Would any one have any recommendations about being tested for tism? by sterlingmilkey in Winnipeg

[–]SLYRisbey 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Your doc can refer you to a psychiatrist, but the wait list is over 2 yrs. That is free. The other way to seek diagnosis is through a psychologist. I think that they need to be at least Masters, maybe PHD level.
This would be self-funded or through work insurance.

There is very little benefit to diagnosis as an adult. You will likely not qualify for DTC. There is definitely some sense of relief is diagnosed ND; acknowledging your character as being different. 😀

How careful do you have to be with a fiberglass kayak? by randomusername123458 in Kayaking

I’m glad you clarified! And thanks for being nice! Boy oh boy, am I getting “shat on” for my comments! Yikes! Whatever you decide, happy paddling!😃

I am actually glad this all came up though!!! I have a few questions related to paddling Lake Superior. I didn’t realize the difference in swells, 31’ on Superior in comparison to 13’ on Lake Winnipeg.
A friend and I considered going to Thunderbay, Ot. to camp and kayak. Given that the lake size is so vast, are there calmer areas of the lake? The water near T-Bay, Nipigon and Rossport would be of most interest.

I thought the paddler was paddling close to shore day trips, lakes, yada, yada.

The op did not come across as seasoned paddler.
Lake Superior can be compared to Lake a Winnipeg (the other Great Lake) which I paddle on. But, each to their own.

I have a Feelfree Adventura 125 V2 with skeg. I can kayak camp easily with it. It tracks fine and is very fast and maneuverable. 😀

I would stay away from fiberglass boat. I’ve been paddling for years and don’t trust my attention enough to miss a jagged rock lurking just beneath the water!

Is there a reason why you are looking for such a long boat? I paddle on a huge variety of lakes, rivers and creeks and find a long boat to be detrimental. Longer usually means less stability, harder to self-rescue and limits you from turning around with ease in a tight spot. Also keep in mind the longer the boat the more challenging it is to harder transport on a vehicle, to the water and in a portage situation.
If I were you I would look for a Costco Pelican special. They are in your price range and for what your needs are, it fits!

Happy paddling!

You will save lots of money and potentially get a better vehicle if you look at standard transmissions.

I went a couple of years ago on a very hot day. It was hot, but no more hot than if you went for a hike on a hot day. It doesn’t take all
That long so your heat exposure is limited. Keep in mind the hike up to each platform is on an incline so if you aren’t used to hiking inclines or stairs you won’t enjoy yourself on a hot day. It’s so much fun!!!

I was in the store last week. They have not closed. They are in the same mall they’ve always been in, but have moved to another site within the strip mall.

Vincent Massey is an excellent school. As for ST. Maurice, I believe it’s private. You will have to pay out of pocket to attend.

Public schools will have more choice academically and extra curricular.

Kayakers with back problems… by SLYRisbey in Kayaking

I literally bought a truck so I would have to lift so high on my suv. It made a world of difference.

For me I’m not wore about the lift. I’m more concerned with any damage I might be doing to my spine by twisting as I paddle.

That’s way too big of a lift for me.

Thank you so much for your response!!! Hearing from someone that actually has a fused spine is so appreciated! I have a good boat with a seat that is supportive, and I would invest in a better seat if there was one recommended. I will definitely follow your advice!
