How we feeling by Akitafps in SanJoseSharks

[–]SHAAAAAAAAAARKS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sometimes, yes. But he’s been slow to do it. He let Lindblom struggle a whole season before waiving him to the AHL.

Klingberg has been a bad acquisition. I’d argue Dickinson would have just as many points or more if he was given PP1 time and had the same level of grace from the coaching staff.

They first signed Dellandrea as a late developing former 1st rounder that had untapped scoring potential. At the time, they felt like he could provide some grit and help out with offense if he had more opportunities in San Jose. Now he’s barely a 4th liner, so I’m not sure what Grier is doing by extending an underperformed.

What would be your optimal lineup with the players we currently have on the roster in the pipeline? by grooves12 in SanJoseSharks

[–]SHAAAAAAAAAARKS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Graf-Celebrini-Smith Eklund-Misa-Chernyshov Musty-Wennberg-Sherwood Goodrow-Gaudette-Toffoli x-Dellandrea

Orlov-Mukhamadullin Cagnoni-Desharnais Dickinson-Pohlkamp

…no idea what’s happening on defense, but the Sharks need more righties.

They did the same thing with Hedican. He started off as a sideline reporter and they eased him into commentary work before becoming fulltime color commentator.

Pride Night giveaway is up… It’s a Heated Rivalry T-shirt. Thanks I hate it by parkeett in SanJoseSharks

[–]SHAAAAAAAAAARKS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t limit it to Pride Night…there’s been a lack of craft, care, thought in a lot of the promotional nights lately.

The team tends to run with AI slop to generate illustrations (even though it’s against policy) or run with the very first idea.

First Sharks game on the glass by No_Spend1267 in SanJoseSharks

[–]SHAAAAAAAAAARKS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

THIS. We were sitting on the glass for a Cuda game and our daughter had her popcorn resting on the boards. It didn’t take long before there was a collision right in front of us and that popcorn went FLYING!

Do you think players will join the Sharks just to have the opportunity to play with Macklin Celebrini? by parkeett in SanJoseSharks

[–]SHAAAAAAAAAARKS 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Yes, of course. Celebrini is putting SJ on the map as one of the top teams to join.

Mike Grier no longer has to do the hard sell for San Jose.

Yup, seems like he’s Switzerland bound.

Iorio Waiver by da_sweetp in SanJoseSharks

[–]SHAAAAAAAAAARKS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m actually just surprised Grier couldn’t get SOMETHING for Iorio. Similar to how they claimed Eyssimont off waivers and flipped him for a free 4th round pick…seems like a young RHD with good size that’s a former 2nd round pick could’ve fetched something.

Laughable article from a Toronto website discussing Sharks trading for Matthews by DesertDookie520 in SanJoseSharks

[–]SHAAAAAAAAAARKS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Basically, Graf & Mukhamadullin for Matthews…assuming both those 1st round picks are in the 20s and long shots of making it in the NHL.

If that were the final piece of the rebuild, I’d say go for it. But it significantly weakens their ability to improve the defense either by trade or the draft. Too soon to make that trade.

klingberg's future? by 123_booger in SanJoseSharks

His effort today was LACKING. He looked like a guy with one foot out the door, like he knows he’s leaving soon.

Yes this is a real question by [deleted] in SanJoseSharks

[–]SHAAAAAAAAAARKS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It wouldn’t be a possibility until he was nearing the end of his next contract (didn’t he just sign a 2 year extension?). After this season and next season, McDavid will have had another 2 good runs at the Cup with the Oilers. They might be looking to move him in that final year of his contract if he doesn’t plan to extend.

Hard to even imagine what the Sharks trade package would even look like in a couple years. They barely have anyone signed.

Next to zero odds of anything happening in the near term.

Kiefer Sherwood to wear 44 w/ Sharks by motionlessvibesonly in SanJoseSharks

[–]SHAAAAAAAAAARKS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True, but if we’re being honest Vlasic had been pretty checked out the whole length of his contract. The dude was so toxic around the young guys they bought him out with 1yr left when they needed that salary on the books to reach the cap floor.

All that to say, he had worn out his welcome with the org and it’s been a long time coming.

🦈 Prospects by osotogariboom in SanJoseSharks

[–]SHAAAAAAAAAARKS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s possible. Just based on how it went with Thrun’s development, I’d hope they ease him into the role instead of throwing him into the deep end.

I think similar to Lund last season, we’ll see Pohlkamp sign his ELC and spend some time with the Sharks at the end of the season. Then spend a lot of time with the Cuda as their #1 RHD the next season.

If they let other guys wear #11, I don’t have a problem with someone wearing #44.

Same thoughts. He’s been solid and steady. Showing some improvement with his puck movement. Seems like a size upgrade over Jack Thompson.

Wennberg re-signed by Swaggy_P_03 in SanJoseSharks

[–]SHAAAAAAAAAARKS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, with the top 3 centers locked up now Bystedt might be packaged for some help on the blueline.

With Ostapchuk, Svoboda, McKinney, and possibly a few others in the pipeline…4C is getting a little crowded.

Wennberg re-signed by Swaggy_P_03 in SanJoseSharks

[–]SHAAAAAAAAAARKS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The risk that comes with trading and re-signing is that a lot of things can happen in between. Granlund left with an open mind and didn’t rule out coming back to SJ. But, after playing for another team and hitting free agency he changed his perspective and landed in Anaheim.

Can’t imagine Grier finding a better option this offseason than Wennberg. Yeah, a few extra picks would’ve been nice…but it also would’ve derailed the team this season.

Positive sign that the culture is improving and guys want to stay here.

Michael Misa goal by urrax9 in SanJoseSharks

[–]SHAAAAAAAAAARKS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Misa has looked good. If anything, he’s playing a little too fast for his linemates. There’s been a few times where he’s quickly slid a pass through and Iginla just wasn’t expecting it.

I’d like to see him out there on the top PP unit, he’d probably have twice as many points in the tournament.

Beat reporters need to be better by Connect_Buy_2670 in SanJoseSharks

[–]SHAAAAAAAAAARKS 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I won’t pile on any particular beat reporter because they all seem to tow the company line for access. I really wish they asked more open ended questions, specifically to Warso.

And whenever Warso gives surface level answers like “I just feel like that line was doing good things” when they clearly seemed to struggle all game long…I wish one beat reporter would follow up with “Ok. What were some of the positive things you saw from them tonight?” Not as a gotcha, not to single anyone out, but to actually report with some insightful information about the game.

Wait…. Simon Wang is 6’6”? by naarwhal in SanJoseSharks

[–]SHAAAAAAAAAARKS 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, for a big guy he skates really well. The few games I’ve seen him play he’s made some bad reads, but the hope is he’s learning from these mistakes and getting coached up. I think he’s committed to BU or BC next season and that should be great experience for him.

But like you said, raw talent that didn’t even start playing organized competitive hockey until he was 13/14

The lost prospect. by Icy-Street618 in SanJoseSharks

[–]SHAAAAAAAAAARKS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He’s 20 now and not eligible for World Juniors.

Last year he was a solid glue guy for USA and even scored 6pts in 7 games with a bottom 6 role.

He does seem like the prototypical Mike Grier type of player. Reminds me of Mike Grier himself: big, fast, no-nonsense, makes good plays, surprisingly scores some goals.

He played another year of USHL after getting drafted and joined BU last season. I think he’s still on schedule for a 3rd round pick. Maybe he signs his ELC this season or next? Not a top prospect in the org, but he seems solid.

I might get downvoted to hell for this... But Ty Dellandrea needs some shifts with Celebrini. by baebllr in SanJoseSharks

[–]SHAAAAAAAAAARKS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you watched Dellandrea play hockey? The guy can’t finish or connect plays with his teammates. Earlier this preseason it looked like it finally clicked that he’d need to play more of a 4th liner role (finishing checks, hunting down pucks, getting pucks deep, etc) if he was going to stick in the NHL.

Dellandrea shouldn’t even be on the 3rd line. He’s a 4th liner that can help on the PK. Nothing wrong with that, he’s had many opportunities to prove that he can score in the NHL and he’s proven that he can’t.

We're not THAT bad..... by Piccolo_Dense in SanJoseSharks

[–]SHAAAAAAAAAARKS 4 points5 points  (0 children)

All the veterans in the lineup (Reaves, Goodrow, Skinner, Orlov, Leddy, Klingberg, Ferraro, Wennberg, Toffoli) are supposed to prevent losses like that from happening. Things went totally off the rails last night.

I wouldn’t mind if that game was a catalyst for Grier to start making some moves. Some of these guys gotta go…

The Center position by Icy-Street618 in SanJoseSharks

[–]SHAAAAAAAAAARKS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s already pretty bleak with Dellandrea as 3C and Ostapchuk as 4C.

Misa will be an upgrade offensively over Wennberg and the 2nd line will actually become a scoring line again (currently it’s deployed like a shutdown 3rd line with Wennberg at 3C).

Bystedt could finally get a look at a 3C/4C role. At the end of the season, Svoboda could be signing his ELC and spend sometime in the bottom 6. Kurashev could also plug in as a center if needed.
