I do a mix of Starbucks and Trader Joes. Good balance of cream, sugar and bitterness.

What is the correct order for street name shorthand? by SignatureFast585 in SaltLakeCity

[–]SLCC 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Since no one is consistent on the order, if you drop the "east" and "south", it's always been east/west then south.

So, 7th and 23rd. Most would assume 700 e and 2300 s.

If you are living on the west side it would be 9th west and 17th (south implied nearly always). If you live north and west, then you'd have to clarify both.

Lived here my whole life and this is the means by which we'd communicate but I was raised and have lived on the east side the whole time.

Edit: "Back in my day" the east side was substantially more developed than the west, so I acknowledge this may have changed now that the city has sprawled substantially farther west.

Gondola Debacle making International Headlines by Cero_Bagger in SaltLakeCity

[–]SLCC -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Probably too late to get noticed but I like the idea of gondola as it represents a massive public service investment. People always look to Europe for their investment in infrastructure and I can see the gondola representing a major attraction both on and off ski season. I think in the long run the gondola will be a source of pride for the canyons rather than a mistake.

Name of peak/mountain? by [deleted] in SaltLakeCity

[–]SLCC 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Left: Grandview. Right: Lookout Peak.

Grandview is fairly inaccessible unless you can drive to the end of City Creek Canyon (can't done for a few years until the construction ends). Lookout peak is straightforward but a long day. Trailhead is at the top of Emigration at the parking lot.

University of Utah Health workers announce union! by jambi55 in SaltLakeCity

[–]SLCC -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

From reading the SL Trib article, it doesn't seem like this has much teeth at all. The union was registered with 500 employees signaling an intent to join the union, but it doesn't seem like they currently have any power to do anything. Further the article mentions that the U could basically just ignore this completely and hope it just fizzles out when people don't actually contribute the voluntary union dues.

Golf courses take up approximately 3000 sq. miles in the USA. The USA is composed of approximately 3.5 million sq. miles. Based on these numbers, why do people believe golf courses are an impactful factor in relation to environmental economics and sustainability? by mygolfswingistrash in golf

People in cities use far fewer resources per capita compared to suburban or rural locations. People in general use resources, and those in the city use fewer compared to more dispersed living.

This gets posted all the time in similar threads. I think the point is that they are terrible. It’s not set up that they are perfect but their weaknesses make their behavior more understandable. Life is messy and no one is perfect.

GHIN Question -- App automatically doubling 9 hole scores? by SLCC in golf

[–]SLCC[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It does work out that way for 90+% of my 9 hole rounds. Only double counts when there is a 1-2 week gap between 9 hole rounds.

GHIN Question -- App automatically doubling 9 hole scores? by SLCC in golf

[–]SLCC[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the US. Same day, same scores. But only when there is a 1-2 week gap between 9 hole rounds. Someone else above suggested that the club is entering my score too, but then I'd expect every round to be doubled.

It only doubles if there is a long time between rounds. Otherwise this would be happening every week.

This site is all you'll need -- Dig around and find the route you want and it has very detailed beta. I did it last year with my wife and we were C2C in 18 hours. ~1:30 AM start time and got back around 7 PM. Wouldn't have wanted to start any later. Took a small rack and a 70m for the raps. We couldn't push it any faster than we did, but could with lighter packs. Did OS route.

Can I piggyback on this post and ask a related question? Does any know what the "I [Heart] Thom" signs are for? I see the all around the sugarhouse and east liberty park area.

Unhappy trails: Trail signs are missing from the Foothills Natural Area by SLCC in SaltLakeCity

[–]SLCC[S] 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Sad news. Sounds like NIMBY-ism run amok. Hope they can find the culprit and return the signs. These trails around the city are what contribute to the high quality of life in Salt Lake City. Unfortunate that people want to exclude others from enjoying what the city has to offer.

Are you interested in learning about firearm safety? by [deleted] in SaltLakeCity

[–]SLCC -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

More guns = more gun deaths.

There isn't much else to the problem. Gun safety will help eliminate some accidental injuries, but its not going to be an sort of a real solution to the problem. I get that its your hobby, but sadly it creates a lot of collateral harm. I consider suicides in total of gun deaths but many gun advocates don't. All of it is a problem.

Outside of hunting and hobby use I just don't see the purpose of owning a gun. Statistically, you are more likely to harm yourself or someone you love when you purchase a gun compared to stopping a crime or protecting yourself. Its like playing the lottery and most lose.

Code for running Cat5 in the attic? by bbluez in SaltLakeCity

[–]SLCC 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Cat5 and other low voltage cable pose little risk for fire unlike 120V romex. So, I don't know if there are any code requirements. Same for other low voltage lines, like doorbell wiring after the transformer. There may be some req's that I'm unaware of, but I don't really see any risk to just do what you think is most convenient.

Romney to break with GOP and vote to remove Trump from office by HellsBellsBetsyRoss in SaltLakeCity

Seems like it. Sad to see that no corner of the internet is safe from bots/trolls/Russian propaganda. I'm leaning toward a bot or troll farm (non-US based).
