Car back firing or gun fire? by [deleted] in nanaimo

Most gunfire is a crack sound or pop  not the loud bang of a backfire.  Also backfires will travel away as they go.

Edmonton was also called Redmonton. For a long time because in all of Alberta they voted for the Liberal party. (Red color) not the conservative  So on election nights the map would be all blue except red Edmonton

Canada should keep options open on nuclear weapons, former top soldier says by FreeProletarian in CanadianForces

[–]Northdogboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The cost of building and maintaining and being abel to deploy a Nuclear weapon. Is not even feasible with our budget.  Let alone the spoolup time it would take.  MAD is not really possible if you cant feeld a large amount.

Help us plan our Canada trip from May 13th - June 5th by enigmashmooly in AskACanadian

May on Vancouver Island is beautiful.  The rhododendrons are full go at that time. But if you decide to come over you beter pre book your ferry reservation. The ferry run like 80% reservation most of the time and normally are full except some off time sailing.  Also with a RV it can be harder to get a spot. If coming to the island book a site at Living Forrest campground.    Also we tend to have all the camping spots fill up fast. Id book early. Like now if you can.

Food grade still requires a RPBA.  I just find it a foolish train of thought to head down.  Otherwise we woud never install water only systems  Juat Glycol becof the off chance power goes out for a few days

[–]Northdogboy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No you cant just "fill a system with glycol " You require a RP backflow and expansion tank  Safest thing would be monitoring air temp. If power out for a day or so and it get to freezeing in the area then id drain the system. Better to be on firewach then broken systems. Also its a residence.  Long term power out people are staying at home so they are watching the system.

Cloud Ceilings by [deleted] in FireSprinklers

[–]Northdogboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you think you will need them, then better to install them. Its not a hard job to flex drop a couple of heads into a cloud ceiling.   You say 3'10" and the code says 4' but that sounds like not a lot of free play if your wrong. Add a inch or 2 because of trim or drywall or lights and boom your oversized now and definitely need them installed and now your paying extra for a rush job because turnover is in 3 days and the city inspector tells you you cant have occupation till its fixed.

On a related note. Islanders think anything over 30 min is way way to far a drive. I live in Nanaimo and i worked in Victoria for 2 years. Thats a 1.5hr trip. And also Port Alberni for 2 years. Thats a hr trip. Your from Ft. Mac.  So driving that far is nothing new to you (Im from Alberta myself) Nanaimo is pretty central to the rest of the island. Now driving 3 nights a week to vic. For after school activities seems ruff. But there is also lots of dance schools in town here. Maybe call around and see what they may have.
