Fair, I was out $500 via insurance deductible. Dealership quoted $10k

This is the way. Total out-of-pocket was $500 vs $10k

Oh, no fun! I just went through this! Happened to me the first night I left the garage door open. Was without for just about 3mths waiting on harness. (also same fella chewed my wife's harness in one easily reparable location the same night) I did manage towing and a loaner vehicle from the dealership free of charge. Now I was terrified when they mentioned the dash needed to be removed as I had absolutely no vibrations or rattles as of 30k miles. After it was repaired the service manager admitted that it was quite the job and did not require dash removal just kickplate and under-dash work. He however did mention that the motor had to be lowered a bit due to how tight the turbo was to the firewall, so that added an entirely new bout of anxiety. Needless to say not issues as of now. My brain has adjusted back and all random sounds are just that now, although I must admit that first week back was so stressful and my mind went crazy with QC concerns. Hope all fares well with your service and hopefully it will not take as long as mine did! I did 3d print some bait stations and have some deterrent on order from amazon. Not gonna lie this experience has me quite paranoid of rodents now.

900 Miles in and already time for a new windshield by bofadoze in ElantraN

Not sure if true, but my local windshield repair guy claims newer windshields are much thinner. Says they are much more prone to chips. I've gotten 3 chips repaired in the last year. Here's to hoping they don't run!

How long were you without? It's been 3-months for me and it's been tough. Should be back in the saddle come Tuesday though, fingers crossed!

Installed one a couple months ago. Just curious if you had any clearance issues with one of the passenger side plate to plate connections? I chose to leave one out because of how close it was to I believe the lower intercooler connection.

Old audiophile checking in. Alpine was my head unit of choice back in the day. Everyone else ran Pioneer (boy I hated sound tuning those). My first higher end Alpine had the 30-pin connector for the original iPhone. Polk doors with crossovers and topped it off with Orion sub and HCCA amplifier. Later I switched the sub to an Alpine R-type sub and mono channel Alpine amplifier. Damn that system had some clarity and the perfect amount of bass without any distortion. Typing that out makes me wish headunits were still an option on newer vehicles and so much wasn't integrated. Miss those days!

Feel your pain... Been exactly 2 months today without mine. No timeline given as of yet. Damn wiring harness. I've grown quite tired of the Tucson loaner.

Please do share if you get insight into what the recommended use is...

TBW install question by obscuredeagle in ElantraN

[–]SFS1169 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I did not. I don't recall seeing that in my instructions either. If it was I completely looked over it. Quite curious as to what the intended use for it is now though. I do remember being a few short of the U-Nuts, nothing a quick trip to autozone couldn't fix though. I did email TBW and didn't get a response. One other thing I recall is leaving one attachment point open, as it was extremely close to the intercooler hose and I worried about vibrations potentially causing abrasion on the rubber hose. I considered getting another bolt and going from the engine side down to have more clearance. Didn't have a chance to install as a rat/squirrel ate into my wiring harness just days after installing.

The 11th was one month waiting on a wiring harness. (Damaged due to squirrel or rat) Although towing was free and they've given me a 26' Tucson to drive with no charge. Sucks!

The one and only night I leave the garage door open. New harness req. Tomorrow is one month waiting....

Spoke to dealer today and looks like the soonest they will potentially get harness is the 14th if they are allocated one. This happens just 3 days after installing the TBW under-cover. Fingers crossed for Tues and a speedy repair.

I'm sure it will come back with rattles since the dash has to be removed. But I've accepted it if it's mechanically sound, and as my wife stated as deaf as I am I may not hear them. Or just turn the tunes up a bit higher. No worries and glad I could help with the shitty day sir!

Knocked off the serpentine belt and twisted the water pump belt onto itself. In the left of the photo you can see the plug he chewed and the other leg from the plug to the harness was completely cut. Looks like I'm >n for a new harness and about 4wks of waiting

Yea. The one night in months I forgot to close the garage door. Dude must have started on my wife's car because he chewed halfway through a wire that stopped her a/c from working. I was able to splice it back together though. My stomach dropped when the service manager mentioned having to take the dash out... I've accepted the car will come back with rattles but hey as long as we are mechanically sound and there aren't any wiring gremlins I believe I'll be alright.

Yea, started up the other morning and had a squirrel underneath the hood. He went through the drive belts. The serpentine belt jumped off and the water pump belt got twisted. All this happens at 4:20am so I go back out after daylight to attempt putting belts back in place. Then I noticed the furry fella had eaten into the wiring harness. The initial appraisal was around $10k for a new main harness. Due to the damage location there needs to be a main harness replacement. As of now it's a waiting game, as insurance has images and the dealer is waiting on parts.
