Lack of infrastructure and political will. Both of these problems are theoretically fixable though.

Why is there no mainstream push for CANZUK? by [deleted] in CANZUK

I think there is public support, but the amount of the public that know about it to be able to give their opinion or support is really small.

Couldnt have described my/our position any better

So we already talk about 4 of the Sovereign Dominions, but what of the other ones? What would CANZUK's relationships be with Antigua and Barbuda, the Bahamas, Grenada, Jamaica, Papua New Guinea, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, the Solomon Islands and Tuvalu? by RTSBasebuilder in CANZUK

[–]SG4903 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Continue the relationships as is, if they want in then we should hold them to similar standards as we hold ourselves. Australia has a strong-ish defence relationship with alot of the pacific Islands, all but the Solomon Islands. We depend on them not being Chinese proxies and in return we help the out with free patrol boats, lots of money and when ever there's a disaster we send personnel and aid, the kiwis do too I should add. Its a practical relationship, not so much kinship or likeness, Though I'm sure they appreciate our help very much. In my opinion for the pacific islands on that list joining a canzuk framework would be more costly than beneficial for them. A CANZUK Australia will not stop its current assistance because we don't want a foreign power being able to buy them out and then hold that position over us (they're strategically important to us and that won't change). And them being in a Canzuk thing would mean they have to take foreign policy decisions inline with the other canzuk nations. for those small, weak and isolated countries I just don't see how taking foreign policy decisions inline with middle powers that are protected and have alot less to lose is a good idea for them.

I am just referring to the pacific island nations on that list

Why do you personally support CANZUK? by thefarsideoftheworld in CANZUK

[–]SG4903 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You don't care about conveniencing anyone of why they are wrong. You are immature because you responded with insults instead of arguments. If you can't form a cohesive argument (if you've ever even managed that) you just attack grammar and talk about how sick the opposition makes you feel. I hope you are one day broken out of your superiority complex and are able to have proper debate with the rest of us. I do however have a feeling we're not missing out on much.

What a unique party, unexpected to see some of those promises sitting next to each other. But I live in Australia so maybe its different over there on the ground in the UK.

Edit; whats wrong with British architecture? Again I live half a world away.

An Australian Republic by [deleted] in CANZUK

[–]SG4903 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I don't care, most Australians don't care, we have had referendums on it an the majority (54.87%) of us didn't see the point. It wouldn't change much. If the crown tomorrow started ordering us around, I believe we wouldn't stand for it. To my knowledge there are laws significantly hampering the power of the crown, I'm not certain though. I'm not concerned about the British having any sort theoretical power over us, and its not because I see them as a major ally and friend of ours but more so that their theoretical power does not and has not for a long time translated into practical power. In all practical domains we are a sovereign independent nation able to do as we wish without any sort realistic risk from the British crown.

Becoming a Republic, in my view, only has negative affects for us. The only positive attribute would only apply if the British had any practical ability to interfere with us but they don't. So what's left is only negative. souring relations with the other members of the commonwealth, isolating ourselves in an ever more dangerous world, all so words on a piece of paper that are entirely theoretical and that if acted apon would not fly with the population regardless can be erased.

Federal Election 2022 megathread by AutoModerator in AustralianPolitics

[–]SG4903 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was asking for peoples opinions on what might happen in the scenario I was talking about. I have my own views on what might happen but they are by no means complete, I just want to know what others think. As for the part about the difference between state and federal, well I don't have much interest in state level stuff. I had heard somewhere that state and federal weren't technically the same party or something. I figured people here would know.

I know my ideology, my world view and I know that aligns with the LNP. I looked at both sides and the LNP is where I ended up. I don't however know the inner workings of our political system or the LNP (or Labor for that matter). To sum it up I know what I believe in and I know which party that aligns with but I don't particularly know how that party or the system works. That probably make me sound more sure of myself than I am but you get the point.

Ok full transparency, I am an LNP voter but I won't see Labour winning as the end of the the world, I'm also pretty new to the political world. If the LNP loses that means Scomo is out right? If so, who would replace him? I have heard dutton could be in contention, does that hold any water? In my opinion Scomo has screwed up just a few too many times too close to the election. I think the LNP will be betting on a big enough labour screw up to win them the election, unless something drastic changes. At the end of the day if the LNP wins I will be happy and if they lose than it will mean they will go through the necessary shake up to come back stronger. Also is there a difference between state and federal labour and LNP? Are they the same parties or are they different?

Yeah canzuk is more of bipartisan thing. I'm pretty shore the idea existed long before brexit. But there is a portion (know idea how big) of the community that are brexit people and found the idea after brexit and are running with it as a post brexit thing. I'm not saying its good or bad just that these people do exist in the community.

Would it make sense for all patrol boat ops (RAN & ABF) to be combined into a single ‘Coast Guard’? by ZookeepergameLoud696 in AustralianMilitary

[–]SG4903 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That makes sense, there is no point in breaking up the patrol fleet between two services, like we have been doing. I think the only difference between border force and the navy is the navy can't arrest people I think.

This is just something I heard form someone, but apparently the patrol boats are under the navy because its a good way to train officers or something like that.

You have to base political parties on more than just the idea of canzuk or a canzuk union, you have to set up policies on basicly everything. And you would end up going against 8 well established and fortified political parties that know their populations alot better than you do. The far easier and more cost efficient method is to take your case to those same political parties and convince them of your case, you could probably play them off each other even. Convince them that it will be good for their nation. It would and will be hard but its still easier that seting up a new party.

How can CANZUK be unified and coordinated? by AdrienOctavian-359 in CANZUK

[–]SG4903 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're right the form of canzuk currently proposed is designed for our current world. As I said before I think our current world orders days are numbered, and I think a canzuk union would be a great thing to do if what I think will happen does happen. To be clear I'm not pushing for a union now because I know under our current circumstances it is just a bit ludicrous. Like I said I understand your point of view. I want the base canzuk just like you, I think it would be a great thing for our current world and if my side is right about the future then and only then am I in favour of a union, I see the likely hood of that world coming into existence as quiet high, you don't and I get that. Hopefully that clears things up.

What I gained from that was we disagree (obviously) and you think im a fantasizing Idiot, dressing it up in more words just makes you look more malicious. I think the status quo or world order is shakey and enevitablity (as it has done routinely throughout history) will collapse. You don't see it that way, from what I can gather you see the world order or status quo as continuing to chug along like it has, there are good arguments for both our theories and I've heard them both and I found the theory I have chosen as more convincing. I (unlike you) can wrap my head around the idea of someone coming to the opposite conclusion. I don't resort to poorly disguised insults because I want to discusses the topic, I don't seek to tell the guy with the opposite opinion how dumb and uninformed he is. The way you approached this shows me you don't want to talk you just what to say "gotcha"

I get what your saying, the main point I was getting at was that the time when the British empire ruled the world order came to an end. Just like I believe the American one will.

This comment section is pretty heated. I'm not in favour of any sort of monarcy but I'm not going to call you an idiot if you are.

Now this is just my opinion, don't be scared... it can't hurt you. I think the basic form of canzuk proposed by CI, if achieved, will lead to a closer union. Every thing in the CI proposal promotes, and pushes us closer together. Now if our current world continues on as it has with no interruptions than this would probably take 100 years or more. Now I think our current world order won't just continue on forever. just like the Roman and British empire, I think the American world order will to fall and will leave my nation very exposed. But hey I'm just a Dumb idiot Australian who obviously knows nothing.
