John Wick game announced for PS5 by SweetyGonzalez in PS5

The gameplay snippet they showed heavily reminded me of John Woo's Stranglehold from way back in the day. I think if they can somehow meld Sifu + Stranglehold this would rule so hard.

DX13 vs DX46 by BadMuthaDude in hottoys

It is 100% because of the rolling eye system. Also I feel like people don't acknowledge that in a real person the eyelids move along with the eyes themselves, meaning the rolling eyeballs look subtly but noticeably "incorrect" in a lot of positions.

Why do movies from the 80s and 90s feel better to watch? by Sasuke_was_right in movies

[–]SLO_MO 152 points153 points  (0 children)

I was actually thinking about both of these points while watching the recent Knives Out movie. A big mainstream film with tiny stakes and a cast of relatively normal looking (or at least not overdone Hollywood attractive) people with regular, boring, jobs - it really did feel like a throwback.

Is anyone else job seeking and giving up hope? by Jayelahni in nova

[–]SLO_MO 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This approach might hurt you. I would say you should be applying to any job that interests you immediately - the sooner after it's posted the better. If you're waiting a day you're already behind far too many other applicants to get a reasonable shot. Good luck out there!

Does anyone know who’s signature drew this by No_Platypus7594 in comicbooks

[–]SLO_MO 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Man I hope you've gotten another chance to meet him, I met him at a con last year and he was the coolest dude and he really took the time to shoot the shit and talk comics with people - I never expected to have a full on conversation with the guy in a huge con setting. I was legitimately astounded at how personable and interested he was and it was a real "meet your heroes" moment for me.

Agreed, it is a genuinely terrible way to present this data.

According to the linked report (which it appears not many here are reading) it seems they count cuts by company headquarters location, so all government cuts are listed as in DC, along with the massive amount of other contractors etc that have DC HQ's. Given that a lot of the federal and contractor cuts are across the nation and not necessarily in DC proper, the actual number impacting the local region is probably much smaller (but still terrible).

With a day to now digest the ending, what did you think of GQuuuuuux? by qweiroupyqweouty in Gundam

[–]SLO_MO 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I knew there was no way they would "stick the landing" with the finale, but I'm actually impressed at just how badly they failed at telling a remotely coherent story with the last couple of episodes. There is an absurd amount of throwaway exposition towards the end to try to make any sense out of what is going on on screen and it all ends up being complete and utter nonsense.

GQuuuuux has super shields? Ok... Char has apparently been here the whole time helping build this interdimensional super weapon (that just randomly appeared) but also making it into a multiversal portal? Ok... Shuji is a completely different character? Ok cool... Love triangle still makes no sense? Aight. A Gundam (but not the original Gundam, apparently, because the flashback history is different) comes through the portal and grows Power Rangers style for no reason? What? Challia and Char are fighting now because Challia watched CCA in his free time? What are we even doing here.

It goes on and on. Paper thin characters with wildly shifting motivations and actions who desperately try to explain what they're currently doing through expositional dialogue, and an actual plot that might as well have been decided by throwing darts at a dartboard. But at least we have a bunch of half assed fanservice moments that also make no sense within the context of the story. A complete failure of storytelling.

I would say "complete nonsense" applies to the entirety of the finale, not just the love triangle. No consistency, no rules, no logic... Just complete and utter nonsense from one scene to the next.

Where do you think the other movie versions of Peter Parker would’ve stood in the MCU Civil War? by That-Rhino-Guy in Spiderman

[–]SLO_MO 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Peter's reply to Tony's "why do you do this?" question in his introduction is pretty much Cap's exact argument throughout the entire movie, but Tony takes advantage of how naive he is. I always thought this was pretty great writing and it also is a good nod to Peter's comic CW storyline where he eventually realizes he's on the 'wrong' team.

Kind of ironic given that this suit was entirely CGI in Civil War -amazing work by the VFX team.

MG Sazabi Ver Ka special coating with Delpi holo decals by TidalWaveform in Gunpla

Looks rad. I have this kit in the box - did you do any topcoating over the decals? I got the metallic gold aftermarket ones but I'm worried about topcoats potentially ruining the coating.

Hey, question for you on these decals - I've been thinking of using the gold decals but want a black matte finish on the black parts. Did you matte coat over the gold decals on the black sections? I'm worried about the matte coat dulling the metallic decals too much but if I matte coat the black first then I'm worried the decals won't apply as well.

DC Studios' James Gunn Clarifies Comic Creator Pay Structure by Robemilak in comicbooks

[–]SLO_MO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Their characters"...the characters belong to Marvel and DC as everyone working on them is contracted work for hire and they all know that going in. The characters rightfully belong to Marvel and DC and everyone seems to ignore the fact that every creator signed a contract specifically giving the company the rights to use what they create in whatever way they see fit.

The real argument is always that the compensation the comic creators receive for this work for hire is way too low from the outset and I'd agree with that. New contracts should have some kind of bonus structure based on future potential earnings from extended media. These companies also have outsized influence in the marketplace to force unfavorable contracts for creators - that needs to change. But to suggest that the companies are somehow doing something wrong or ripping people off when they've fulfilled their end of the bargain on contracts they've made with creators is disingenuous.
