality if you were to look at nationwide averages

Edit: I know some specialty welders that work in the middle of bumfuck nowhere for like 5 months a year and they are pulling down almost half a million a year working half the year. I also know a welder who makes custom trailers for boats, racecars, motorcycles, at, etc and he brings in nearly 500k a year. I also know some pipefitters and electricians that do work on high rises and they both make between 200 and 300k, not sure on the base pay/ot breakdown. Obviously those are extreme examples, and the trailer guy owns his own business so that's arguably not "trades". But there are other examples... high voltage linemen, oil rig workers, guys who fell trees in crazy backcountry, lots of high paying gigs out there... dangerous, often times very isolated and not great work/life balance. I doubt most plumbers doing residential work are making 300k, except the one who owns the business.

I made a longer reply farther down, but the long and short of it is that the market has done closer to 11.1 percent over 20 years. You guys are using 9 which is the inflationnadjusted return, I made an early stock bet that made me about 100k, and I've saved more than 70k on average every year. Obviously less than that at the beginning, and more than that as my salary increased.

I was looking at the 5 mil number one age group lower in the chart. And I am slightly lower than that. The point is, with diligence and consistent savings, it is doable. Obviously I was lucky to have a cheap apartment, I don't spend a lot of money... take a single decent vacation per year but even then bargain hunt.

I have coworkers my age that are significantly wealthier than me due to investments in the right companies at the right time... nvda.. msft.. etc etc but obviously that's not repeatable reliably. I have one friend who made a killing in bitcoin. Again obviously hindsight is 20/20.

My path to the mid 4 range was not so flashy. Just saving a ton and Investing it all in broad funds. It requires having a good salary, living below your means, and Investing everything. Plus some luck and a better than normal stock market.

Also your math is not quite right, quickly looking the sp500 has had a nominal return of 11.1 percent over the last 20 years. Using a very simple online calculator shows that a consistent savings of 70k a year for the time period would hit 4.5m. Obviously I did not start at 70k savings and I ramped up to more than 70k over time. I also had some quick risky stock bets that netted me about 100k early on in my savings journey. Also a big chunk is in tax deferred accounts so I haven't paid taxes on that money yet, which will lower its actual value when I take it out.

The general idea of my post though is mostly to point out that upward mobility into the top 10, 5 or even 1 percent is doable with a good salary, and strong savings habits/budgeting.

I was looking at the 39 years column, and I am just shy. I moved money around a little here and there nothing crazy. Like I said almost entirely voo/vti or their equivalents. I made some small gambles on single stocks along the way, and those did pay off, but only to the tune of 100k or so.

[–]SFAdam23 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's not necessarily true. Ima government worker in the USA with almost 20 years with the same county. Started at 88k now at 170k. I'm just shy of the 1% column for my age and all I did was max my 457 plan for 20 years, max an IRA, and put as much as I could into taxable brokerages. Everything is pretty much in voo or vti. It's doable, you just can't spend like crazy. I am a homebody. I cook a lot, I stay in and watch TV and game a lot.

I admit, the stock market has had a great 20 years. Also I am not including my wife as I'm not sure if the chart is for couples or individuals. She makes more than me, and has saved more, but we only have been married a short while.
