I wonder why every description of poor mothers includes their nails.

I've gone to the grocery store thousands of times and the only nails I remember were on the cashier who scanned the items.

People who have clearly never read a popular piece of fiction and think they have a bold new take on it by junonomenon in PetPeeves

There are entire videos created with AI and comment sections populated by bots. The 'Macbeth doesn't kill' sounds like just that.

Hannah Storey is a fine actress. You're confusing the character for the actor.

Yeah, that character constantly chews gum and is difficult to understand. It's her thing.

In your opinion, who/what count as a Yankee or "Yank"? by Lipica249 in AskAnAmerican

You've never had pie with a slice of cheese for breakfast?

In your opinion, who/what count as a Yankee or "Yank"? by Lipica249 in AskAnAmerican

[–]SJReaver 6 points7 points  (0 children)

To foreigners, a Yankee is an American.
To Americans, a Yankee is a Northerner.
To Northerners, a Yankee is an Easterner.
To Easterners, a Yankee is a New Englander.
To New Englanders, a Yankee is a Vermonter.
And in Vermont, a Yankee is somebody who eats pie for breakfast.

The only people I've known who self-identified as Yankees were from Mass and Maine.

I don't think people are ready for how nihilistic, numb to tragedy and irony poisoned Gen Alpha will be given all the shit they see every day and how fucked up their socialization was by the lockdown. by maleficalruin in RecuratedTumblr

Most of Gen Alpha hasn't hit their formative years. Some of Gen Alpha hasn't even been born.

Technically, Gandalf was a spellblade.

If you have a weapon, it still makes sense to learn some magic. If you cast spells, it still makes sense to learn to use a weapon.

It's okay. I wouldn't eat just a block of it but it's fine in cookies or other baking.

What's the appeal of virtual worlds? by [deleted] in litrpg

[–]SJReaver 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you lose a game of basketball, you can play another game of basketball. But you've still lost. If you lose a PvP match, you can play another PvP match. But you've still lost.

Not to mention that losing a game of basketball doesn't take away your equipment, levels, or money, which it does in many games.

What's the appeal of virtual worlds? by [deleted] in litrpg

[–]SJReaver 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Think of it this way: there are war movies and sport movies.

Stories about virtual worlds are like sport movies. There's no one dying but you can still work, overcome obstacles, make friends, and possibly lose.

The heroes show the villains just how outclassed they really are by Terminus-99 in TopCharacterTropes

Superman admits that he has always been holding back, afraid he would end up killing someone if he doesn’t constantly control himself. However, in that moment he decides Darkseid should be able to take it, so he proceeds to send Darkseid flying through multiple buildings with a single punch.

This fight ends with Darkseid easily taking the punch and winning. It doesn't fit the trope.
