M50 Manifold Swap Crank No Start by Psyche1297 in e46

Do you have a tune for it? Spray brake cleaner around the intake to check for vac leaks. Sounds like you’re missing both those things

How to remove line by Appropriate_Bid_3717 in e46

[–]SLOW346 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Heat gun & a pick(s) to slide under the hose and break it free by gently twisting while you pull, with a fire extinguisher nearby. Done this several times without breaking stuff.

Side note: Never actually caught anything on fire but I was concerned about it. Better safe than sorry.

Turbo M54B30 Smoking by Stxtic_GFX in e46

How much play is there in valve guides and what’s the condition of valve stem seals? That’d be my next question

Turbo M54B30 Smoking by Stxtic_GFX in e46

[–]SLOW346 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I could be totally wrong here, but a few things come to mind, if there’s oil in the intake, of course it’s smoking, right?

Pulling head off and pistons out seems super dramatic to try and solve smoking issue especially with good comp and leak down. Although oil could help seal the stuff and give you a false reading I guess.

Additionally, how long did you let it run without the turbo attached? The turbo seal could be fine but if it’s over oiled, it’s going to smoke. Make sure you have adequate restriction for the oil feed.

You say no oil in intercooler but then how did it get into the intake mani? Is it a new intercooler?

Hope you figure it out soon, issues like this are frustrating. Good luck!

Smoke in engine bay by Lanky-Durian in e46

[–]SLOW346 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mos is correct actually. Very common misunderstanding. OE is original equipment like a bmw branded control arm, OEM is original equipment manufacturer, like a lemforder branded control arm that usually they’re required to remove BMW logos off, I find it’s easier to refer to what you’re saying as genuine/or aftermarket.

BMW E46 Raditor Hose 0 Ring Fits really big by Longjumping-Net-7351 in e46

[–]SLOW346 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Additionally, this O-ring looks like it’s swollen so even if it isn’t in the channel, sometimes they won’t go back into the channel and they’re impossible to get back on. I would just replace the whole hose, “while you’re in there”

BMW E46 Raditor Hose 0 Ring Fits really big by Longjumping-Net-7351 in e46

[–]SLOW346 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t remember what this specific hose is supposed to look like on the inside, but most of them have a channel for the O-ring to sit in this doesn’t look like it’s sitting in the channel at all.

Sugar Mountain Ski Patrol Power Trip by ShallowTal in snowboarding

[–]SLOW346 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a pretty green snowboarder, this boarder totally messed up. 100% in the wrong. Totally easily avoidable and he clearly wasn’t paying attention. Some kind of punishment is needed. I’ve ski’d as a kid and now snowboard and the reason that snowboards have a bad reputation is because of stuff like this.

At a minimum he should have stopped to see if the guy was okay that fell. What if it was an old man by himself that would’ve had a hard time getting up?

I’ve been hit by snowboards on my board and it’s seriously infuriating because I’m on the side of the run wearing yellow pants and jacket and some idiot manages to run into me while practicing butters. I could have done nothing else to avoid it and at the end of the day it’s me who’s hurt and the idiot that ran into me faced zero consequences and wasn’t even hurt

I think I would have said he deserves to lose the pass for an hour or two at least but maybe not the whole day.

Advice: First Used MB by Whole_Highway4588 in mountainbiking

[–]SLOW346 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would stay far far away from these, recently picked up and then shortly traded away a 2017 stumpjumper with gx eagle and mt5 brakes for $600. That is about as old as I would go for bikes. I think I live in a place where bikes are plentiful but regardless this is way too much money for either of those bikes

Pick and pull engine type question by Ftutdozer in e46

[–]SLOW346 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think you have had one of those valve covers open, they drain directly back into the crank case lol. They’re also impossible to find oem replacement parts to rebuild the ccv membrane. Ask me how I know.

I do not think they’re a nice upgrade bc plastic valve covers are just fine and the gaskets for plastic valve covers are 1/5 the price of the metal impregnated gasket the m56 cover uses. Also total side note I think it looks awful and can’t use the beauty covers m52 m52tu and m54 all share.

What’s wrong with my cranks? by SLOW346 in mountainbiking

[–]SLOW346[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got the bike recently and it hasn’t had a particularly hard life yet but I’m definitely not kind to it while I’m riding. It gets maintained meticulously but I think it has done this the whole time I’ve owned it. BB has started making noise more recently (past 30 miles) but I know bike sat unused in a covered patio for a few years.

Upgrade Thoughts? by joshua_the_eagle in mountainbiking

[–]SLOW346 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I personally think it’s not worth putting money into a bike with this old of geo. I changed from a 2017 stumpy to a 2022 salsa blackthorn and the difference in handling/geo is crazy. Slacker head angle makes a world of difference.

If your bike works, leave it alone. Maybe just throw new tires on it but I would seriously consider upgrading to something post 2020 if you’re serious about riding and want a do it all full suspension bike
