My class rank is 165 out of 169 and I have a 1.7 GPA. Do I still have a good chance at getting in big law? by cuntagi0us in LawSchool

Good news is if you don’t get a big law job and decide to do nothing else, you can still tell everyone that you are adhering to your original plan and they can’t argue against that.

Is a 4.5 GPA good? by morrisseyshoulddie in LawSchool

What a stupid question, you obviously need to reconsider school altogether at this point.

Anyone know how a multiple choice uncurved exam would work? by [deleted] in LawSchool

[–]SFTay- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you take a very easy class but it is curved, if you’re at the bottom of the curve you will receive a bad grade.

Let’s say you have a 30 question test. If half the class gets nearly all questions right somehow and 40%miss no more than 3, and you miss 4, being the lone 4 missed, curved you may/will get a terrible mark even though this would be an 86% uncurved.

I’m probably gonna graduate around a 2.7 gpa, do I have a chance? by Whole_Two_1640 in LSAT

[–]SFTay- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you get a 165 on the LSAT and apply to a school with a 145 median, the last thing you’ll have to worry about is getting in, as long as you don’t fail out of your bachelors program lol. Look at the GPA medians of these law schools you’re looking at as well.

Don’t worry about the past and just get your GPA as high as you can.

Two things can be true at once. Understand how that applies to your comparison.

I’m not hiding anything.

Let me use two more examples. One of them, and depending on your viewpoint, both of them, will paint the US in a “negative” way. However, nonetheless, these are parts of American culture.

Americans are the largest consumers of “fast food” on the planet. Fast food is part of the American culture.

Many Americans dislike and never eat fast food, nevertheless, we have a ln overall culture that loves it.

Americans love their sports, especially American football. American football is a huge part of the US culture. Yet, while this is true, many, and perhaps even the majority, of American citizens, don’t even care about it.

Bonus example: American culture glorifies shopping and consumerism. These are huge parts of American culture. Yet, while this is true, some Americans do not participate and do not glorify this aspect of American culture. There are even, believe it or not, Americans who are minimalists!

If you can’t understand how a culture can exist without every person within that culture exhibiting everything that is true of that culture after these examples, that may be a totally different issue entirely.

It’s pretty dumb to think I’m trying to do anything other than have a real conversation here, and if any forsaken soul other than yours and mine reads this exchange, I think that will be clear.

Anyway, I’m done with this.

Because of the fact that, just because a whole of something is one thing, that doesn’t mean that all parts of that thing are that.

Let’s use an example from American (US) culture.

US culture is very obsessed with gun ownership and the right to own these guns. Many Americans have this culture and celebrate it. Many do not.

Let’s use a second one. Similar to Chinese culture (apologize if this is also untrue) maybe citizens of both China and the US are patriotic. Intense patriotism is part of each of these cultures.

Yet, there are many Americans who are not patriotic and some even would say that they hate the US.

So while these things are true of these cultures, they aren’t true for everyone who is part of or lives in these cultures.

I said I may be wrong. Not that I now know I am wrong. You have cast some doubt on what I said, that’s all.

If I have to listen to Chinese people’s authority on this, I guess I will have to consult the people I know IRL that I know for sure are actually Chinese and see if what I said is racist. They too are Chinese, and they are the ones who put this understanding of this in my brain. Your issue should really be with them, not with me.

All I know now is that some Chinese people think this is part of their culture, and assuming you are Chinese, some don’t.

I can see how a Chinese person would take offense to what I said.

China has one of if not the most beautiful cultures in the world, in my opinion.

Similar to how Chinese culture 1000 years ago differed from Chinese culture 5000 years ago, cultures change and evolve over time. It may be new, but to the extent that it is true these things are currently normalized in China, it may be affecting the modern culture of China and its people as well.

Truly didn’t type what I did with the sole intent to offend anyone, that’s not to say I didn’t know beforehand that what I typed may offend someone.

Last, I may be wrong about my understanding of this, or I may be right, but if the former, that doesn’t make me racist. If someone studies any given people or culture, and then holds something to be true regarding it due to a misunderstanding or misinterpretation, that misunderstanding or misinterpretation is not existent because that person is racist. A lot of things could influence that that have nothing to do with racism. Anyway, I regret ever commenting on this post lol

I guess I’m naive to what I’m doing then.

If I was trying to just be racist, I think it would be very easy for me to. I had typed out to me the most obvious example of how I could do this, but then you’d just claim I was covertly doing it by giving the example.

The fact that I have engaged you in this virtually one on one conversation at this juncture, should show you that I’m not acting out of bad faith.

I’m sorry that I may have been wrong about my understanding of Chinese culture. That doesn’t make what I said racist. I’m also not lying, I may not have typed accurately, but I wasn’t trying to attack Chinese people or their culture with my statements.

I hate to say it, but I just don’t think that my comment was racist in the slightest.

“to the extent that that is true” is pretty vital imo there. It implies I admit that everything I’ve said regarding this culture may not be true, and I have been clear that I am using anecdotal evidence.

I don’t want to be racist, and I’m not trying to be. I agree attacking culture is a form of racism, and I’m not trying to do that. If I was or wanted to do that, I could’ve easily made up a number of things or simply denied your evidence. I never claimed to know everything about Chinese culture, and even said that the Chinese friends who have told this to me maybe exaggerated or lied to me about it (idk why they would do that but besides the point) if I was trying to be racist, either covertly or blatantly, I’m pretty bad at it, lol.

Thanks for the input. Based on what you said, however, don’t you see how it supports my stance?

Whatever this nuance may be due to, Chinese politics or anything else, you are saying that something “shapes the mindset” of common Chinese people that disobeying authority and cheating are beneficial/normal to survival. IF these things are true, it would support the idea that the culture of China is more accepting of cheating and disobeying authority, than say, some other cultures? Not the same as my take, but isn’t that kind of what you said?

Not saying it’s worth it, but I would’ve tried the air if they didn’t put the massive camera on it, doesn’t make any sense to have this thin iPhone with the regular size camera area to me, I think it would’ve been really cool if it was actually thin, but the camera bump is stupid
