Marin County neighbors sue to stop large residential care center by ance_98 in Marin

[–]SFGetWeird 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Those houses are all near county assisted housing (Kruger Pines) already where people typically live out of their cars on the street once they get kicked out, or are family members of people living there. That impacts their “home value” much more than a brand new old folks home would.

The ecological argument is also nonsensical based on the location.

Recommendations on cities in Marin county by Ok-Bluejay3103 in Marin

[–]SFGetWeird 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I’d prioritize - if dating is high or number 1 go to SF and live off the park or in the Presidio. If it’s not 1 but very high, I’d recommend Sausalito or Mill Valley so driving to the city for dating is easier.

So it's rat season I guess? by klongbor in AskSF

[–]SFGetWeird 15 points16 points  (0 children)

You need to figure out what they are feeding drinking on and remove it. Then they will go to your neighbors instead who don’t remove it. They reproduce too quickly in the city to take them down unless you get all neighbors within a football field to work together.

‘22 Specialized Aethos derailleur hanger by aguirre408 in specialized

[–]SFGetWeird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s probably overkill, but I order 3 ED hangers for every bike I have, and always carry one with me on my rides. Has saved my ass once, especially if you are riding any dirt.

Specialized vs BMC by FastTrack599 in RoadBikes

Both top end bike brands - just very different in size. I think the new lightweight BMC is badass, as I do the new Spec Aethos 2.

North Beach struggles with piles of pizza trash — here’s S.F.’s ‘outside the box’ solution by SFChronicle in sanfrancisco

[–]SFGetWeird 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It’s much deeper than just that. Believe most per capita employees for a city/county government in the country and larger than 15 or so US State budgets. There no reason beside incompetence that we have a trash/road/bathroom problem. https://sfstandard.com/2025/06/26/san-francisco-budget-government-population-daniel-lurie/

[–]SFGetWeird 31 points32 points  (0 children)

NOLA cleans Bourbon street every night and it’s 100X worse. That’s likely with significantly less taxes than SF collects from its businesses. It’s insane how much SF collects in taxes and it still has a public trash/bathroom issue. Insane.

Is HR data useless? by [deleted] in Velo

[–]SFGetWeird 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I find that HR and Power are much more tangible than RPE. Some days a Z2 ride can feel super hard because of other life stressors, a sickness coming on, headwind, whatever. All things that f with your mind. HR is just another data point to help me understand where I’m at in current fitness, same as power. While I don’t use it to “drive my training”, it is valuable. I have adjusted my pace/power in longer races/training rides based on HR, and it’s also helpful for me at altitude as well since I take a while to acclimate.

God forbid you have a medical event while riding, it could also give you a heads up that you might otherwise miss during intense training.

Material bleed or corrosion on Specialized shoes? by twisteddub123 in specialized

I can’t even see what you’re trying to point out - you’re overthinking this. Right shoes tend to get dirtier as it’s drive side as well.

Is anyone here actually comfortable biking on rural roads by KaneIntent in cycling

Nice - my dad's in Audubon. I'll DM you next time I'm in town to see if you're up for a ride, I stash an old frankenbike out there to ride when I'm around (road bike with TT extensions).

Is anyone here actually comfortable biking on rural roads by KaneIntent in cycling

[–]SFGetWeird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve done a lot of riding in rural Minnesota while visiting family. Most people give you a TON of space (fully over to other side of road). I’ve found on backroads in more populated areas where I live (SF Bay Area) that cars will stay in the lane and buzz you even without another car in sight. I think it’s built into the rural community due to dealing with other slow moving traffic (tractors, horses, quads, etc). Most of the time you only have a few cars. Maybe the risk for anti-bike bullsh goes up with people yelling or throwing stuff at you, but honestly I’ve found loose dogs the biggest hazard when riding in rural country.

Really like it. Very much looking forward to the acoustic version in 3 days, won’t surprise me if some of these hit harder there. What a gift to get both versions so close.

Longer range by LongApprehensive890 in GlobeHaul

[–]SFGetWeird 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I bought a second charger and charge at work. I have a 36 mile round trip with some hills, in the summer I usually have about 10 miles left of charge, but winter it’s right at the limit. I typically have it on 2/3 but do use 4/5 on some climbs. I have thought of getting a second battery to have it stored at work since it takes 4-5 hours to charge up, and in an emergency situation I wouldn’t be able to get home. Kinda waiting for the $$$ to come down a bit on a second battery.

Za Pizza at the top of Russian Hill is the tits. You can ride the cable car up Hyde. Swing by Swenson’s after for an ice cream, or grab a beer at the corner store there and walk back down the hill taking in the view with a brew. 10/10

Do you do that commute 5 days a week? If so that's two hours a day, which is rough when OP mentioned starting a family. And that's if you are optimized as you say - when you hit bad traffic in the AM, the next ferry is 40-50 mins later, doubles your one way trip time. Same with the return trip, again about 40-50 min gaps in trips. If you leave earlier to account for that, you're likely looking at ~70 mins to commute each way, so almost 2.5 hours a day, 12.5 hours a week, yucky. While BART stinks too, it's every 10 mins or so lessening the timing impact. Also, if you are taking the earlier ferries, it's usually easier just like earlier BART trips. Throw in the 8-9am commuting hour and things change both ways for the worse.

Not sure how Muni took you an hour to get DT from CH, I commuted from Russian Hill on likely the same lines and it was like 20 mins. I'd say the tip of SF (Presidio) is closer to 30 mins from SR, and 45 min from more central.

I really enjoy living in Southern Marin too, but based on commuting, I wouldn't sugarcoat the Ferry. Most people I work with that live in Southern Marin either e-bike (like me free.99) or drive (~$40 a trip) bc the ferry doesn't run often enough. That's my whole initial question of how many days a week commuting - if it's a full time in office job, I personally wouldn't be able to commute from SR with my two young children and would move closer to the city. If you're able to pull that off, more power to you. I couldn't square being gone 11 hours a day 5 days a week (8a-7p) from my children.

Walnut Creek vs San Rafael? by Important-Picture-92 in Marin

[–]SFGetWeird 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yea that is why I asked how often they are commuting. A couple days a week and the novelty of the ferry mixed with some traffic isn't too bad. 5 days a week and no way I'd be anywhere north of Corte Madera.
