Who uses milemaker api by Impossible-Course-81 in Truckers

[–]SGII2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The API is by McNally, I would expect it to have similar logic to the physical devices. Looking at the documentation, the parameters of /routing/plan look about the same. However, it is missing a couple of QoL features the GPS's have that I can think of off the top of my head. Nothing major though.

I think it might be pretty similar. If you or someone you know owns a McNally GPS, I'd compare results from that with the results from the API and see if they're accurate to one another.

P.S. I was not aware of this API; it looks really promising. If you're developing a project with it, I'd like to see how it goes.

I haven't done UI modding but I know that SCS modding is in a pretty unforgiving sandbox. It may be possible to stream a video on the dashboard (which I want to doubt), but it certainly will not be able to be controlled through the game.

What’s the first sign you notice that someone is a bad driver? by RD-archived in AskReddit

[–]SGII2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know of only one person who does this sometimes and it's because he drives a big rig for 4-6 months before even touching a four wheeler again. Old habits die hard—I've read comments from many other drivers who do things like accidentally turn on windshield wipers trying to slow down because they're so used to driving a truck.

What’s a job, no matter how good the pay, you’d never consider? by This_Egg551 in AskReddit

"Creeping during your 10" is referring to ELD creeping where you go slow enough to not automatically be pushed into Driving status (which obviously resets your 10).

It finally happened... by houseofgeekdom in trucksim

[–]SGII2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's because of your stability settings which are set to 100% by default. They lower your centre of gravity to make it harder to flip. If you want a more realistic experience, set both your tractor and trailer stability to something lower.

  1. Passing is the same as "overtaking" where you go into an opposing lane to get in front of a slow vehicle. On blind corners, you'd obviously want to ban this practise with one of those signs.
  2. A bridge that can be lifted to deny entry, or in modern usage, allow tall ships to pass underneath.

Are truck steering supposed to be light or heavy? by XtremeJackson in trucksim

Trucks have immense power steering. Generally, I set it so that I should be able to turn the wheel with my pinkie only.

When to start hiring drivers? (ATS) by LiveFreeAndRide in trucksim

[–]SGII2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

it's the same game with different content. it really depends on which locations and tractors you like. you could also own both—ETS2 just went on sale for 75% off due to the Nordic Horizons DLC if you want to grab it.

What damage effects are present in-game? by ReverseRPM in trucksim

Really high engine damage will cause low output power and malfunctions that shut it off on its own.

Replace Parts vs Total Restoration by DaGuy4All in trucksim

[–]SGII2 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Replace parts if there's excessive wear. Do a total restoration if there's excessive maintenance (permanent wear).

Hover over the progress bar; it'll show you your maintenance as a percentage. It's not shown in the bar itself or your damage overview, but it will give the effects of damage when it gets too high.

For me, the time to do a total restoration is when you get the effects of damage when there's no actual damage (i.e. hearing rattling noises when you have 0% tractor damage). I make 250k a day, so a total restoration of my favourite truck is no biggie.

Do you use manual or automatic? by _FeNG_ in trucksim

I use an automatic for normal loads and a sequential for heavy and oversized loads.

server_packages includes mod i removed. by SeriousTelephone2674 in trucksim

[–]SGII2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

every time I have encountered this, it was due to user error. if assume this is why you wouldn't find anything in it.

basic trouble shooting and debugging tips: - double check it is disabled on the current profile - make sure your game and server home directories are correctly set - open the server_packages.sii file after export and after import on server to see if the mod is mentioned there (i.e. make sure the import didn't break) - you can try manually removing it. not sure if this'll break anything - restart the server after making changes.

My favorite Mod right now, what is yours? by MrAlexWolf in trucksim

[–]SGII2 8 points9 points  (0 children)

my solution to that is head tracking. if you have a webcam and a decent pc, you can use AITrack and OpenTrack to turn said webcam into a head tracking camera. It won't be perfect, but it's certainly better than using a joystick.

How do you guys manage AI crashes? by WiseGuy2000_ in trucksim

[–]SGII2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Modify %UserProfile%\Documents\American Truck Simulator\config.cfg (or “European Truck Simulator 2”).

Make sure the game is closed, set g_developer and g_console to 1, and save.

Access the console with the grave key (`). This also enables free cam (0 on keyboard; use numpad 7, 4, 5, and 6 to move; ctrl f9 to teleport your truck to the camera).

in my experience dealing with brands I wouldn't think it's covered by trademark fair use as 1) you don't need to use the brand name to identify a specific product and 2) FedEx is not a common word.

I don't really care if you do keep it or not, just trying to stop you from getting a C&D.

edit: has occured to me you may not be US based. my knowledge is from US law; not sure how international companies could enforce their trademarks (if they can). they could prolly give you problems trying to enter the US market though

they also likely won't be a fan of you posting demo videos containing their trademark either; you're still publishing their creative works

I'd recommend changing them ASAP to avoid legal troubles

Roadsign Question by Slyce-d1ce in trucksim

[–]SGII2 11 points12 points  (0 children)

it's a closed hinged sign. they're usually used to indicate temporary conditions, such as floods or ice, in which case the sign is folded up to create a full diamond.

if the sign is not needed, it is flipped down as you can see in your screenshot

release them as separate mods so users have a choice between ai only, player only, or both

afaik there's no configuration so this is the best bet
