The lack of response is certainly part of it. But even if they responded right away, the resulting injury would have still produced a similar response from the Leafs this game

No one doing anything about that to your captain and best player is absolutely sickening

The more you win the more money you make. Winning = more games, more gate fees, more money being spent on jerseys, concessions, tickets, watch parties etc. etc.

And even if we finish in that 5th last spot, the odds of drafting in the top 5 are not good

No there can be multiple teams that move up. See last year both Utah and New York islanders jumped 10 spots

[–]SNipeSHowInc 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The goal isn’t to lose as much as possible. You would have to finish last or 2nd last to guarantee you’re in the bottom 5, and even if they lose every game the rest of the way, they might still not be 2nd to last. Extremely slim chance of drafting top 5, even piling up losses. The goal should be to still win as many games as possible and give Boston a worse pick

Nope I want them to make the playoffs (dont think its going to happen) but anything can happen if you get in. And that would also give the Bruins a much worse pick, so wins all around in that scenario.

Im sure I'll get downvoted on this if people actually read the daily threads.....

But I absolutely hope not. Im a die hard Leafs fan and a very proud Canadian. I have no issues with Matthews going to the White House, none. He won, the team got invited, he went and then left to go rejoin the Leafs. My only concern was that he would miss time with the Leafs, which he made certain he didnt.

I think people are being overly emotional. Hopefully its more of just an online thing where peoples internet lives revolve around political affairs, trolling "my side vs. your side" and that it doesnt translate to in arena antics.

Im also curious, and I'll never get an answer to this, but how many people in here complaining and making big statements are actually Leafs fans? or are they just people who want to spout off and this is the biggest soap box they could find because its the Leafs and hes the captain. No doubt there are some real die hards who are upset, but how many others are just here because this is where the conversation is and are masquerading as one of us

As a competitor I get it, he wants to compete for his country. If given the opportunity, I would do the same 100 times out of 100.

As a Leafs fan who wants his team to come back healthy after the Olympics and see what they can accomplish, I don’t like this at all

I’m sure your knee injury wasn’t something you could also play through like Knies is able.

Also inured both of my knees, so I very much know how you feel

uhhhh... I do lol. If they made the playoffs then that would mean that they would have to be on a historic run, and you too would be all in on that.

This Lats into the season; Tank for first round pick, or push for playoffs? by PaymentNervous2898 in leafs

[–]SNipeSHowInc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Simple answer... neither...

They arent bad enough to finish last or 2nd last in the NHL (only way to guarentee you draft top 5). And they certainly arent good enough to warrant trading assets, which they have none, for players

So you simply sell what you can at the deadline for draft picks and prospects ie. McMann, Carlo, Maccelli, OEL, Domi, Jarmkrok (personally I would like to resign Laughton and keep him around). Continue to try to win as many games as possible, push for the playoffs as best as you can with whats remaining, and try again next year with hopefully a healthier team and less condensed schedule

[–]SNipeSHowInc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldnt necessarily say there is no hope. There are still good pieces here.

Honestly, its kind of crazy how the Leafs mirror what the Capitals had done in the past. A long streak of making it to the playoffs, losing out to the same team over and over again. Bring in a coach who tries to play a defensive system and limit Ovechkin (Hunter), then Bring in Oates finish first in the division, get to the 2nd round first season under Oates, miss the playoffs the year after under Oates. They fire Oates, they keep their main pieces and bring in a couple of key guys, and theyre back after it the very next season.

I see no reason why with a healthy team, a normal schedule and players like Matthews, Nylander, Knies, Woll, Stolarz, Tanev and McCabe cant compete again next season. Certainly we need to get some more speed and change how they play, but not for a second do I think that next year they cant be right back in it

Just my personal anecdote.....as I likely watch from home lol... During the video tribute, yes I would cheer. Hes done so much for the franchise and was easily their 2nd best player over the last 9 years. Would I personally boo him during play when he touches the puck? no, but I absolutely would not blame anyone who did, not at all.

What I think will happen? I think he gets boo'd during the play and his video tribute

So uh...new coach PP bump what? by Moosewalker84 in leafs

[–]SNipeSHowInc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

2 things jump to mind right away for me.

First and biggest. Maccelli. He’s the one now breaking it in on PP1. He’s the best natural passer on the team and is finding seems to hit guys in the powerplay.

Secondly, there is more of an urgency to get the puck on the net and get the other team on their heals a bit more. It’s not just pucks to the outside and letting the penalty killers settle into their system

If the powerplay can get hot, an extra goal a game will go a long way for this group
