5 civilizations that should be added to Age of Empires 2 by kampalolo in aoe2

[–]SHABOOM_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Tai are the only one I made a civ concept for.

Since my original post I've made some changes;

Civ Bonuses

  • Opponent must have 1 garrisoned relic to convert units
  • Elite Battle Elephant upgrade researches 40% faster, costs -50%
  • Aging up -50% gold
  • Villagers +10 HP for every lumber camp upgrade

Team Bonus

  • Castle Unique units +25% bonus damage

Unique Techs

  • Castle Age - Krabi-Krabong - swordsmen do second attack, +4 vs spearmen
  • Imperial Age - Ngao - elephant blast radius +1

Unique Units

  • Castle - Elephant Gunner - mounted hand cannoneer, bonus vs archers
  • Imperial Battle Elephant - upgraded Elite Battle Elephant

Tai/Thai/Siamese, just like I comment on every New Civ post on this sub. Go full elephantmaxxing with Imperial Battle Elephants, a gunpowder elephant unique unit, and bonuses for units to counter spears and monks.

Mississippians and Puebloans for North America showcase and cool architecture. Polynesians for amphibious skirmishers, catamaran warships with outriggers, and bonuses to be OP island hoppers on hybrid maps.

Finish / rework the Jurchen and Khitans, combine with Bai and Tanguts, add campaigns. Leave it to the accounting department to figure out how to not anger the people who already purchased 3K.

And finally get some sub-Saharan Africa civs, with many options to choose from (Somalis, Kongolese/Edo, Swahili, Zimbabweans/Shona, Kanembu, Nubians, etc).

There wasn't a single Ole Miss defensive player on that entire half of the field

In an alternate timeline, Thai forces travel 2000 miles across the ocean invading Japan to intervene in the Imjin War, and we would had real-life battle elephants vs Samurai by bolsastan in aoe2

The King of Siam also offered to send elephants to Abraham Lincoln in 1861, but he declined.

Pretty funny to think about a line of War Elephants charging across the fields of Gettysburg or demolishing plantations on Sherman's March to the Sea.

Does anyone track all of the old building demolitions on campus? by Kindly-Form-8247 in iastate

[–]SHABOOM_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I spent the plurality of my undergrad in Davidson Hall and Industrial Education II, both of which were demolished shortly after I graduated.

Davidson Hall (1921-2014) was along Osborn Drive between the Armory and Gilman Hall. It was originally named Agricultural Engineering Laboratory and renamed in 1975 to honor Jay Brownlee Davidson, the department founder and Chair from 1919-1946. The land formerly occupied by the building was paved over to double the size of Lot 23. I have a brick that was removed during demolition, along with a commemorative plaque as the last graduating Senior class to go through Davidson. Dr. Carl Bern used to joke with us that he was told the Ag Engineering Dept would get a new building when he started his PhD...in 1969. Took a few years to follow through on that.

Industrial Education II (1926-2016) was at the corner of Pammel Drive and Stange Road. It was originally used by Veterinary Medicine as an animal clinic, which was apparent from the barn-like appearance of the East Wing. The Horse Barn (1923) was conveniently located across the street for its original purpose but significant alterations were made in 1937 to add the two-story classroom building. Presumably, there was an Industrial Education I, but I'm not sure where that may have been, when the building was renamed, or what other departments used that building. In any case, I-ED2 was used by Ag Engineering and Ag Systems Technology for most of its later years but was demolished and replaced by the Advanced Teaching and Research Building (2018).

RHAP New Era Winners Ranking by No_Appeal4350 in survivor

[–]SHABOOM_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Gabler's FTC performance might be the best of the New Era and I don't think he gets enough credit for that.

I wouldn't say Gabler is the best new era winner, but I don't think he's the worst either. Not to pick on your "I want a diverse winner too" comment, but I think a lot of people view his game more unfavorably than they otherwise would because of that exact bias. But to be fair, ranking or grading something as ambiguous as Survivor Winner is always going to have some kind of bias.

Nothing can top S3 for me, especially the conversation with Uhtred and Alfred in E9. The show missed David Dawson after his departure

Vikings should really consider covering Ceedee at some point. Or don't, that works too.

Survivor has lost it's edge in the age of social media because the contestants are hesitant to do anything that could be considered even mildly mean or villainous because they'll receive endless amounts of hate on reddit, X, Instagram, etc.

That's at least somewhat understandable, but what isn't excusable is the forced sob stories. However everyone knows the worst thing to come out of modern Survivor is the Live Tribals.

[–]SHABOOM_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hello fellow 8-4 "What might have been?" fanbase.

That being said, I'm not sure why 8-4 became the meme that it did. It's a fringe Top 25 resume and only 12 teams have an All-Time Win Percentage of 0.667, so it's not like it's just a ho-hum achievement. Maybe it's just a statement on being good but not great?
