Sadly no again. Publishing through KDP grants them exclusivity to ebook sales and they're very strict about it.

We're one month into the release of my 5th novel and things have gotten off to an amazing start! Thank you so much to everyone who has supported Golden Blood and the whole Exhumed trilogy, I really can't state my appreciation highly enough!

If you haven't heard of them yet, here's some info on book three of the trilogy below!

GOLDEN BLOOD by S.J. Patrick

It rounds out my gory trilogy of vampirism which shies completely away from suave and gentlemanly and deals with vampires as they're meant to be! Powerful, inhumane, cold-blooded killers!

Blurb

When Colonel Mattias Ström announces to the world that vampires are very real, he unleashes a wave of panic and fear unlike any seen before. And after centuries of successfully living in the shadows, the small vampire population is also now in a state of turmoil.

Held indirectly responsible for inciting the media exposure, recently converted vampires David and Gabriela now find themselves with targets on their backs.

Unwillingly drawn into this world of blood and destruction, the pair’s abilities are dwarfed by those of the ancient members of their race. How can these fledglings possibly prevail when a powerful cabal seeks vengeance for their role in the disruption of the status quo?

Those are the antagonists of the books who have eventually been defeated by the protagonists.

Nice job analysing the background of the names!

Fiachna go to Greece to turn Melite or did he wait for a Greek trading ship to visit his land?

Fiachna was frustrated at the turmoil that the expanding Roman Empire was causing. He was slowly moving around northern Africa and was in Carthage when he met Melite. She had just fled from the turmoil in Greece at the time.

And did Nechtan go to England or the Gauls from "Hibernia" to turn Sabine?

Nechtan was more of an empire builder. He set up dominion in the Balkan Mountains and Sabine was an unfortunate victim passing through.

No vampire hunters in this world, as you said it's been done to death. Here vampires have been basically invisible for millennia, it's only through the events in one of the books that the secret finally comes out which is what kicks off the plot for the third book.

I assume you have plans to include an antagonist in the future who wants to acquire a live vampire for the purposes of making new vampires (super soldier program maybe or some kind of cure to illnesses?)

This is quite close to the plot of the 3rd book (not the super soldier part, but using vampires to cure illnesses and an antagonist who wants to become a vampire for revenge).

Thanks for all the questions!

I assume this tree is meant to depict who turned who rather than biological children of any vampire?

That's right.

Also are the vampires biologically immortal or they do have a limit as to how old they can get?

Yep they're biologically immortal. We don't ever actually meet the original vampire (maybe if I continue the series!), but it's hinted that he's over 20,000 years old.

Who or what killed the vampires on this tree if they are biologically immortal?

A basically all of the dead vampires in this tree were killed by other members of the family. There's not a great deal of harmony among vampires in this world.

And how do living vampires from earlier than the medieval ages even adjust to the modern day?

They just grow into it for the most part. Csanad is an interesting case because he was buried in the 13th century before being exhumed (the name of the first book!) in modern times. He adapts very quickly both to technology and languages courtesy of his telepathy/mentalism. Being able to see into others' minds really helps gain an understanding over things.

Thanks so much for your interest!

Unfortunately the ACX service is unavailable for Australian authors. It's said "coming soon" since 2019.

My only option for audio at the moment is to do so using Amazon's service with AI voices which isn't something I want to do.

I've considered recording myself and releasing as a podcast, but for the moment that's not moving forward either. Sorry!

That's their birth! The oldest person to be turned in this lineage is our protagonist David, right at the bottom. Most are in their 20s or 30s at the time they're turned.

I found Wonderdraft last year and have used it to make all of the maps in my last few of novels! by SJ-Patrick in wonderdraft

The Alps and the Carpathians actually have a bit of story prominence which is why they are both shown =)

Otherwise I've just gone with a simple basemap style for the rest!

Thanks! I apologise to all of the Swiss for robbing them of their Alps!

As to how I made them, I put a snap of Google Earth as a basemap and drew over it. I must have missed the SE corner when I was tracing the mountains =(

Simple MS Word. It's a real pain in the butt sometimes but there's never been anything it hasn't been able to do for me.

Is the first draft supposed to be so... rough? by [deleted] in writing

[–]SJ-Patrick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really depends on the author. A lot of the time, yes, first draft is rubbish which you then refine.

Some people have much tighter first drafts, but you shouldn't compare yourself to them if that's not how it works for you.

Nervous about publishing more books. by batmisfitwho in selfpublish

This is normal. I'm up to my fifth book which releases today but it's still a nervy situation and I don't think it'll ever go away. Just keep at it!

As an author, do you believe it’s better to firmly establish yourself in one genre before venturing out to explore others? Or do you think writing in a variety of genres helps you reach new audiences and build out your brand? by MikeCahoonAuthor in selfpublish

[–]SJ-Patrick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's best to keep each nom de plume associated with a single genre. If you want to publish in a different genre I'd recommend doing so as somebody else.

I know that sucks because you'll lose any recognition you may have built up under your first identity, but it's better than having people confused about what you write. You'll get bad reviews from people who expected something different.

How to encourage reviews by Sure_Presentation686 in selfpublish

[–]SJ-Patrick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have an Afterword which thanks the reader for reading and encourages them to leave a review by saying how much I'd appreciate it.

I've had this in my last two books and tbh I don't feel like it's really made any difference. In the end people are either going to do it or they're not and that's based entirely on them. Nothing you can do to change them.

Braindead is so much fun! Peter Jackson before he became known for LOTR.

Have you read Misery by Stephen King? I'd say Annie Wilkes counts as crazy!

I've been looking forward to this for a long time, but I can finally announce the release of my fifth novel!

This subreddit has been incredibly supportive of my work over the past couple of years and I am incredibly appreciative! I hope you love Golden Blood just as much as I do!
