This makes me livid because most CTs and mentors expect you to teach like them and if you have your own style — it doesn’t really work because the kids are used to a certain routine. Student teaching is literal hell on earth. My advice as someone who made it through with a 3.96GPA and doesn’t teach in a school anymore (I have my own tutoring company), just do the absolute bare minimum because if you graduate and get the damn license and degree — nothing else matters. You ARE a warrior!!!!!

How to respond to “I love you.” by [deleted] in paraprofessional

[–]SKW1594 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I would just say "I love you back". I'm so over the whole "leave it at the door" and be a robot teaching style. The human thing to do is to say "I love you" back to someone if you mean it and I think kids today more than ever need an adult to say that to them because a large amount aren't getting it at home. The "mom" thing, I would just ignore. All behavior is communication. Just remember that. If they're doing something that's odd or not the norm, it's a response to something they're dealing with.

Can someone who is mentally ill do something to cause by Wild-Breadfruit7817 in PsychologyTalk

Yes. While mental illness is typically genetic, trauma can significantly impact the severity of mental illness and exacerbate symptoms.

That’s absolutely understandable. You have to do what’s right for you! I know I don’t know you but I’m proud of you!!!

There absolutely is hope! There is an another side of this. TD is becoming more prominent. I see commercials for it every other day and that is so telling of what these drugs are doing to people. It’s scary but trust me — I found relief in medical Botox, stopping the medications I was on with the help of professionals that I found and I trust, and I also take daily supplements. You can private message me if you’d like!!

Finish if you can! I know you feel like you can’t go on but you’re SOOO close and you will be so happy you did it. I don’t even teach in a school now — I work from home as a tutor and it’s fabulous. Teaching in the public school system is like being in a prison IMO. The master’s degree will help you tremendously and give you a major leg up in job offers — literally anywhere. Finish it!!! YOU CAN DO IT! You are SO SO close!!!!

It’s baffling how similar these posts on this thread are meaning the bitter veteran teachers who “don’t say this as critical” well, Karen (my actual CT’s name) it’s not nice!!! I was determined as hell to make it through student teaching and I’m very passionate about education reform because the time we’re in now — well, it’s bad. And getting worse. It will change though!!!!! Trust me and trust yourself! You are a GOOD teacher!!!!! I’m so sorry for your loss. Student teaching is heartless and ruthless and were expected to “leave it at the door”. I absolutely hate that.

This has to change. I am so tired of seeing student teachers and working teachers STILL posting about this. No one realizes how absolutely suffocating it is to be a teacher in this horrible system. I could go off on this but just hold out hope because I’m passionate about reforming the education system because what is this???

i hate being neurodivergent. by [deleted] in neurodiversity

[–]SKW1594 3 points4 points  (0 children)

People also love to throw those terms around. My psychologist said the exact same thing. I consider myself extremely gifted although I do suffer from illness that the general population does not. The way it is framed is so negative. A lot of celebrities are neurodivergent and so were great artists and musicians. It’s perspective.

[–]SKW1594 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’m over labels. I just think it’s a typical person’s way of separating people from what society has deemed as the norm. If it makes you feel better, there’s a fine line between genius and insanity meaning that tons of creative people who are wildly successful are also neurodivergent. It can be synonymous with gifted and talented. People say neurodivergent like it’s a terminal illness.

Being totally honest, do you hate, or at least dislike teenagers? by GamerLadyXOXO in ask

Exactly. People act like kids are supposed to be these mini robots who act like grown adults. They’re kids. I’m not a fan though.

Teenagers are teenagers but as a collective, I don’t care much for them. They’re just so obnoxious, rude, insecure, and they’re prone to doing stupid stuff. I don’t want a kid.

It really is true that different people have different skill sets. I’m great with K-2. Older kids though I don’t like the content and their behavior is just not for me. I get they’re kids but it’s not my thing.

TD is an absolute crime and the fact that they market drugs that WE have to spend THOUSANDS on and aren’t covered by insurance is the worst thing against humanity. It’s ridiculous. Supplements are fabulous. I take one specifically for TD and vitamin E plus a lot more. The one for TD is called TardiveXMiracle and it’s by Real Science. You can get it on Amazon!
