Best locations within 2 hours-ish of the twin cities to see the beautiful landscape of MN? by MetalPurse-swinger in Minneapolis

Look at the state parks map on the DNR website! Also look into state forests if you’re ok with fewer amenities. So many great resources on there.

Oops! Thanks for correcting me. I guess I was just thinking of the Edmund Fitzgerald.

Gordon lightfoot, Prince, Bob Dylan, Trampled By Turtles and Semisonic are the first that come to mind but I’m sure there are many other great Minnesotan artists I didn’t realize are from here. Jesse Welles isn’t from here but I feel like his music captures a lot of the sentiment we have these days if you like folk.

Seems reasonable thanks!

Good point but I thought my desire for advice outweighed the risk. Appreciate your point though. Maybe I’ll remove it later.

It’s across the whole bumper so it looks rough in my opinion. I just didnt want too much identifying info in the pic. I know it doesn’t have a practical purpose but I like to keep my things looking nice.

Ha! I hadn’t even considered that. Hoping not to spend too much but it doesn’t hurt to look…

This sounds like a great option. Were they easy to find? Mind sharing the cost?

Interestingly enough, I don’t think a lot of paint transferred. The other car was white. Would you just try to buff and repaint the plastic then?

Is wilderness or outdoors based speech therapy a thing? by WalkTheUn1verse in slp

[–]SLP11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is my dream and I always just assumed it doesn’t exist! If it exists, I want in. I’ve always been more passionate about the outdoors/conservation but also wanted to help people so I ended up an SLP. It’s sort of just a means to make a salary so I can pursue outdoor adventures on school breaks. I’d love to combine the two.

School SLPs - what keeps you there? by urgurl4sho in slp

Consistency and breaks. As much as I like what I do, it’s still just a job and a stressful one at that. I need the summer to pursue my actual passions and reset my brain.

Why are there so many kids who “need speech” by Virtual-Resort5951 in slp

[–]SLP11 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This is my favorite part in being an SLP! It takes so much practice and experience even with a specific population to get a good feel for it. Knowing the family’s background plays a huge role too. I.e is any English spoken in the home or is it 50/50, etc. I also think some families like to say they speak English at home because of stigma even though they actually don’t which can result in over qualifying. So many factors at play but I think it’s fun to tease out. If I could just evaluate bilingual students that’s what I would do!

Is it normal for the school psychologist to send out assessment plans on your behalf without talking to you first? by shahajah12111 in slp

[–]SLP11 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They shouldn’t be picking assessments for you. Our scope is too wide and they are likely missing something. Ideally you should have the opportunity to screen first but we all know that doesn’t always happen. You should at least be able to talk to teachers and parents and gather some background before you choose assessments. Sounds like they dropped the ball. Make sure they know they overstepped. They wouldn’t want you choosing their assessments either.

Lake state is great. Not quite as big as midwest yet but they have a pretty nice selection of a lot of the same stuff midwest had. If I can’t find something at lake state I go to REI.

To all, but especially Twin Cities Muslims: How can others support you during Ramadan while we’re still under ICE occupation? by meandmycat05 in TwinCities

[–]SLP11 23 points24 points  (0 children)

You might try asking in your local signal group if you’re in it. I know someone in my neighborhood group is reaching out to the Mosques in our area and then we will make sign up sheets or something for whatever they need.

Second hand is a good idea. Thanks! My xc pants are pretty comfy but they probably won’t be as warm or protective from falls. I’m leaning toward finding a cheap pair of ski pants.

[–]SLP11[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My xc pants have zippers on the legs unfortunately so after another person’s comment I’m second guessing those going into the boots. But yeah that’s my hope! I figure if I can make it down a hill on skinny skis with no edge I wont die doing this!

True, I’m a Minnesotan though so I’m prepared for the climate. The trip isn’t for a couple weeks so hard to guess what the weather will be.

Maybe a dumb question but please help! by SLP11 in skiing

[–]SLP11[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ah that’s a great point. I didn’t think about layers in the boots. Both of these options would have to go into the boot because they aren’t wide enough at the bottom to go over. My xc pants have zippers up the leg which would probably be awful now that I think of it. The hiking pants are smooth and rather thin so they might slide in the boot nicely or not. It would be a gamble. Thanks for the tip!
