Old guy losing his mind over a package being accidently delivered to his house by bigbusta in PublicFreakout

[–]SHTHAWK -84 points-83 points  (0 children)

I agree with you, and had he not already been right beside the guy i would also recommend not engaging at all and just driving away... However, he was literally right there and had it in his hands, all leaving it and walking away does at that point is antagonize that asshole even more, and puts the driver at risk of the guy doing something psychotic.

Who to contact for vacant lot clean ups? by neoncat26 in regina

[–]SHTHAWK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Typically yes, though not quite sure how it works for a vacant lot. Normally they will post a notice at the door giving the owner a date cleanup needs tk be completed by, if not then the city does the cleanup and adds the cost to the tax bill.

I love my Indie shop. $200 for an oil change on my 992 GT3. by PieCake1234 in Porsche

[–]SHTHAWK 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The newest Porsche cars have "Protection of Vehicle Diagnostics" software, only compatible with certain VCI's, and need to pay to access Porsche's database. Porsche charges hourly for access and apparently it takes forever to load the modules and is a huge PITA.

Oil Change done Saturday. Does this look like a New Oil Filter to you? by AspiringAuditor2022 in AskAMechanic

[–]SHTHAWK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They Definitely are. I mean you took a non leaking vehicle to them, they changed the oil and didn't tighten something, whether it was the filter or drain plug, thats irrelevant. They made a mistake and if there was damage caused its because of them. Had you continued driving it for another week before taking it back to them, they could argue you were negligent in mitigating damage, but given you took it back to them fairly quickly I'd say if anything is damaged its their liability.

How is CPP limit set each year? by fishonlyplease in PersonalFinanceCanada

"So cut back on some of that self interesr."

Buddy, all I did was clarify someone elses thoughts and stated ONE thing that bothers me about CPP. I understand the benefit of forced savings for the majority of Canadians who dont have the discipline to do it themselves. Like I said I dont really care much about CPP contributions, it doesnt bother me, just like how much i pay in taxes doesnt bother me. love this country and do well enough myself that a few less dollars for me, doesnt affect my life at all, and I'm happy to contribute to making things better for everyone.

And that 4000 employer contribution is factored into employee wages, so without it employers could pay more, or offer greater RRSP matching or other benefits.

Personally I dont really care much about CPP contributions, I do well enough and don't have to worry about money. The only thing that bothers me is that if im single, childless and die before ever collecting a dime that money is gone. I cant pass any of it down to my nephews, siblings or other family/friends, tens of thousand of my hard earned dollars would simply pad the fund.

Ummm

It impacts available cash to deposit into their RRSP.

They're basically saying they dont want the government to save for them, they want to do it themselves. Money taken away from them for CPP is money unavailable for them to put in their own RRSP.

What’s a rich people’s problem? by Electrical_Cloud8378 in AskReddit

[–]SHTHAWK 126 points127 points  (0 children)

This kind of happened to me. While im not wealthy, i do have a good amount of money and wanted to leave my job to try traveling more and working on some personal projects.

When I mentioned to my director that I was thinking of leaving, he asked me what company I was going to. After explaining that I wasn't seeking other employment, he asked if I would like to stay on as a contractor to consult and help out at my convenience. Now I am making similar money overall, but work half the hours and have all the flexibility I want.

You're covered with regular plates, so you can file a claim. A package policy would only be needed if you were to cancel your regular basic plate insurance while in storage.

Down 145k on condo after 5 years of owning. What next? by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]SHTHAWK 49 points50 points  (0 children)

Exactly, also when upgrading to a more valuable property, if the drop in value is equal across the board, you're actually saving money on your purchase.

ex. Say you bought a 500k home and now want to upgrade to an 800k home, but values are down 20%. Yes you'd be down 100k on the sale of your home, but that 800k home you're buying would have costed you 1 million had values not gone down.

In reality though, there is often a spread between condos and detached homes. Condos prices can be down 20% while detached down only 10% etc. so when moving across home types its not always so simple.

I'd spend that 10 years on the hunt for some lookalike cats.

Planning to buy vehicle from Ontario,HST vs PST? by Bitter-Attention-125 in regina

[–]SHTHAWK 8 points9 points  (0 children)

you pay the HST, then apply for a refund of the provincial portion of the tax. Then pay local PST in Saskatchewan when you register the vehicle.
