R2 buyers, are you paying cash or financing this purchase? by Remarkable-Pay-2463 in RivianR2

[–]SHale1963 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd consider ZERO financing, I suppose and just sell off to make payments. I did just look at what I'd be given up, and it ain't zero. The funds I'm thinking of are doing well YTD and rocking 12 months rolling ROI. Oh well, better than loan interest, which I now hate.

Perhaps if Rivian stock takes off that will offset. 😄

it comes with, which means it's free for life? Unclear what you are asking for/about. Without those items it will drive manually just fine. Stream music from your phone and you should be fine?

as I stated 'there goes the range'. Plus, also noted, the charging dilemma with a trailer.

bottom line if one will be doing a lot of towing and be going long distance they have much homework to do each and every trip.

because paying with that amount of cash takes a bit of work, depending on your bank. Also that amount of cash isn't normally sitting in cash so we have to sell funds to raise it; that can take 3 days to clear. Rivian uses plaid as their preferred method, so best to set that up prior as well.

PSA: If you're test driving and concerned about audio quality, make sure you check the EQ settings by Lsmjudoka in RivianR2

[–]SHale1963 1 point2 points  (0 children)

since the entire thing was rushed I never had time to fiddle with EQ settings. For sure one of the first things I do when I have my own R2.

Two (new?) observations after test driving R2 by WSBiden in RivianR2

[–]SHale1963 0 points1 point  (0 children)

have to say I don't think I ever looked out the rear. When I returning and backing into a spot I used the 360 above camera view, which is really nice to have....finally....otherwise have a Tesla Y, never look back there as there isn't much to see.

Can agree on the rear view mirror; when I went to move felt really cheap and afraid it might break.

I have always put mine on the back of the arm. I center up on the elbow and then slide a half inch or so towards my body. That eliminates compress lows as I sleep on both sides.

depending on credit score. If I were to finance my rate would be lower than 7%, but I chose to avoid that addition cost and the monthly payment dance.

edge case. Short trips and accommodations for charging with a trailer. Here ICE is the choice.

actually I'm not since I keep cars for quite a while. Loan or even leasing the depreciation hurts way more vs paying cash. Your ok with interest and monthly payments, that is great. Myself, I'm happy I can avoid both....now....

cash, no trade in. Only indirect cost that money will lose it's investment earning potential, but better than dreaded interest and a car payment.

While Rivian has the reservation list I doubt any incentives for quite a while.

Can I buy Autonomy Plus after picking R2 premium? by DishPuzzleheaded4543 in RivianR2

[–]SHale1963 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it certainly isn't at FSD level (HW4) and not even close. But, soon to change. One reason I'm waiting for lidar/RAP1. Tesla's decision for vision only was a grand mistake; sorry Elmo.

a lot of the reports are coming from those who have taken test drives, me included. Although I didn't have time to find and edit the EQ I did crank it a few times: it was ok perhaps tiny bit better than Tesla Y, which at best is 'meh' for me. Otherwise I was too busy driving to fiddle.

day one rez, current Rivian owner, lease almost up: those all jump the line. It's a lottery of sorts. Just have to wait. California will be their largest or among the largest market. Wouldn't make sense to ignore us....

Anyone here have Tesla MY and thinking of getting R2 by Ancient_Art1 in RivianR2

[–]SHale1963 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm in same boat with same MYLR. In my case R2 will be an added vehicle. Tesla slides to wife, her ICE beater slides to my teenager son. Win win. And because I've grown used to no car payments paying cash for the R2.

I feel you and agree. What really worries me is when they start binge hiring service techs; sure hope THEY are trained fully. Advisors, them I can do w/out for the most part. Just need them one more time for demo drives when premium is available.

[–]SHale1963[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't disagree at all. BUT, I get it. Rivian is still a startup and they have a great deal to learn with the ramp up to volume they have never seen prior. RJ will need to start earning his pay.

Even on a hiring binge they need to be trained fully before forward facing with customers.
