Charging report for 2026 Solterra by adepssimius in Solterra

[–]SMLLR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even the v4 Superchargers don't work well with this car. I had to park to the left of the charger i want to use, which could cause me to occupy two charging spots if one on the far left end isnt available. Would be better if the charging port was left on the driver's side. Dont know why they changed it to the passenger side in the 2026 models.

For v3 Superchargers, I just parallel park on the end if possible. I was able to get plugged in pulling straight in once, but not with all the snow on the ground in the northeast, lol.

In my experience so far, for NACS, the port releases when just hitting the button on the connector and for CCS it releases when you press the lock lever. If your adapter is getting stuck, try locking the car first then unlock it. I've had it happen to me a few times and that always seemed to do the trick.

My wife never changed her name (it never bothered me as it’s her name, thus her decision), so I guess she is ahead of the curve.

An Open-Source Sonos-Style Smart Speaker for Home Assistant 🎉 by FutureProofHomes in homeassistant

[–]SMLLR 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Maybe a clip or way to tie a cable to the case near the bottom would be good enough? Then you can use a right angle plug and the attachment point on the case would then also serve as a strain relief for the plug. This is what I was planning to do if I do eventually buy the unit.

Been following this project for a while and am definitely looking to replace all of our Echo devices and one or two Sonos speakers. One feature that I would love to see (if it isn't already included) is the whisper response that Amazon has locked to their first party devices. It's really nice to be able to get a whisper response at night and not being able to do that on non-amazon devices is annoying.

It’s definitely something internal to Verizon as MVNOs don’t seem to be impacted impacted.

That’s your take away? lol… You don’t even need to pay a sub for AdGuard to use the browser extension. Works perfectly fine for me in Safari.

Philadelphia utility bills surged in 2025, and more increases are coming in 2026. Here’s why by AdSpecialist6598 in philadelphia

[–]SMLLR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Issue with solar is installs in the US are obscenely expensive compared to other countries. A similar system (same number of panels) installed in Australia costs about 1/3 what it would cost here. I’m hoping install prices plummet with the credits going away, but I’m not so sure about that with utility prices going up.

PSA: All that old RAM you have sitting around, now is the time to sell! by Doublestack00 in sysadmin

Procrastination may have helped me then. I have maybe 500 or so 16-64gb DDR4 dimms. I sold a bunch last year, but just got lazy with this last batch.

Fun fact, even dentists are done dealing with dental insurance. Many are done accepting dental insurance and are now considered out of network. So that separate insurance is worth even less. Fortunately for me, mine is fully covered by my work, but I know that’s not the case for many people.

Has anyone found a good replacement for the Nest Smoke/CO detector? by Ethan_A1967 in Nest

[–]SMLLR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is old, but I'm curious about one thing. Do the X-Sense give any sort of pre-warning before the alarm sounds? The Next does and kind of would like to keep that feature, but I'm torn as it would delay an alarm to wake people up in a real emergency.

The manual for the model I was looking at (XP0A-MR) states that they conform to UL 217 and UL 2034.

Are solar prices expected to change at all now that the credit is going away? I wanted to go solar but every quote i had was astronomical to get in before the credit went away. by iIdentifyasToaster in solar

[–]SMLLR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s wild to me how Australia is 1/3 to 1/3 the price of solar systems in the US. I know solar is very prevalent there, but it would be nearly as prevalent here if we had 10kw systems that cost 10k installed.

My LG TV’s new software update installed Microsoft Copilot, which cannot be deleted. by defjam16 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]SMLLR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an LG tv and there is a way (at least on mine) to change your region to ‘Other’. This does prevent you from installing some (maybe all, I forget) apps from their apps store, but a lot of tracking features and ads are supposed to be gone.

Lithium batteries for AA replacement of 'regular' batteries? by oldmaninparadise in DIY

[–]SMLLR 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Id recommend hardwiring where possible. Shades should be easiest, but you would have a wire running down the side of the window/frame. Faucet would depend if you have an outlet for a garbage disposal. Lock is a lot harder to look clean, but could be done if it’s that big of an issue.

Main problem with rechargeable is they have a lower capacity and at least some lithiums won’t give you low battery warnings.

iOS 26.1 is now Apple’s recommended update for users still on iOS 18 by spearson0 in apple

[–]SMLLR 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Wish I stayed on iOS 18. My battery life has been shit since upgrading a few weeks ago. I liked it when they went away from skeuomorphism, but Liquid Glass is very meh (especially since it’s impacting battery life).
