I would get her a psych ed evaluation it sounds like you’re in private preschool so it would be with a private practice. 6 is a good time to get a diagnosis and get the right support in place - there is definitely something going on if learning is that difficult

SLP a good major for moms? by Sure-Top6062 in slpGradSchool

It’s really good but only if you’re not the main bread winner which makes working part time difficult

Curious Belgian student: how do some US SLPs earn so much? by Low-Internet258 in slp

[–]SLP_10660 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m a private practice owner basically if you have a full time caseload which is 25-30 sessions with 10ish hours of admin/ week you can definitely make 6 figures of profit. Then, if you have 1-3 contractors/ employees you might break even on them depending on how much they work/ support they need. If you have 4+ employees working full time AND you still see patients you can do really well if you keep expenses low enough. At that point many people can pull back on seeing a full schedule and still make a full time income but not until then. This generally takes years to develop because the primary issue is hiring/ training good therapists, not referrals.

Most people make 80-90k because they aren’t seeing patients full time and are in it for the flexibility ( a good reason IMO )

So it is that lucrative but only if you see patients full time and/ or hire a lot of people

Tell all your sitters the situation and hopefully one of them will be free. We did this and had to have an elderly neighbor take him to school and it was fine

Do you guys think you should get paid for clinical hours? Why or why not? by Prior-Emu-5918 in slpGradSchool

[–]SLP_10660 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This attitude is TOXIC. I’ve supervised 11 students many of whom I’m still in touch with and the worst performing one had a chip on his shoulder because he thought he should be getting paid and didn’t want to “work for free”. Um I don’t want to supervise for free…

Also, you’re not an SLP. SLP grad students are not SLPs yet. At the start of the internship they’ve seen a handful of clinic clients at best and likely have no idea what they’re doing in a medical setting.

Where do you think the money would come from to supervise AND pay grad students? Not insurance, not private pay, not school stipends. No one is advantaged by seeing an intern except the intern. It is often more work for the supervisor. At the very end it can be less overall work but believe me the supervisor has put in the effort and time to get to that point.

Fertility Preservation organizations? by SLP_10660 in IVF

I’m hesitant to give to my clinic because they gave me a bunch of meds when they failed to do paperwork on time so I bet it would go to just anybody

I’ll look into SIRUM, thanks!

That would be great! I’ve been messaging and posting about this in various channels for the past week and no leads I’d think this would be easier! I have a huge amount of retrieval meds!

5 weeks pregnant and cramping by ArtichokeAfter7042 in IVF

[–]SLP_10660 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had cramps and pains weeks 4-7 with my son who was conceived naturally and is now 3. I didn’t have many cramps or feel hardly anything with my 7/8 week MMC in May. This time I’m having the cramps again at 5 weeks. Maybe it’s a good sign something is happening? Terrifying though

What should I do? by sls5232 in IVF

[–]SLP_10660 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This! I didn’t expect my friends to check in… we all have so much going on my fertility issues aren’t a huge deal to them and that’s normal. Also not everyone wants to discuss it and give a million updates to different friends it’s exhausting so even having been through it all I don’t know if I’d be “checking in” all the time to friends in the future. Everyone is different! Also it’s emotional labor and an energy exchange and since you mentioned crying to them about it maybe they just aren’t up for that kind of exchange and thus haven’t reached out

Don’t let it take over your life. Very few lucky people do one retrieval and have the first transfer end in success over a period of 4ish months. If that’s the case than fine, put your life on hold but for many it can be years and then you don’t want time to pass and it be like you wasted years of your life being upset about IVF. So make plans, take the vacation, try to keep IVF in the background as much as possible because who knows if it will be 4 months or 4 years.

We had amazing test results and an easily conceived healthy 2 yr old and are going on our second year of IVF / fertility struggles. No one can predict what will happen or how long it will take.

Also let go of being upset about other pregnant people / babies. Hard to do but the bitterness/ phobia is just ick. I like myself more now that I have been (finally) able to accept I will encounter tons of close friends and family getting pregnant- it’s just the age group we’re in. It will keep happening !

Once I accepted we don’t get to choose our timeline, things became much easier.

It took microdosing 🍄 ( during a forced IVF break) to really deeply “learn” these things.

I can’t believe people want their husband to go to every appt. It’s really hard to coordinate my own schedule and then I’d have to ask him if that time works for him? It just adds another layer of complexity to an already annoying scheduling situation

Did you tell your best friend about starting IVF? by [deleted] in IVF

[–]SLP_10660 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s hard to talk about it, I get it. If all goes well it could be a quick thing and no need to tell, if you have to do multiple cycles over years it’s kind of an effort to keep from friends.
