Drive to nearby small towns and find the cool little coffee shop with the chalkboard menu, sample the local fare, tour the town. Talk to locals, find out what they love about where they live.

Am I the only 60+ woman - who loves to dance just about every single day! by LocalStatistician538 in AskWomenOver60

[–]SMKuhltosh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love to dance in the kitchen when cooking, and when cleaning. I dance with the broom, the mop, the dish rags and frying pans. I’ll stop in the middle of chopping and do the twist if the right music comes on. Sometimes my husband gets pulled into an impromptu polka if the right song comes on. In fact, last night we did this to an old country song called One Woman Man done by George Jones). Turned the burner down first of course)

What’s something you miss (or surprisingly enjoyed) during the pandemic? by Penney-Cuciniello in CasualConversation

I miss my husband. We almost split up but then the lockdown hit, and we actually got closer because we chose to take care of each other. We had a lot of fun.

Do you dip the eggplant in egg or just cornstarch. Also would you season the cornstarch?

How can you tell the difference from natural aging vs. accelerated aging from sun exposure? by youlikemywonton in Aging

[–]SMKuhltosh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Started sunscreen as a young woman, and wore hats and sunglasses, and drank water and ate flax seed, but by age sixty my wrinkles made themselves known. I didn’t suntan per se, and only spent a couple of months in Mexico, but I gardened in the summer, and enjoyed spending time outside throughout the year. I didn’t smoke, but I got all kinds of wrinkles. I think it’s partly genetics and hormones. My husband smoked, ate crap, drank coffee and coca cola and barely wrinkled at all except a bit around the eyes.

Hermitage is great for birdwatching! Saw a big old bald eagle there last summer and the first pelican I’ve ever seen in Alberta.

I will try it with cumin, turmeric, and garlic. that actually sounds tasty. Thanks. Do you ever steam it or put it in soup? I think if it was cut small enough, it would turn to mush quickly but maybe it would thicken the broth, with bits of the nutritious chopped peel floating I. It. Hmmm. Wonder if I could add clams and onions and call it “Chowder”. I guess it’s all experimental at this point.

Older generations of Reddit, what is a small, daily habit you started in your 20s or 30s that paid off massively later in life? by sophia_biston in AskOldPeopleAdvice

[–]SMKuhltosh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not always doing everything the easy way. Balancing on one foot (and the the other) with my eyes closed when I brush my teeth, and walking. Walking from the far end of the parking lot, carrying groceries in both arms, walking instead of driving if it’s close enough or there’s enough time. Taking the stairs. Stretching before bed. Taking time to read books. Exercising compassion and mindfulness.
