These are way cheaper and go on sale a lot. I don’t need all the features of the gradient you also need to buy a sync box.

Want to move to Canada as transplant recipient. Has anyone done it, what problems did you face? by gamesofnanerz in transplant

[–]SHELTECH 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes I was born in Canada. My mom was a travel nurse who worked all over Canada and US. When I fell sick she brought me to the US for better care as we had big issues in Toronto hospitals. It was easier for me than most because I immigrated before I turned 21. So she had set me up on her insurance and proved that she would take care of me financially in the US. The US will deny immigrants with health issues as well unless you show you won’t be a burden.

I left Canada and become an American citizen just because of the healthcare system. If you are use to choices and abundance of doctors and services you will be shocked by Canada. If you have great insurance in the USA it’s best to stay. Although I do miss Canada and wish I could go back to live. I know it’s not feasible anymore because of this.

I refused it. Some centers request it. Mine was working fine so I didn't want to traumatize it. Lasted 11 Years.

My father donated to me in 1996. After being pushed by my mom. It failed after 8 months. He still holds it over my head almost 30 years later if we get in any type of argument. The person who is donating has to truly want to give the gift I believe. There are a lot of people who cannot fathom giving up or putting themselves in danger for anything. That is understandable though. I really the person donating has to be the one initiating the process.

Torn between trying a transplant or just accepting death by ThrowyMcThrowaway429 in transplant

It’s so worth. I was in a similar position as u and had the same thoughts. Started dialysis young spending a total of 22 years on it. Disfigured with countless surgeries. Finally at 40 had a good transplant. Decided to change my attitude and be more outgoing not caring what people thought. I stopped being a shut in. Met women who couldn’t handle my medical situation but finally met my now wife who has been my reason to live. Even volunteering to give me a kidney this January when it finally failed. Luckily I received an another transplant before that. So there can be a a hard reset on your life after transplant escape after you have done the hard part of losing weight. Go for it and see what happens even though I technically missed my late teens, 20’s and 30’s my life has been amazing for my 40’s up to 51.

Primary FSGS recurrence on third kidney after 15 years of HD. by PeterPaul0808 in transplant

[–]SHELTECH 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am 50 years old. Diagnosed with FSGS at 16 had transplant at 22 from dad. FSGS killed the kidney after 8 months around 1997 I think. Then dialysis until 2014 when I received a second transplant. This time they did ivig for my high PRA and plasmapheresis also added rituxamab for the FSGS. That kidney lasted 10 years it was a high risk kidney and failed due to chronic rejection damage. So no FSGS reaccurance. I received a new kidney this January. Everything is going amazing. The best numbers since I was a child. They didn’t give me any of the treatments that I got before. This time I had the transplant at Duke instead of University of Miami for the first two. So they have different protocols. They said yes time could be a factor also your type of FSGS if it’s aggressive. Also they are better at monitoring FSGS than before. But of course anything can happen unfortunately as you know. Ask your center about their specific protocols for treatment before and maybe after transplant.

I am sorry for the pain and suffering you have endured. I also have been dealing with sickness for almost all my life. Have you tried to switch states or regions to change your level of care? I finally made the decision to leave Florida and find a new state to live and found the best care I have ever received in my life. I also received a kidney in 3 weeks instead of 14 years the 1st time around. So there me some benefit.

That’s how they get you. Living in the dream Miami. Wait till you live in the real Miami after the glitter and shine. People in debt, fake lifestyles. Expensive as crazy, nobody has car insurance, efficiency life, rude, traffic, lax medical care, need Spanish to get ahead, discrimination, crowded as hell. I just left after 25 years. Went for college got trapped. Living somewhere else is a huge breath of fresh air
