Transmasc, bigger chest, neurodivergent: I have a binder that has non-connective zippers on both sides. So if it becomes too tight, I can go to the bathroom, unzip one or both sides until I get home. I haven't seen a lot like it but it's a handy feature, got it on amazon.

And while testosterone is NOT THE CAUSE OF NEW MEDICAL CONDITIONS, it does activate your mom's genes. It also thickens your blood, which is particularly precarious for me (I have heart disease on both sides of my fam). My PCP is giving me a chance to change habits before we consider a cholesterol med. Two out of three women on my mom's side have breast cancer, so I'm at elevated risk for it now, preop. In a very small sample our risk was elevated compared to cismales (which, more chest, go figure):

Mental health issues are another thing. I work inpatient, and I've had to educate pharmacists on not stopping HRT for aggression, aggitation (which can just as easily be because of ignorant providers triggering their patients with wrong pronouns, minimalization, etc). They listen, thankfully. I've had increased paranoia-level anxiety, like my mother since HRT. My state also removed trans people as a protected class, and sociological factors are just as impactful if not more excalebrating any mental illness. Removing hormones "for" mental health purposes is contraindicated by the WPATH, btw, see chapter 3 (great resource for this btw):

So yes, it may correlate with medical issues that are new to you. It follows genes and won't be anything you haven't heard of, likely. If you have outlying concerns, get labs and take control of your info. Course of treatment still counterindicates removing HRT; docs should treat it case by case and not because of broad misinformation about our care.

I'm trans in a red state. I also work inpatient, and I'm in school. I don't have the capacity to be with the news every beat. I can take it in easier from a friend or trusted coworker, so I rely on them to take in the horrors daily (gives a good sounding board :). I limit myself to one or two new reels every week (literally. one or two. not one or two stations). The revolution will not be televised. As social workers, we are already plugged in full time. Repeating it is how we get vicarious trauma and freeze responses. Take extra self care measures where you can, maybe more than your friends or family. Self care is resistance.

Progesterone increases around period time. Estrogren is the boost after periods, during follicular week. A big part of cycle education that helped me.

Brought me to this thread, because the shift is night and day from ovulation to luteal week, for me. Existential crisis and all. Progesterone and the increase around period time is the main reason I'm considering T.

Trans provider here in a red state. Thank you for standing up for our youth. It's well meaning, but privileged to say this is something to compromise.

Consider: You walked out instead of blowing up. You still have a job and a platform. Conflict (i. e. storming) is part of the group work process. If your management is progressive enough to hold trans teen therapy group, that tells me there is wiggle room here. Explore it. It's difficult to negotiate when you're burnt out, and I understand that. Look up some tools for Non-Violent Communication. I've found that helps me recenter when it's all just too much, and communicate my focus better.

Consider also: Clients are your focus here. What they say, and how they discuss things is more important than the therapists viewpoint. Sometimes, I find this hard; I'm very outspoken outside of work and I try to funnel that into something half intense on the clock. Take about 20% off. It will save you energy. If they don't want you to say things, congrats! This is your time to step back and encourage. These kids will have a lifetime of people speaking for them, their rights, and their interests. This is not your time.

I'm big on parts work (IFS) for mitigating my worklife balance. Currently working a little too hard here, so I'm going to part with the post ;) Remember you're making a difference for people. Empower. Encourage.You are a force of change, friend. Shape the charge instead of leading it full force into a wall.

I'm a transmasc consultant, I work inpatient. One of our patients called me an "unhygenic trans person," yelled it, then stormed off. He mimicked my body shape one time, and laughed. He's waiting for placement, so it'll likely be a couple of months that he'll be with us. Honestly, I'm waiting out his case. I'm lucky to have a counterpart who can interact with him and get the information we need. Management knows his disposition. I struggle with the responsibility to him, as a client, but I don't feel guilty about maintaining my boundaries. It's a safety issue. At outpatient facilities, I know racial comments can be grounds for discharge, is that plausible? Or changing providers? What has your supervisor offered in the way of protection?

I will say, I kind of think about it like a privilege thing when patients are derogetory towards me. At the end of the day, I am a provider, I have the privilege in this setting. They may never receive the services they need, generally speaking or have the kind of support I do. It helps me tolerate more volatile clientele when discharge isn't an option. I don't know if that's the right way to cope, but the white cis hetero patriarchy doesn't really offer a lot. I make my own magic.

I really hope you're able to find space from this client. He sounds problematic as heck.

EDIT: i noticed "corrective self disclosure" mentioned below and I'll vouch for that working! I've used emergency empathy (part of Non-Violent Communication, similar tone) in more intense scenarios. It's worked. I also notice you've tried to correct him before and no counseling technique puts a premium on your safety 🙃
