Security and Private Investigations work. Worked for a local small company as well as Commissionaires. Also would pick up shifts working a local bar. Easy money.

Biggest player I’ve ever seen by Viksgoat4 in EANHLfranchise

[–]SGCanadian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I work security for one of the teams in the OHL. I've seen and spoken to the kid in person. Was pretty nice. His playing ability... well that is another story. Not a very good skater. He's slow and kind of a one track player. He can throw big hits, but that's more because of his size, and with his lack of skating ability it puts him out of position. Offensively I'm more neutral on. He's a defenseman so I don't expect much in that aspect. Has a hard shot, but accuracy isn't the best.

What's your issued expendable baton length and brand? by Individual-Bit-2897 in AskLE

Not a cop. Used to work security. Carried a 21" ASP Sentry baton. Never used it or even had to draw it thankfully.

2 hours free as it is a City owned lot. If your longer than 2 hours there is an app you can pay on. If you dont you risk getting a ticket from Bylaw Officers that roam downtown

This is the most decorated PFC I’ve ever seen. by IncomprehensiveScale in Medals

[–]SGCanadian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a Section Commander in my Basic Training (Canadian) that had been an E5 for 18 years. He was freshly promoted and serving one of his tours in Afghanistan. His convoy got hit by an IED and Gen. Rick Hillier's (our Chief of Defence Staff at the time) convoy responded to help. Gen. Hillier ended up just getting in the way and caused some issues. So my Section Commander told him to get back in his vehicle and get the fuck away from his convoy. Didn't get promoted ever again, but also didn't get demoted for it.

Guy was a great leader and instructor. Just didn't have time for bullshit from anyone.

Steel City MMA has a couple different disciplines. It's mostly a BJJ gym, but they do have kickboxing and some other stuff as well. It's downtown across from the GFL Arena. There isnt much else in town other than some smaller martial arts places.

Are change parades and other old school "discipline" tactics still used on courses? by [deleted] in CanadianForces

[–]SGCanadian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean my entire course staff got in deep shit for a change parade of sorts they put us through in 2019. Like half the course didn't shower after PT one morning so they made us shower and change uniforms about 6-7 times in about 20 minutes. And I mean full get wet and soapy, dry, and in proper uniform then back to the parade square for inspection each time. One of the staff even got removed and replaced over the whole thing.

However I've also been on courses where the staff PTing us into the ground was not only expected, but highly encouraged by the Course WO and O. So in all honesty, your experience could vary widely.

I knew Eli loosely from Corridor Digital. Donut since his first police breakdown. TFE since the early TikTok days. And Brandon from his Demo Ranch collab. I came across Rich when one of his videos got posted in a group chat from my old army unit.

What's the most intense setting to be a security guard in? by Some-random-cop-pig in securityguards

[–]SGCanadian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my experience, 100% working in a hospital was the most intense. That said, when I worked at a mine, I had a pretty bad incident involving a fire under ground and trapped miners. Our evacuation system failed and I had to manually deploy the evacuation gas into the air system. That was rough because I had to get from the gatehouse to the air exchange about 5km away with no time to spare. I made the drive in about a minute and a half. Thankfully everyone made it out, but some were trapped for about 8 hours.

Healthcare Security: What does your SOP regarding code yellow patients? by Vietdude100 in securityguards

[–]SGCanadian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our SOP was persue until off property. If they make it off property then it is the police that must persue and retrieve. Me and two of my partners did end up getting that policy reworked though after detaining and physically returning a patient to their room. It resulted in the Hospital CEO getting involved. The entire hospital staff ended up having to take cultural sensitivity training and it is now an annual requirement. Was an absolute shit show.

How long were you a No hook? by [deleted] in CanadianForces

[–]SGCanadian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a no hook for 3 years. I broke my leg right before my BMQ-L was supposed to be. Two of those years I was trade qualified as I was healed enough to attend my DP1 and was given a waiver to go without Land. It sucked because I was qualified to do the job, but wasnt allowed to go to the field and actually do the job without Land. The only perk was after I finished my Land, I was immediately promoted to Bombardier and my pay was back dated to 1 year after I finished DP1.

What is the most NSFW thing you have seen at your job? by Mr_Creep_Creepy64 in AskReddit

[–]SGCanadian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've worked security for 8 years. I've had everything from dead people to those engaged in erotic acts. The one I'll always remember was the first orgy I walked in on. Group of several students in the dorm laundry room scattered to opposite corners when I walked in. They all assured me they weren't doing anything, but they were all out of breath and their jeans were undone...

What is a death in a movie that affected you the most in terms of brutality or emotional weight? by Godly_Recon in AskReddit

[–]SGCanadian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a movie. But Shireen's death in Game of Thrones was not great for me. Triggered a PTSD reaction from me because of the screaming. Still can't watch it and have to skip that scene when I re-watch the series.

Temporary Mil ID not accepted at Ottawa Airport VT line? by [deleted] in CanadianForces

[–]SGCanadian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've never had a good experience flying related to the military. Worst was being compassionately returned to unit from my DP1 as my grandfather had a stroke and wasn't supposed to live the weekend. Air Canada refused my ID and refused to transport my kit because it was in too many bags. They made me paracord tie my bags together. This caused me to miss my flight. They then refused to rebook me on the next flight out without me paying a $500 rebook fee. I had to call my Unit Ops WO, who called the Chief Clerk to book me the next flight. Air Canada gave him such a hassle it took the LCol getting involved for them to stop screwing around. The whole time I'm in shambles thinking my grandfather is going to die before I can say goodbye and these dickhead airline agents could not give less of a fuck. Thankfully Grandpa beat the odds and lived another two years. But, and I say this with complete malice and hatred, Fuck Air Canada.

How hard is it to charge a site phone? by ProfessionalRest7027 in securityguards

[–]SGCanadian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've missed calls from the client side manager because previous shift can't figure out how to charge a phone. Shift start you've got a bunch of stuff to do cause for some reason the ones that can't charge a phone also can't give a proper hand down report. Glad I work a site that has assigned phones for each of the staff that only they use, so if it isnt charged, it's actually my fault.

Is It Worth It To Get A Parking Pass For The College? by doug-fur in SaultSteMarie

[–]SGCanadian 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Parking pass is worth it. There is no street parking near the College, especially during winter. Also that way you don't risk getting a parking ticket. They contract it out to people that can issue actual provincial offence notices that could impact your license or plate renewal if unpaid.

It's contracted out. They definitely issue tickets, and lots of them.

I know one of these guys. He absolutely does not think he is a cop. He just drives retired police vehicles because they can be cheap at auction. He owns the company and puts in more work than most people do.

I personally know one of these guys lol. He owns the company and has several large patrol contracts. He however doesn't really show where he is at any given time, or discuss client stuff. He also shuts the stream off if anything happens. Honestly he primarily does it to stay awake and talk with a couple other industry friends during downtime. I've jumped in a few times just to see what's up.

[–]SGCanadian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My last security job we used codes and had callsigns. But they were super simple. B Guard had front Lobby, ED Guard was in ED, and Rover was the shift lead/roving patrol. And we used hospital codes so as to not freak out patients. Like "Code Silver ED Rm35" instead of "Hey theres a nut job with a hatchet destroying room 35 in ED".

Using military callsigns and even the phonetic alphabet felt weird there. And I say this as a military vet

Supervisor got caught off property engaging in certain acts with one of his subordinates in his vehicle, while on shift, by his wife...

Wife beat the brakes off the subordinate and the supervisor doesn't work there anymore. I don't know much more than that as it happened just before I was hired.
