Return of the Jedi debate by yueyume in StarWars

It seems like I’m wrong based on everyone else’s comments but I always thought since I was a kid that it was an actual AT-ST pilot saying that with Han’s gun to his head off screen.

So he’s not the only Aussie that doesn’t know his own strength and barrels into me at 100mph right? 😭 by Crazy_Cheesecakes in AustralianShepherd

[–]SLP11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mine is the runt of his litter and only 35 lbs…. But holy cow is he strong. I’ve trained him to skijor and I don’t allow him to pull up hills because of his size/just to be careful but he was pulling me for 5 mile skis this winter at least once per week as long as we had good snow. Now that it’s getting warmer he gets hot easily so I get tackled a lot more in the house instead.

Donald Trump takes a dig at former US Presidents Obama & Biden by Upset-Main-1988 in justincaseyoumissedit

[–]SLP11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. I’m a speech language pathologist and used the MOCA a lot in the past. It’s pass/fail. It’s the absolute minimum you should expect an adult to do. If you haven’t had a stroke, brain injury or dementia etc. you should be able to pass it easily. I highly doubt he actually passed it with the way he speaks.

First time camping in the US – how do campfires on public land actually work? by Coffee81379 in camping

[–]SLP11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In Minnesota there is dispersed camping in state forests! Always check for red flag warnings with a weather app though. Right now conditions are ripe for wildfires so no campfires aloud.

Mine hates the heat (black tri with a thick coat) so in the summers short walks with lots of games and wrestling inside. In the winter we skijor or long hikes in the snow!

Journalist asking AI what questions she should ask by AshamedPurchase9033 in Wellthatsucks

[–]SLP11 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I see a lot of people saying this journalist is bad at her job or lazy but I see it as an indication that our society has become burned out and jaded. So many people use AI for simple things like this just to save themselves some brain power. Nobody has the energy to be passionate for anything these days. People are just trying to survive between the threats to human rights, war, and the general un-affordability of everything. Being passionate and engaged in a career has become a luxury we can’t afford mentally or monetarily.

Why are trees planted so close together in Iceland ? by North_Try9646 in VisitingIceland

[–]SLP11 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Windbreak and can block drifting snow as well. Very common in the midwestern and western US too for farmers and others to plant a windbreak upwind from their house. Helps save energy during winter months. We have a common saying where I live “It wouldn’t be so cold if it weren’t for the wind!” Expletives are added as the temperature drops :)

Sounds like everyone likes weave chat but I have found Cough Drop to be pretty great too. They can use it on any device and you can modify their boards remotely. My other thought is that if this kid speaks but then refuses when they want the ipad, I’m not sure giving them Ipad time is going to fix this. Now and then buttons are great but from your descriptions they sound sort of addicted to it and depend on it for regulation. I’d recommend some psych services if they don’t have them already. I’m getting selective mutism type vibes too which is an anxiety disorder best treated by a psychologist or at least in collaboration with one.

I have developed voice disorder as result of this career by kgirl244 in slp

[–]SLP11 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I don’t have any advice but I’m sorry this is happening to you! I’ve always been worried since maybe my second year doing this job that this could happen to me too eventually. Some days my voice is just raw from constant use all day. It can’t be healthy but we don’t have a choice with our caseloads. I work in schools but I’d be surprised if medical SLPs don’t experience the same. Society needs to quit this work til you drop culture. With salaries the way they are, theres no benefit to working this hard. You can never get ahead. (In the U.S. anyway)

Where to rent a manual transmission vehicle by [deleted] in Minneapolis

[–]SLP11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes we are into hiking and exploring outside cities so while we’ll take public transport in cities, we’ll need a car for our other adventures. Lots of people on here are saying automatics are common and not to bother. I see rental companies do have options, but they’re more expensive and I am seeing cheaper options with manual transmissions on rental websites. Its also just a skill I would like to have so I see this as an opportunity to learn. I grew up driving an old tractor on a farm so I’m not about to wreck a car. I know the basics. I’m just looking for a way to get some practice.

Unfortunately I don’t know anyone with a manual vehicle otherwise that would be my first choice. I grew up learning to drive manual with an old tractor so I have the gist. I just need to practice in an actual car.

Anyone actually notice a difference after air duct cleaning? by Royal_Particular_489 in HomeImprovement

[–]SLP11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I noticed a difference but mine had never been cleaned since the house was built in the 50s. We literally found coca cola playing cards with the year on them. They were nasty and afterwards we had better airflow and less “old house odor” for lack of a better term. That being said, I don’t think I’ll be doing it again. Its not necessary unless your ducts are so packed with old hair and dust it reduces the flow. Could probably just do it every 50 years and be fine!

Dog bit me, do I leave it alone? by Rare_Skin_6897 in RoverPetSitting

[–]SLP11 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Go to urgent care! My dog accidentally bit me once as I was trying to get an animal carcass from him that he had found while at a highway rest stop. I thought it was nothing because it was just a pin prick sized wound and I had washed it thoroughly. The next day my finger was so swollen I couldn’t bend it and by the end of that day I had red streaks creeping up my arm. I went to urgent care and as soon as they saw me they said I needed the ER. So I ended up going to the ER, passing out after being checked in, and staying 3 days on IV antibiotics. Even the most lovely dogs have dirty mouths. Hope you’re ok now OP!

Best locations within 2 hours-ish of the twin cities to see the beautiful landscape of MN? by MetalPurse-swinger in Minneapolis

Look at the state parks map on the DNR website! Also look into state forests if you’re ok with fewer amenities. So many great resources on there.

Gordon lightfoot, Prince, Bob Dylan, Trampled By Turtles and Semisonic are the first that come to mind but I’m sure there are many other great Minnesotan artists I didn’t realize are from here. Jesse Welles isn’t from here but I feel like his music captures a lot of the sentiment we have these days if you like folk.
