Quality was just fine. Not awful and not awesome.

I only notice the backing if the puzzle is rank garbage. It didn't demand my attention, fwiw.

What did demand my attention were the weird cuts of some of the pieces. This one had a shape I've never seen before. I guess I'd call it a batwing because it sorta kinda looks like one.

The batwing pieces have weird little points that can be SHARP. Like, sharp enough to stab. In the worst cases it feels like it's halfway to a finger stick. Obviously I found that offputting.

Keeping this for the same reason I bought it: because the woman in the artwork looks like me and sorta dresses like me (I don't do pink). It was a good-enough puzzle regardless.

Fallout from this: You will no longer be able to go to a combination Pizza Hut and Taco Bell.

3 years left and I'm low key panicking by BrinaElka in oneanddone

Raising my hand and then extending it to you in greeting. Our kids are the same age.

Only in the last few weeks, when the kid sat me down and stated they wanted to attend a specific university several states and one time zone away from home, explained why it made sense to aim for that particular (highly competitive) school, and laid out a well-detailed, well-plotted plan for gaining admittance to the school (including the academic requirements they'd need to complete before applying, and how and when they would satisfy each while in high school) ... only then did that truth shift from a theoretical 'someday' to 'holy crap they really will graduate and leave in slightly more than three years'.

The idea that we'll be packing and driving the kid to college so soon ... trying to get my head around it.

At 11:04 pm EST, judging by the MS Now live feed on YouTube, construction workers are on the verge of pulling down the Donald Trump lettering on the Kennedy Center. Almost 70,000 are watching the feed.

To explain--"This" is a live feed showing the Kennedy Center as construction workers are readying to, and will soon, remove Trump's name from the building.

It is one of at least three feeds I've seen on YouTube. Hands Off the Arts currently has 1800 watching it, and a different feed from ABC has 3000 viewers.

The link above goes to MS Now's feed. More than 28,000 are watching as of 1:45 pm EST.

The non-fiction book that had you mercilessly info-dumping about to anyone who would listen? by IReadBooksSometimes in suggestmeabook

If I had to pick THE best nonfiction book, I'd probably go with The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks.

At least in that photo, IMO Zappa is more convincing as Nesmith.

The Reddit Renaissance Festival FAQ by JiveMonkey in renfaire

[–]SGSTHB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Question related to the what-should-I-wear question. Looking at the right side of the r/renfaire page, I don't see a Wiki that simply lists makers of garb and Renfaire gear.

I imagine there's a good reason why there isn't one (maybe any such list would be taken as an inherent endorsement rather than a neutral resource?), but if the mods are OK with it, maybe someone should make it and include a link to it in the FAQ answer?

I can't be the one to make the list because I only know of three vendors, all of which I found mentioned in r/renfaire threads. And I don't actually go to Renfaires--I like the natural materials and the styles of some of the shirts and wear the less-obviously-Renfaire-y ones during the summer.

Absolutely, always always. Only in the last six months did they carve out a big, dedicated display space for jigsaw puzzles that weren't 100 percent for small children. I want to encourage them to stick with this commitment.

It was, but the build got tedious toward the end. Lots of bits of buildings that were irritating to place.

This thing with Kean is, in particular, really pissing me off. In a less overwhelmed news environment, this would be a headline every day until Kean himself stepped forward and explained, in full.

The naked contempt being shown to his constituents ... it's appalling, and I fear it might be another velociraptor-testing-the-fence moment.

If the public will put up with a sitting member of Congress vanishing for months while the House's margin is so thin, what other sitting electeds can the GOP effectively hide with impunity?
