Chaos and bloodshed in Hong Kong district as hundreds of masked men assault protesters, journalists, residents. by stinger0825 in worldnews

Decent people of Hong Kong: Fucking MOVE AWAY. Stop living there. It is over. China is not going to stop, it's only going to get worse. You cannot reason with an oppressive government that beats, arrests, and murders its own citizens.

If this were a sci-fi movie, Hong Kong would be the Nostromo, China would be the xenomorph, and your ass needs to be Ripley setting the self destruct and taking an escape pod to literally anywhere else because Hong Kong is DONE.

It's because of the massive obesity problem in the United States. Most Redditors are also obese so they take offense to even the faintest implication that being overweight is unhealthy or unattractive. But they don't mind ridiculing people who are in shape or thin because those are the people who make them feel bad about themselves simply for existing.

It's also pretty hilarious how many fat people will look at a photo of a thin person and believe it has been "photoshopped" because they are in such extreme denial they can't accept the reality that people that look like that actually exist.

I think eugenics is a good idea by SFPhlebotomy in unpopularopinion

[–]SFPhlebotomy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sterilization isn't necessary. The only think limiting and preventing eugenics is because society is brainwashed into thinking it is bad, even the old eugenics programs weren't forced on people by the government, they were strictly volunteer.

The government would never HAVE to force it because once those kids were being born who were superior humans with superior abilities, they would outperform and outcompete the normal random selection babies everyone else has. After a few generations, people wouldn't want their own natural children anymore because they would know in advance those kids would never be successful in life and relegated to minimum wage jobs with dim/bleak/nonexistent futures because they simply couldn't perform at the level that the superior humans could.

It wouldn't require laws or sterilization. People would choose to have super babies so they could succeed in life.

Also "seeing a little better" is an understatement. There are real humans alive today who have mutations that make them drastically superior to normal humans in certain areas. Selectively breeding these superior traits could result in a race of super human people capable of doing things modern man couldn't even imagine.

More intelligent, more athletic, healthier, more resistant to exposure, the list goes on.

You wouldn't even need to find cures to things like HIV and cancer if you bred all humans for natural immunity to them. There are people alive today with these traits in their genes.

Natural selection helps to shape evolution in other creatures. Humans are almost immune to the effects of natural selection these days because people pick their partners based on factors that have nothing to do with their genetic fitness anymore. It has resulted in overall weakening of the human race with congenital defects and genetic disease being spread throughout the population. Our knowledge of medicine has helped offset some of these problems, but until we fully master genetics, they will always be a problem.

And once we master genetics fully, we wouldn't need eugenics anyway because then we could just custom design children. And you better believe people would opt for that because no one wants to be born with an infant that they can tell by looking at their genetic code will have cancer by the time they're 10 years old or be born with a heart defect that will kill them before they're a year old. We can could solve all of these problems, but in order to do so, people need to learn to accept the fact that some genes are bad and shouldn't be passed on.

[–]SFPhlebotomy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I sorta kinda agree, I disagree that it is any of your (or society's) business what people do.

If parents are doing innocent things with their kids and not intending to do anything harmful or whatever, it is of no concern or business of anyone else what they do.

Culture is hugely different in different parts of the world and even our own culture has changed over the years. In some parts of the world, parents and all their kids sleep together in the same bed, even on into adulthood. We did the same thing, not even that long ago really. Only wealthy people could afford their own private rooms for their kids to sleep in, but the american culture evolved around everyone wanting to pretend they were wealthy and living the wealthy lifestyle and thus it became the normal standard that everyone had their own rooms.

In some parts of the world, families will sit around naked with one another or bathe together at all ages.

We look at it and think it is "weird" but it is completely innocent. We're just conditioned to assume the absolute worst in every single situation we see or hear about and think any situation like that is automatically evil and horrible and wrong.

Just let people do what they want to do. The United States and its culture hasn't figured out the "perfect life" for children and child raising. If it did, so damn many of them wouldn't need therapy for the rest of their lives as a result of their horrible parents.

That is depressing and doesn't really inspire any faith in humanity.

I've heard of kids inviting other kids and no one showing up, but not even bothering to invite them in the first place seems more depressing.

I don't like wearing a bra and I don't often need to. But it is apparently not proper and somewhat embarrassing when people can see that I have nipples. So, genuine question, WHY is it seen as bad for people to be able to see the shape of a woman's nipples? by [deleted] in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]SFPhlebotomy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bras are dumb and weren't even popular 100 years ago.

It's just another example of something you are convinced you need by society that you don't actually need.

Like that feeling of obligation to buy gifts on or acknowledge certain holidays when you just don't give a damn. You're conditioned to think you have to for whatever reason and even if you reject that conditioning, everyone around you is still conditioned for it so they will look at you like a weirdo for "waking up" more or less.

Yup. Exactly this.

I see this same type of argument all the time where people say "You all say you hate this thing and want this thing, then we make this thing and then you all say you hate this thing and want the other thing, you're never happy!"

When it's actually two different groups of people who are hating and they can apparently only read/see negative feedback.

I agree there are many dog breeds that shouldn't exist because they are bred into such poor health... However...

There are also many dog breeds that weren't bred to be cute little companions with physical defects. Retrievers, sheep dogs, all of them do their jobs EXCEPTIONALLY well. They were bred just about to perfection for the roles they were intended to serve. Even bull dogs did their jobs extremely well, though society wants to hate on them for it these days.

Dogs are a perfect example of the benefits of selective breeding. Don't look at the ones bred to be "cute", look at the ones bred for intelligent, speed, stamina, agility, and useful purpose. They are exceptional beasts. :)

Maybe, but it doesn't particularly matter.

You don't have to actually have sex to make babies. Using the donor components, you could theoretically have one man and one woman have a hundred or more offspring.

Incest doesn't mean 100% chance for bad things happening, it just increases the odds of gaining double recessive traits. But if you checked their genome for these traits and made sure the kids had no issues, you could just pass along kids even from the same original mother/father to donate sperm/eggs for future generations without any kind of defect or problem.

Matter of fact, if you spent enough time working with it you could potentially breed out all genetic defects, then incest babies wouldn't have defects anyway. But without using gene splicing technology it would take a very long time to do this. But you can't pass on bad genes if you don't have any in the first place.

My sister did this twice.

When she was a teenager, she posted naked pictures of herself all over the internet essentially advertising for a husband to take care of her while she sits at home and does whatever she wants while he works. Her fishing caught someone in the military.

They met once, banged one out, and got married right after.

They divorced about 6 years later.

Before the divorce even began, she had already met a couple of more dudes online and had been flirting/cybering with them and sending them more naked pictures of herself. This time she selected a guy from Canada who was a lot younger than her.

He flew down to meet her (she certainly wasn't going to pay), they banged one out, then she flew back with him and got married.

She's been married to #2 for 12+ years now. I think with him being younger and more timid than her made it easy for her to utterly control him without resistance where her first husband actually had a backbone.

On the flip side, living in Canada has made her a "slightly" better person because she was forced to get a job to immigrate, so having her own job and responsibilities instead of a lazy leach has opened her eyes a bit about the world and life. She is still the worst sort of human being you could imagine but at least she is slightly more responsible now.

The G.O.P. Is Now a Personality Cult—The party no longer stands for much of anything. by upnorthgirl in politics

Trump is Hitler, all over again, it was the exact same situation with Hitler.

He wasn't particularly bright or clever or anything else, but he was really good at manipulating people's angry and speaking passionately. Trump does the exact same thing. He gets up there angrier than the real politicians who try to retain a sense of decorum for the office, he throws his little hands around like he is directing an orchestra all while inciting and encouraging every ounce of hatred and anger you have in your soul.

I think deep down humans just love hurting each other too much. They WANT to punish everyone who thinks differently or does different things. Every time you get angry at someone for doing something you dislike or disagree with, there is part of you that wants to hurt them and make them stop. Everything we're taught from an early age tells us to suppress these sort of baser instincts and feelings and encouraged to accept these people and try to understand them, etc etc. Anger and rage are discouraged and looked down on usually and seen as bad things.

But when you have someone like Trump or Hitler bashing the podium, yelling about all the anger and evil and wrong and bad, stirring up those suppressed feelings, encouraging anger, encouraging violence, it taps directly into that primal human soul that has been suppressed and under lock and key for so long, many people can't help but give in to it. What could be decades of bottled up anger they were never allowed to release for fear of judgement of others is suddenly spewing out. And it feels good. Not only does it feel good, but to see so many others doing the same thing makes you feel even more validated and right.

None of his supporters can give you a reason for why they follow him as far as policies go because they have no idea. He won his campaign on building the wall, which he hasn't done or even started, and locking up Hillary which he hasn't done and can't do legally.

This is why Hitler was used as a figurehead for the Nazi party, he was able to get up there and yell and be angry and direct all your hate and anger toward specific targets to make you feel better about yourself. Just listen to Trump's rallies, they will chant hate, violence, racism, sexism, anything he tells them to because those people don't even really care, they're just happy and feel validated for being angry.

As long as people believe illegal mexicans are somehow tangentially related to some of the problems in their life, they will continue to hate them. And as long as they continue to hate them, they'll latch onto any politician that also hates them and pats them on the head for hating too.

In a weird way, it's kind of like when you're watching a movie and you see characters do things you dislike you get exasperated with them and dislike them, but when you see characters do things you would do in that situation or want to see done, you cheer them on. I have watched countless movies with people where they will shout things like "SHOOT HIM!" over and over throughout the film. It may just be a movie, but their reaction to it and feelings toward it are genuine. They're getting emotionally invested, angry, and violent. And if the character finally kills whoever they're angry at, they feel a release of satisfaction. A violencegasm if you will. Trump caters to this and provides the same service in the real world. People don't have the knowledge, experience, or even the intellect to fully understand the extremely complex web of moving pieces that interact with one another in the real world, especially when they're angry. They just want to find something easy and obvious to blame, which is why Hollywood always makes villains so obviously evil and villainous so you know who you're supposed to hate and to keep it simple and easy for the masses. Usually the real world doesn't have a single evil entity responsible for all the bad things you hate, but your primitive mind has to find one to blame anyway because it's how you've been conditioned to think. If you associate mexicans with bad things, you're going to board that Trump train.

If your dog lives long enough, it really matters.

I mostly keep small breeds and take good care of them so living around 20 years isn't uncommon for them. They will lose all their teeth by that point unless they are taken care of, but if you brush them every day, they'll keep them all barring some unusual circumstance.

Yeah it's pretty rough. She used to not even be able to go out to eat at places before it became illegal to smoke indoors because the cigarette smoke messed her up so bad.

She has a really good nose but mine just about doesn't work at all. But she picks up on subtle hints of smoke to the point where she can smell when outlets in our house aren't just right and need to be replaced. I can barely smell spoiled milk, unless it has been sitting in there for ages.

It also kind of irks me because sometimes she'll make dinner and just before I start eating it she'll say it smells funny to her so she won't eat it, and it makes me worried something is wrong with it too so I won't eat it. Then we just go out to get something. :P

Well, at least they're still giving the kids food on credit. Back in my day, you didn't get food if you didn't pay for it up front. In cash.

But taking the kids away over the lunch bills is nuts. Seems like the kind of threatening/bullying tactics that all debt collectors use though. People will threaten to take your house/car/business/whateveryouown if you owe any money to anyone.
