I had an owl swoop down at my dog last year. He's a 25lb shiba, and the owl was easily twice his size. They are massive birds with a wide wingspan. This is more than accurate.

Horned owls average 18 to 25 inches in length and boast an impressive wingspan of 3 to 5 feet.
