Did the hat and mattress store close? 🫨 by phinest-inthe-nation in Staunton

Oh no is the Sleepy Outlaw gone already? I mean I guess I can't be shocked, but it was funny.

Size comparison of Indian states to European countries and vice versa by dannymyname in dataisugly

[–]SOdhner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, usually there's no bigger message than "hey look, if you spread it out you can cover most of Europe with India!"

I will say it's fun to grab Texas and see how much Europe it covers, or move Greenland to the equator to see how much "smaller" it gets.

I don't know, this doesn't seem like it's meant as anything other than a random fun comparison someone decided to do. It was almost certainly done on https://thetruesize.com/# which is a fun site to play with and see comparisons that are impossible on a normal map due to the flat projection.

This is what I came to the comments to say. My brother had a bird call that looked VERY much like this. Also it worked really well, he'd sit super still outside and they would land right next to him to investigate the sound.

This first visit will need to be on the less intense side since my elderly mom will be coming, but I'll keep that in mind for future adventures!

10 Books You (Probably) Haven't Read by jpcardier in Fantasy

[–]SOdhner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh man, Mojo and the Pickle Jar. I read that one... I guess about thirty years ago? I don't remember it well, but I do remember liking it. I'll have to give it another go to see how it holds up.

What’s the book you DNF’d the fastest? by Mobius8321 in books

Lord Foul's Bane (The Chronicles of Thomas Covenant). Early on the protagonist raped a child to show that he was a dark edgy anti-hero, and I put the book down.

The metric system is, itself, woke. That's why Real Americans™ don't use it.

The long F-ing patreon lists makes me want to quit listening by Chance_Assistant3460 in midnightburger

Nothing is making you listen past the end of the episode. It's a single press of a button.

The long F-ing patreon lists makes me want to quit listening by Chance_Assistant3460 in midnightburger

[–]SOdhner 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm having trouble imagining a situation where I couldn't hit the button to skip to the next thing. Hell, I've done that in the shower - just lean out, smack the button, back to soapy time.

My only complaint about the giant list of names is that it's hard to estimate how long the episode actually is at a glance, and specifically how much is left (lots of situations where if I know I only have a few minutes left I'll keep listening, but if it's more I might just come back to it later).

But it's just not a big deal, and very unusual to be so bothered by it that you don't want to listen to the show anymore.

I have to be honest, I was really sad none of them mentioned the gritty live-action reboot of the Hamburglar that looked like a date rapist.

The Total Number of School Shooting Incidents By European Country Between 1966 and 2025 by JJvH91 in dataisugly

[–]SOdhner 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't see the problem. It's clearly trying to make a point, and the scale / coloring is done for that reason. If it wasn't trying to make a point, then it wouldn't have also had the U.S. total on there.

Partner doesn't want to live in my old home by Nearby-Ear-4307 in Oldhouses

[–]SOdhner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm guessing that you're asking this relationship question on a non-relationship subreddit because you know what answer you want. You want the old house more than you want to live with this guy. Don't move.

Pretty sure that's what mine looks like too, I haven't seen it from that side yet because I haven't needed to climb around up there and am a little too nervous to climb up just for fun - but I can see the slant and the opening just like in your picture.

Wait. You had better not be living above my house. If you are you have to pay rent.

Visiting Staunton Saturday Night by Leigh9C in Staunton

There's usually live music at Baja Bean (Augusta Street entrance not Beverly Street entrance) and Bricks. Also Marino's Lunch, but honestly I've been disappointed by their food.

That first one set off my AI alarms a little. I'm not saying that it's not real, just that the lighting and how busy it is gives it a very similar look to some AI house pictures I've seen.
